The Phoenix Suns (23-24, 16-7 Home) will try to slow down one of the NBA’s top scoring teams when they host the Memphis Grizzlies (31-14, 11-11 Away) on Sunday. Memphis was narrowly defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers 122-121 at Crypto.com Arena on Friday.
Ja Morant was the scoring leader in defeat with 22 points. Brandon Clarke added 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Grizzlies are 1.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference, currently sitting in second.
Phoenix is playing on back-to-back days after finding victory yesterday at Footprint Center, beating the Indiana Pacers 112-107. Josh Okogie had 24 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks, carrying the team. The Suns are the 11th seed in the Western Conference.
It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams. Phoenix will be looking to level the season series after taking only one of the three earlier matchups. Memphis won the last showdown 136-106 at FedExForum on Monday.
Morant led the Grizzlies with 29 points, while Desmond Bane played a key role with 28 points and six assists. Mikal Bridges had 21 points and seven assists in the losing effort.
Morant is averaging 27.2 points per game, 10th-highest in the league, to lead the Grizzlies in scoring this season. Morant also has dished 7.9 assists per game, sixth-most in the NBA. Meanwhile, Steven Adams is grabbing 11.4 rebounds.
Deandre Ayton and Bridges have been the primary providers of the Suns’ offense, averaging 17.1 and 16.2 points per game, respectively. Ayton also has posted 9.6 rebounds per game, while Bridges has recorded 3.5 assists per game.
The Grizzlies rank as one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league, fourth-best with 117.6 points per game. The Grizzlies have had the advantage in recent visits to Footprint Center, winning six of the last 10.
