The Minnesota Timberwolves (10-11, 5-6 Home) host the Memphis Grizzlies (12-8, 5-6 Away) Wednesday in what may turn out to be a shootout. Memphis topped the New York Knicks 127-123 at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. With 27 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds, Ja Morant was a top performer.
The Grizzlies are the third seed in the Western Conference, 1.5 games behind the Phoenix Suns. Minnesota lost their third in a row on Monday at Capital One Arena, falling to the Washington Wizards 142-127. Anthony Edwards led the team in scoring in the loss with 29 points.
With 23 points, Jaylen Nowell also impressed. The Timberwolves are the 10th seed in the Western Conference. The teams are meeting for the final time this season. Memphis will be pursuing a season sweep against Minnesota after taking the only previous meeting 114-103 at FedExForum on November 11, their third straight head-to-head victory.
Morant led the Grizzlies with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. Edwards had 28 points, six rebounds, and six assists in defeat. The Grizzlies have been led this season by Morant, who is averaging 28.5 points per game, best in the NBA. Morant also has dished 7.6 assists per game, most in the league.
Meanwhile, Steven Adams is grabbing 10.9 rebounds. Edwards (22.6 ppg) and Karl-Anthony Towns (20.8) have supplied much of the T’Wolves’ offense. Edwards leads the NBA in scoring, while Towns is first. Rudy Gobert is collecting 12.4 rebounds per game, most in the NBA, and D’Angelo Russell is recording 6.6 assists (1st).
The Grizzlies and the Timberwolves rank as two of the top scoring teams in the league, tied for second with 115.7 points per game on average. The Grizzlies have had the advantage in the last 10 trips to Target Center, winning six. Memphis is 5-5 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +0.9 (114.2-113.3).
Minnesota has also split the last 10 (5-5), allowing 117.5 points per game on average while scoring only 115.6 (-1.9 margin).
