New York Knicks @ Brooklyn Nets – 7:30pm ET

We kick off our night with the first of four Battle of New York contests for the season. The East-leading Brooklyn Nets host the New York Knicks in a traditional rivalry matchup, however the form of both sides has been quite different of late, with Brooklyn thriving and the Knicks struggling.

Denis Kirilov

The New York Knicks will have yet another tough meeting on Tuesday, this time against the Brooklyn Nets inside Barclays Center. The Knicks have faced only strong teams recently as they had to go head-to-head with teams like the Bulls, the Lakers, the Suns, and the Hawks. They won 2 out of these 4 games, as they bowed down to the Suns and the Bulls. The Brooklyn Nets, on the other hand, had won seven of their last eight before losing to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. The Suns proved that there are some more issues that the Nets should resolve, the main one of them being the lack of consistency within the roster. They might have Kevin Durant who regularly scores around 30 points, but the rest of the Nets will need to level up their game.

This will be an interesting matchup to follow as the New York Knicks will be eager to show what they are really capable of. However, they won’t be able to use Derrick Rose and Kemba Walker, who will both miss the game. For the Nets, Joe Harris and Kyrie Irving continue to be sidelined. I think both teams will perform a fantastic show in the battle of New York and I see this as a close game. That’s why I will choose the Knicks’ spread.

Denis’ NBA Pick: New York Knicks +6.5 (+114)

Michael Lantz

In the battle for “The Big Apple”, the New York Knicks travel across the Brooklyn Bridge to take on the Brooklyn Nets in Barclays Center. The Knicks may still be NYC’s most popular team, but they were swept by Brooklyn when the two faced off last season. The Knicks will hope to break their losing streak against Brooklyn on Tuesday night.

The Nets are coming off a tough loss against the Phoenix Suns, who at the time had strung together 15 straight wins together. It was in no way a shameful loss, but the Nets have had a hard time against top-tier opponents this year. While the Knicks aren’t quite the team they were last season, this one should still have a playoff environment to it. The Nets’ Kevin Durant has had an MVP-caliber season and he’ll look to continue his exceptional play against a Knicks team that’s taken a step back from last season’s defensive identity. While both teams aren’t quite what they were last year, I’ll still go with the Nets to show they’re New York’s best team.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Brooklyn Nets (-260)

Noah Dunlap

The New York Knicks enter this matchup as one of the toughest teams in the NBA to figure out. They started the year strong, and then hit a really rough patch, and then looked as if they were going to work themselves out of the lull, only to fall back a bit. Even with a roster that is virtually completely healthy, they haven’t been able to find any consistency at all over the past 3 weeks or so, and going against the team that is currently the best in the East, I don’t like that to suddenly change.

Brooklyn enters this one sitting at 14-6, and owns the best record in the Eastern Conference. Despite a start that saw James Harden play relatively poorly for his standards, Kevin Durant stepped up during that rough patch and played like an MVP candidate to keep the Nets afloat. Now, with Harden playing better, and Durant still playing at an MVP level, Brooklyn is just rolling. With them being a better team, and the Knicks being slated for another loss (they’ve gone L-W-L-W over their past eight, and won their last outing), the safe play is to take Brooklyn to win and cover in this one.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Brooklyn Nets -6.5 (-106)

Memphis Grizzlies @ Toronto Raptors – 7:30pm ET

For the second time in seven days, the Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors will go head to head. The Raptors were able to come away 13-point winners in last week’s clash in Memphis, however they have lost both games since then while Memphis managed to overcome the Kings in their last game, despite Ja Morant watching in street clothes.

Denis Kirilov

The Memphis Grizzlies and the Toronto Raptors will face each other as both teams will probably struggle a lot to reach the Playoffs in the spring. The Grizzlies lost their superstar, Ja Morant, and they will need to rely on the other players in their squad for the most part of the season. The Raptors are simply not the same team as they were back in 2019 with Kawhi Leonard in their roster. Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam couldn’t find their rhythm even since. This made it impossible for them to qualify for the Playoffs last year and with players like Scottie Barnes and OG Anunoby, they will try to become a nightmare for every team once again. However, the latter is out with a hip injury, while Goran Dragic and Gary Trent are expected to miss as well.

The Grizzlies’ performance is still quite high, as they managed to grab the win over the Sacramento Kings by 27 points on Sunday. The team showed sheer consistency and a fantastic balance as four of them occupied the top places in terms of points against the Kings. Dillon Brooks, Jaren Jackson, and Desmond Bane proved that they can be as effective from the field as their missing superstar. For me, this will be a tight one to call, but I see the Grizzlies going back home with the win.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Memphis Grizzlies (+164)

Michael Lantz

The Memphis Grizzlies had a surprise win on Sunday night, as they fended off a fast-paced Sacramento Kings team, despite not having Ja Morant. Two players who have shown they have offensive potential stepped up for Memphis: Dillon Brooks scored 21 points, and Desmond Bane dropped 18 to lead the Grizzlies to victory. They’ll look to continue their success without Morant against an unpredictable Toronto Raptors team.

The Raptors have a lot of potential when they’re at 100 percent, but they’ve had to battle a bunch of injuries this year. They started off the season without Pascal Siakam, and are currently without breakthrough player OG Anunoby and vet Gordan Dragic. After a frustrating loss to the Celtics on Sunday, the Raptors hope to fend off a Morant-less Memphis team at home. It’ll be a good time for guys like Siakam, Fred VanVleet, and (if healthy) Gary Treant Jr., to go off on offense, as the Grizzlies sit toward the bottom of the NBA in major defensive categories. As much as I love seeing Memphis’ young guys step up, I’m not convinced they can make a pattern of it quite yet. I’ll pick the Raptors to take this one at home.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Toronto Raptors (-196)

Noah Dunlap

Can the Memphis Grizzlies pick up win number two without Ja Morant in the lineup, who went out with a sprained knee late last week? They got good news on the Morant front early this week as it’s been announced he’s only expected to miss a few weeks after what looked like could’ve been an ugly injury. They came out in their first game without him and absolutely destroyed the Sacramento Kings and now they get Toronto on the road. The key for the Grizzlies is whether or not Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane can continue to step up without their best player on the floor.

For Toronto, they’ve been all over the place so far this year. With wins over teams they shouldn’t have beaten, and losses that should’ve occurred under no circumstances, they’re tough to predict. In the first meeting against Memphis this year, they got down big early, before mounting a massive comeback and getting a tight win in Memphis. I actually like Memphis to return the favor in this one, even without Ja, and go north of the border and get a close win over the Raptors.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Memphis Grizzlies (+164)

Golden State Warriors @ Phoenix Suns – 10pm ET

This is the matchup of the night and potentially the matchup of the season, to date. The clear two best teams in basketball face off as the Phoenix Suns host the Golden State Warriors. Golden State comes into this clash with just two losses to their name this season and is on a seven-game winning streak while Phoenix has lost only three and is also in the midst of a 16-game streak of their own. Who will come out on top and gain early bragging rights?

Denis Kirilov

The clash between the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns is the most anticipated match in the NBA at the moment. Both teams have been simply out of this world from the start of the season. The Warriors might lead the Western Conference with their 18 wins and 2 losses, but the Suns are on a 16-game winning streak heading into this game. Phoenix managed to prolong this run after a tough win in Brooklyn on Saturday.

The Golden State Warriors, on the other hand, are simply unstoppable. They might still miss Klay Thompson and James Wiseman, but this doesn’t show up in the current standings. The team is able to dominate all other teams in the NBA and they do so more and more frequently. Steph Curry has had some fantastic performances recently as he dropped 33 points against the Clippers, 32 against the Blazers, 40 against the Cavs, 37 points against the Nets, and 40 points against the Bulls. This comes to show that he can come up huge in important games. However, the Suns are a different team than the rest as they rely on the complexity within their whole roster. I think Phoenix will be able to come out of this one victorious and I will go with them covering their spread in this case.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Phoenix Suns -2.5 (-112)

Michael Lantz

I know we say this every couple of weeks, but this is definitely the game of the year…for now. The two best records in the NBA go up against each other as the 17-2 Golden State Warriors travel to “The Valley ”,  to take on the winners of 16 straight: the Phoenix Suns.

Golden State has been almost immaculate on both sides of the ball, as they lead the NBA in offensive and defensive points per game. But creeping up close behind them are the Suns, who also sit in the top ten for both categories. Phoenix has shown no fear during their run of games, as they look to return to the top of the Western Conference and hopefully repeat as conference champs. Golden State looks like the only team with a shot to beat them right now, as the Warriors are coming off two wins against top Western Conference talent in the Blazers and the Clippers.

The Suns will depend heavily on Chris Paul to control the tempo on offense and will hope that DeAndre Ashton can bully a bit inside. Meanwhile, these are the games Steph Curry is made for; so expect the greatest shooter of all time to go off. Additionally, I expect this solid perimeter defense to frustrate guys Like Devin Booker a bit. I don’t usually go against a streaking team, but the Warriors live for these types of games.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Golden State Warriors (+120)

Noah Dunlap

Do I actually have to try to predict this game? Can’t we all just sit back and enjoy watching the two best teams in the NBA go head-to-head. After a rough 1-3 start by Phoenix, these two have far and away been the class of the league all season long. The Suns are currently on a 16-game winning streak, yet still trail Golden State by a game in the Western Conference. The Warriors are sitting at 18-2 and look as if they don’t want to lose either. Both teams are playing great, and have similar lineups, seeing as I think Devin Booker, CP3, and DeAndre Ayton are as good as Steph, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole.

I have no idea which way this game plays out, but just for the fun of it, since long winning streaks are so hard to continue to put together in the NBA, give me Golden State to win an extremely tight one on the road. I think Steph comes out and shows that he’s arguably the clear MVP up to this point, and the Warriors walk into Phoenix and sneak out victorious.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Golden State Warriors (+120)

Detroit Pistons @ Portland Trail Blazers – 10pm ET

In somewhat of a lacklustre matchup, the Portland Trail Blazers host the Detroit Pistons in a matchup of two teams that are below 0.500 on the season. It may be unfair to bundle the Blazers with the Pistons, given they are 5.5 games better overall, but Portland has lost three straight games and will be hoping that their return to the Moda Center will help them turn things around.

Denis Kirilov

The Portland Trail Blazers will face the Detroit Pistons in Moda Center in a match that almost everyone thinks should be won by the hosts. However, the Blazers performance recently suggests otherwise. They have lost their last three encounters in the NBA and although their opponents might be one of the best in the League, this doesn’t excuse them from not having even the slightest chance at winning against the Warriors and the Jazz. Portland might be a home team this season, but they will need to learn to play on the road, if they want to be taken seriously by their opponents.

The Pistons, on the other hand, is without a doubt one of the worst teams in the NBA at the moment. They lost their last 6 games, but at least they put up some resistance against teams like the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Blazers are on a 9-game winning streak at home as they have already defeated the likes of the Phoenix Suns, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and Denver Nuggets. I think this series will go on and Detroit won’t be able to put an end to this. I will take the Blazers’ spread in this one as Damian Lillard and his teammates proved they can win by a huge margin at home even against the toughest opponents in the NBA.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Portland Trail Blazers -9.5 (-110)

Michael Lantz

If you look at Detroit’s 4-16 record, they’re easy to dismiss, but this young roster has been able to stay in close games with the Warriors, Lakers, and Heat. This team has to be satisfied to see themselves already competing despite still in the stages of early development. Veteran Jeremi Grant has helped on the scoring end, but both the PIstons franchise and their fans have to be impressed with Cade Cunningham so far.He still has a lot to work on, but he’s already showing he can be a potential nightly triple-double threat in the near future. The Pistons next stop takes them up to Portland, where they’ll have to face the always amusing Portland Trail Blazers.

fanduel sign up bonus

After Portland looked like they were finally figuring it out during a four-game win streak between November 15th and 23rd, it now seems they’ve slipped again, losing three straight games. Yes, two of those were against Western Conference juggernauts, the Warriors and the Jazz, but if Portland plans to truly compete, they must win those games. Now they look to get back to winning as they take on a likely high-lottery pick team in the Detroit Pistons.

With the spread being at -9.5 in favor of Portland, at home, you’d think that’s the obvious choice, but Portland is playing with a lot of pressure right now to perform, whereas the Pistons have zero expectations, allowing them to play a bit more loose. I think Portland wins, but give me the Pistons to cover, to get a better bang for your buck

Michael’s NBA Pick: Detroit Pistons +9.5 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

In this matchup, one of these teams has been disappointing this season, and one has just been absolutely abysmal. Portland, with a lineup that features Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, and Jusef Nurkic, should be playing much better than they have so far this season, but a lot of that has been due to the fact that Dame started the year on a cold streak that not many expected. Since beginning to play a little better, Dame has now led Portland to a 10-11 record, and that’s one that’s almost certainly going to continue to improve.

Detroit, on the other hand, is just awful. Even getting the number one overall pick in last year’s draft hasn’t helped much, as Cade Cunningham has put his youth on full display so far for much of the year. This Pistons roster just isn’t very good, and even against a shaky Trail Blazers team, I don’t see Detroit standing much of a chance in this one. I think they do what they’ve done for much of the year, which is play a tight one, and eventually come up short, which has simply been par for the course for them this season. I do think the line being right at 10 is a bit too high for the Portland team, so give me Detroit to cover the number, but just barely.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Detroit Pistons +9.5 (-110)

Los Angeles Lakers @ Sacramento Kings – 10:30pm ET

In a rematch of Friday’s spectacular triple-overtime clash, the Sacramento Kings host the Los Angeles Lakers to round out our night. The Kings were able to escape LA with a four-point win after 15 minutes of bonus basketball, but they got pumped by Memphis in their last game, while the Lakers bounced back with a win over Detroit.

Denis Kirilov

The Los Angeles Lakers will have their rematch against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday in the NBA. The first match between these teams finished as a dramatic thriller after three overtimes. De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield led the Kings to the final victory, 137:141. The most impressive part is that the teams literally scored 78 points after regulation. The main reason for this Lakers’ loss is their poor performance from beyond the arc throughout the game. With this victory, the Sacramento Kings closed the gap to Los Angeles, but they are still some wins away from their 9th place in the West.

LeBron James proved that he is ready to lead the Lakers one way or another with three consecutive 30+ points performances recently against the Pacers, the Kings, and the Pistons. He would only need someone from Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook or even Malik Monk to step up and things will be slowly going into their places. The Kings show a lot of potential as they have a fantastic roster full of young players who are hungry for glory. The oldest team by average age will face a main Sacramento squad with most players being around 22-24 years of age. I think that the experience within this Lakers team will help them prevail in this visit to 1 Center. I will have them cover their spread.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -4.5 (-110)

Michael Lantz

On Friday night, NBA fans got quite the show as the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers went to triple overtime, eventually resulting in a 141-137 win for the Kings. These two now rematch just four days later in California’s capital.

The Sacramento Kings have shown some new light since the firing of Luke Walton. Despite getting run off the floor by a Ja Morant-less Grizzlies team, that’s the worst defensive team in basketball, the Kings had two solid wins prior: the Lakers game and a win over the Blazers just two days prior. They have the ability to run the floor and put up points against any opponent, just watch don’t expect a great defensive showing.

Same could be said for the Lakers. Sure they have a bit more star power, but this team has taken a hit from the more defensive-minded squad they were when they won the NBA Finals in 2020. Still with players like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook all playing together, they can overpower most teams with their offense. They tried to do this against the Kings but it didn’t fly, but that was also because the team blew a 13-point fourth quarter lead. They may not need to be a great defense, but they can’t be choke artists if they want to win. This one will be tough to pick, I want to say the Lakers will bounce back, but LeBron James is also questionable. I’m gonna imagine he pulls through to make up for the other day and if he does give me the Lakers to cover.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -4.5 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

Sacramento isn’t very good, but before a disastrous outing to Memphis on Sunday, their young core had been showing flashes of a team that has the potential to be a postseason team in the years to come. However, even with Los Angeles struggling to find a rhythm this season, I just don’t think the Kings have the talent to compete with the talent (now that LeBron is back) that the Lakers are going to throw at them.

LA has looked a lot worse than most people seemed to think they would coming into the season. A lot of that is due to the fact that many of their off-season moves didn’t make much sense to me, as they simply added age, without adding any legitimate value to the team. I think the Lakers continue to struggle for much of the year, but not in this one, as I think LeBron takes much of the load upon himself, and simply carries his team to a win in this one.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -4.5 (-110)
