Brooklyn Nets @ Toronto Raptors – 3:30pm ET

We have an Atlantic Division showdown as the 6-4 Toronto Raptors host the 6-3 Brooklyn Nets. While the Nets are expected to be one of the league’s best teams this season, many are surprised by Toronto’s hot start, but will it continue tonight?

Tim Newton

While the Raptors have gotten off to a hot start, I’m not actually sure they have beaten anyone good, outside of the Knicks. Three of their five other wins came against teams that didn’t make the playoffs last season, and the other two were against Boston, who have stumbled out of the gates and internally blown up already, and Washington, who is also overachieving this season.

Brooklyn on the other hand has struggled without Kyrie Irving and with James Harden playing a lot lower than the play we are used to from him. However, they still have Kevin Durant, and Harden is slowly, but surely, coming along. They have now won four straight games, but again, who has it been against? Only one of those wins was against a team that made the playoffs last season.

Looking at this matchup, I think Brooklyn should be ready to go against a team that didn’t make the playoffs last season, Toronto. The Raptors have been seriously over-achieving and been gifted by a good schedule, and that was evident in their loss to the Cavs on Friday night. They had plenty of opportunities to win that game, which they lost by a point, but they won’t get the same chances against a very good Brooklyn side this afternoon.

Tim’s NBA Pick: Brooklyn Nets -3.5 (-110)

Denis Kirilov

The Brooklyn Nets and the Toronto Raptors face off each other in the first game for Sunday in the NBA. The Nets would like to keep their momentum, after recording 4 wins in a row, while the Raptors will try to get back to winning as they suffered an upset in their previous game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at home. Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby are their points leaders in the beginning of the season, as they are still awaiting on Pascal Siakam to make his comeback anytime soon.

The Nets have found a way to bounce back, after some disappointing opening matches. Recently, they won against the Pacers, the Pistons, and the Hawks. The team from New York is relying much on his superstar, Kevin Durant, who is almost single-handedly carrying the Nets so far. Although the games that I’ve mentioned were low-scoring ones, I think that there are enough players on both teams who can have a monstrous night at Barclays Center. Hence, I am going with what I think is a low line for total points scored and pick “over 209.5 points” in the game.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Over 209.5 (-110)

Michael Lantz

Back to basics for Brooklyn: after an unconvincing start the boys from Barclays Center are now on a four game win streak. They received a double-double from Kevin Durant, who is near the top of everyone’s early season MVP voting.

On Sunday they’ll head to “The North” to take on the Toronto Raptors, who’re looking forward to having all-star Pascal Siakam in their lineup for the first time this year. Toronto have fared well without him, they sit at 6-4 and have gotten big performances from young players OG Anunoby and Fred VanVleet. Despite some struggles last year, this Raptors team looks like it’s ready to compete for playoff success again; they can further prove this with a win over the Nets. I think they take this game at home in a close one.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Toronto Raptors (+124)

Noah Dunlap

Brooklyn finally looks as if it’s learning how to play without Kyrie Irving. They opened the year looking a bit shell shocked, and without a veteran guy like Kyrie to play the point and calm things down, they struggled out of the gate, with Kevin Durant having to take on too much by himself, as James Harden also struggled at the beginning of the year. He’s since playing a bit better, but certainly not as well as he would like, but it’s been enough to get the Nets to a 4-game winning streak.

For Toronto, they’ve played decent basketball this season, which has been surprising to some, as they’ve found their way to a 6-4 record, but they did lose a 1-point affair to the young but much improved Cleveland Cavaliers in their last outing. I still have doubts about this roster having enough talent to compete at an elite level, and those questions and doubts aren’t helped by the fact that Pascal Siakam is still out as a presence down low. Even being in Toronto, I’m expecting Brooklyn to show up in a big way and continue the winning streak, pushing it to 5.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Brooklyn Nets (-146)

Cleveland Cavaliers @ New York Knicks – 6pm ET

The Cleveland Cavaliers, who are riding a three-game winning streak, head to The Garden to face a New York Knicks side that is coming off their biggest comeback win in franchise history, beating the Bucks in Milwaukee on Friday night.

Tim Newton

While the Knicks haven’t looked at their best lately, losing two of their last three, Friday’s win in Milwaukee makes it look like they have turned a corner. That will now get tested against a Cleveland side that is riding high at the moment, but has lost Lauri Markkanen from their giant starting front-court. While they were able to get over the line against Portland and Toronto, I doubt they can against a New York side that is well drilled, and a proven performer.

The Knicks haven’t been performing at their peak so far this season, but they are still 6-3 and have some incredible pieces that can help on both sides of the ball. Julius Randle continues to improve from his most improved season from last year, while RJ Barrett has now scored 20+ in five straight games.

The most important aspect for New York is their defense, which clicked into gear during their comeback win over the Bucks. They were the best scoring defense last season, and Tom Thibodeau will want his team to continue on with it now, especially against a lacklustre Cleveland offense. I think they will, and the Knicks, at home, should take care of business here.

Tim’s NBA Pick: New York Knicks -8 (-106)

Denis Kirilov

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the pleasant surprises in the NBA so far. They are 6-4 and find themselves in 8th place in the Eastern Conference. It will be immensely difficult for them to reach the Playoffs, but if they manage to keep this performance, their chances will become higher. The Cavs have one of the youngest rosters in the NBA as five of their main players are below the age of 25 – Darius Garland (21), Jarrett Allen (23), Collin Sexton (22), Dean Wade (24), and Evan Mobley (20).

On the other hand, we have an experienced Knicks squad who is ready to attack the Playoffs at all costs. Julius Randle, Derrick Rose, and Kemba Walker lead the team from the “Big Apple”, while players like RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and Mitchell Robinson are gaining vital experience on a daily basis. The Knicks have already had their ups and downs as they stand in 5th place with 6 wins and 3 losses. They defeated teams like the 76ers, the Celtics, the Bulls, and the Bucks and at the same time Toronto and Orlando managed to get a win at Madison Square Garden. I think this inconsistency is what makes me choose to support the Cavaliers in this matchup, or at least hope that they will cover the spread.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers +8 (-114)

Michael Lantz

The Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten off to an impressive 6-4 start and third overall pick Evan Mobley is already getting Anthony Davis comparisons. The young seven footer is averaging nearly 14 points per game and 8 rebounds while averaging 50% from the field. He’s been a key ingredient in the Cavs hot start.

They’ll travel to New York to take on the Knicks at “The Mecca”. The Knicks are coming off of a great win over the Bucks; even though Milwaukee didn’t have Khris Middleton or Brook Lopez, it still has to feel good to beat the defending champs. The Knicks should be able to handle an on paper inferior Cavs team, but they’ve also struggled with teams that are worse than them. Based on that I’ll pick the Cavs to cover.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers +8 (-114)

Noah Dunlap

The Cleveland Cavaliers, as mentioned earlier, are one of the most improved teams in basketball this season, opening the year with a 6-4 record, and despite being extremely young, looking like a potential playoff team in an improved Eastern Conference. They’re leaning heavily on two guys under the age of 23 to lead the way, as Colin Sexton is in year four, yet still only 22, and Evan Mobley is a 20-year old rookie who is averaging 14 points and 8 rebounds through ten games.

For New York, they’ve continued to surprise this season, opening the season 6-3 and looking like a team to watch out for when it comes to teams with the chance to win the Eastern Conference. In their last outing, they knocked off a depleted Milwaukee Bucks squad, and I like their chances to keep the momentum going in this one at home. However, with Cleveland playing solid basketball, the Knicks laying eight points seems a bit steep, so expect New York to still get the win, but Cleveland getting the cover.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers +8 (-114)

Milwaukee Bucks @ Washington Wizards – 6pm ET

The bruised and battered defending Champions have seen their results suffer due to the size of their injury list. Now, they have to dust themselves off and get back up for an important clash with a Washington Wizards side that has outperformed expectations through their first nine games.

Tim Newton

While Jrue Holiday returned to the lineup against the Knicks, it clearly showed that they were still missing Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. They saw their 21-point lead disappear, eventually losing by 15 points at home. So the question is, will Giannis Antetokoumpo, Holiday and the role players be enough against a Washington side that, in my eyes, is overachieving.

Washington started the season 5-1 but have been 1-2 since, losing to Atlanta and Toronto over that stretch. But did their big win over a very good Memphis side mean they are back? Not only did they score 115, with seven different players scoring in double figures, but they kept the Grizzlies to just 87 points, their lowest total of the season by far.

Looking at this clash, I don’t see anyone that will be able to stop Giannis, while the return of Holiday helps keep Bradley Beal at bay. That gives the advantage to Milwaukee, and given their performance against the Knicks, I’m expecting a bounce back game, with a point to prove. I don’t like picking so many favourites to win and cover, but you must base each game on its merit and the Bucks should come out and smack them here.

Tim’s NBA Pick: Milwaukee Bucks -3 (-110)

Denis Kirilov

The absence of Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez is taking its toll on the performance of the Milwaukee Bucks. The current NBA Champions are in 10th place with a negative win-rate. They have been struggling recently as they suffered defeats to more mediocre teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and the San Antonio Spurs. In some games, they were even having trouble scoring more than 20 points in a single quarter. Giannis is occasionally displaying a “one-man show” performance, but his efforts become more and more unsuccessful.

The Washington Wizards are coming into this game after a dominating 115-87 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The team found a way to make up for the losses against the Hawks and the Raptors. In the match against the Grizzlies, they have once again proved that they are more focused on the team rather than on some individuals. Seven of their players surpassed the 10-point mark which is a display of high consistency and sheer balance within the roster. With Dinwiddie, Beal, Harrell, and Kuzma on their team, I am certain that they can compete like equals with the Bucks. Having in mind the missing key players for Milwaukee, I would even say that the Wizards are my favorites to win the match and that’s why I will go with them.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Washington Wizards (+132)

Michael Lantz

Injuries and COVID complications have clouded the Milwaukee Bucks season so far. When Jrue Holiday returned to the lineup on Friday against the Knicks, the Bucks were optimistic they could add consecutive wins after blowing out the Detroit Pistons. Unfortunately for the Bucks, an electric Knicks team beat them comfortably at home. Now that Holiday has had a game to comfortably readjust to the swing of things, the Bucks hope they can gain a big win against a tough Washington Wizards team.

After the Wizards started off 5-1, they lost consecutive contests before a big Friday night win against the Grizzlies. They’ve been pleased to not rely solely on Bradley Beal for scoring in a majority of their wins including against the Grizzlies, as seven players  scored double digits. The Wizards hope to carry over their great play against the Grizzlies into the Bucks game. Only thing is, they rank as one of three worst teams in the NBA for opposition points in the paint; that’s where Giannis Anterokoinmpo excels. I expect the Bucks to use that to their advantage and bounce back from a loss against the Knicks.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Milwaukee Bucks (-156)

Noah Dunlap

At some point, the Milwaukee Bucks are going to reach 100% again, but until then it’s hard to take them to win any games against a remotely decent team. With Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez still out, even with Jrue Holiday returning to the lineup, Giannis has basically had to be a one-man show, and while he’s proven to be up to the task oftentimes against bad teams, he’s struggling to do the same against quality opponents.

And well, Washington is certainly a quality opponent. They’ve started the year 6-3, and coming off a home win against Memphis Friday night to halt a two game skid, I expect them to be back playing with the same confidence that we saw from them before the short losing streak. Being led by Bradley Beal, and new additions Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell, look for Washington to take care of business at home against an undermanned Bucks team.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Washington Wizards (+132)

Indiana Pacers @ Sacramento Kings – 6pm ET

The Sacramento Kings are riding high, coming into this one on the back of a two-game winning streak, including a 30-point win last time out. They now turn their attention to the Indiana Pacers, who started their West-coast road trip with a loss to the Blazers.

Tim Newton

I’m liking what the Kings are bringing to the table this season, especially with the promise that De’Aaron Fox may have gotten the monkey off his back and found his groove yet again. He had struggled so far this season but in a 140-110 win over Charlotte, going up against LaMelo Ball, Fox finished with 21 points and 9 assists. He was one of seven Sacramento players to score in double figures, and one of three to score 20+, in what was a massive result for the Kings.

However, the Pacers do seem to be a better defensive side than the Hornets, especially with Malcolm Brogdon on the perimeter and Myles Turner manning the paint. However, Brogdon missed their last game and is just a game-time decision for this clash, which is clearly a big blow for the Pacers.

If he is unable to go, the Kings should win this comfortably. Even if he does play, I think that Sacramento, at home, should be too good in this clash and will come away with the win.

Tim’s NBA Pick: Sacramento Kings (-120)

Denis Kirilov

The Sacramento Kings are off to a solid start to the season, getting 5 wins out of 9 games. On the other hand, the Indiana Pacers are disappointing their fans with a 3-7 record and a 13th place in the Eastern Conference only ahead of the Magic and the Pistons. The Kings scored 140 points in their last match against the Charlotte Hornets as seven of their players put up 10 points or more. Three of them (Hield, Holmes, and Fox) scored 20+ points and Holmes also had an impressive performance with 20 rebounds for just 33 minutes of play. The team looks really compact and balanced which might be their biggest comparative advantage in such matchups.

The Pacers have been way off target so far as they are aiming at the Playoffs in the spring. They have been quite unlucky in the beginning of the season as they frequently lose by 1-5 points. The only team that can be considered to have beaten the Pacers by a significant margin is the Toronto Raptors who defeated them by 18 points. Indiana surely has the players with whom to contest the Playoffs, but at the moment they look more like a ruin than like a solid team. Hence, I will trust the Kings to close this game one way or another.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Sacramento Kings (-120)

Michael Lantz

After an impressive win against the New York Knicks, the Indiana Pacers were hoping for that to be a turnaround to a disappointing season. Unfortunately they fell back to their old ways after losing to the Portland Trail Blazers; in a game where Damian Lillard only scored 4 points.

The Pacers now take on the speedy Sacramento Kings squad, who have evolved into one of the games most exciting to watch. The Kings are coming off a 30-point win over the upstart Charlotte Hornets. In that game, they had seven players score in double digits including a 23 point/20 rebound performance for Richaun Holmes. So far the Kings are looking pretty set across the board to make a big run this season; I expect that to continue against the Pacers. While the Pacers can score with the Kings, I expect Sacramento to use the home court advantage to their benefit.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Sacramento Kings -1.5 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

Give me all the points in this one. The Sacramento Kings have started out the year with a decent 5-4 start, but while the offense is one of the best, most high powered offenses in the league, the defense has been absolutely abysmal. For instance, in their last outing they threw in 140 in regulation.

The Pacers have been disappointing so far this season, as they currently sit at 3-7. The good news is that they’ve been playing teams close, just not actually coming out with any wins. One other thing to keep in mind with this matchup is that they absolutely have the ability to score with the Kings, as in similar fashion, the Pacers offense has the ability to score ridiculous numbers of points, while the defense is remarkably bad. For that reason, don’t bother taking either side to win, just take the over, because there’s guaranteed to be points put up everywhere.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Over 224.5 (-110)

Charlotte Hornets @ Los Angeles Clippers – 9pm ET

The Charlotte Hornets are two games into their five game West Coast road trip and they will be hoping that their results begin to turn here tonight. After losing to the Warriors and Kings over their last two, the Hornets now face a Los Angeles Clippers side that has won three straight, albeit against poor teams.

Tim Newton

I think the Hornets bounce back here. LA have been gifted in their last three games, playing the Timberwolves twice, as well as the Thunder. Both of those sides are a clear step below the Hornets, while Charlotte has been playing teams that have been playing much better than the Clippers so far this season.

I am very intrigued to see the matchup between Miles Bridges and Paul George. The former is the leading contender for this season’s Most Improved Player award, while the latter is the clear one-man show on his side and is only two years removed from being an MVP finalist.

Where the Hornets have the edge is that LaMelo Ball puts them on a whole new level, playing exceptionally well this season and setting the floor perfectly this side. This has allowed the likes of Gordan Hayward and Terry Rozier to focus on scoring, which has meant that Charlotte, when they play a little bit of defense (unlikely last game), has been coming out on top of their games. I expect a response from their poor defensive showing against the Kings, and I am more than happy to take them with the points to round out the night.

Tim’s NBA Pick: Charlotte Hornets +5 (-110)

Denis Kirilov

The last game for Monday in the NBA is between two teams who are dead even in terms of overall statistics, but are coming into this game in a totally different mood. The Charlotte Hornets are in a 3-game losing streak which started against the Cavaliers at home and went on with losses to the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. Their last two games were lost by a total of 52 points which is a significant margin for a team that will try to fight for the Playoffs. The Clippers, on the other hand, found the upper hand in their last three games as they defeated the OKC Thunder, and the Minnesota Timberwolves twice.

Both teams are with a 50% win-rate so far and they will be looking to improve this percentage throughout the season. The main differences between their opening games and what we are seeing in the last couple of games came from the performance of their best players. Paul George has come up clutch in his most recent matches, while Miles Bridges started missing shot after shot for the Hornets. However, I am willing to believe that both players can compete at a high level tomorrow and the fans around the world will be in for a treat with this match. I expect a dynamic game with plenty of fast break points, so I am choosing “over 222.5 points”.

Denis’ NBA Pick: Over 222.5 (-112)

Michael Lantz

After an impressive start, the Charlotte Hornets now sit at .500 and lost to the Sacramento Kings on Friday by 30 points. While Charlotte has had some outstanding offensive performances this season, they need to work on their defensive adjustments.

The Hornets will spend Sunday night taking on the L.A. Clippers, a team that’s starting to show signs of last postseason. The Clippers are at .500 without Kawhi Leonard, thanks to Paul George playing himself into the MVP conversation. In addition to George, the Clippers are pleased to see their supporting cast step up. In particular Reggie Jackson, who is showing flashes of last years playoffs in the regular season in an attempt to become this team’s certified ”number two”. I think the Clips being that energy into Sunday night. I’ll take them to beat the Hornets at Staples Center.

Michael’s NBA Pick: L.A. Clippers -5 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

Charlotte looked good to start the year, but since has just absolutely collapsed, falling to .500 on the year, including a 30-point demolition at the hands of the Sacramento Kings Friday night. The offense has shown the ability to put up high totals against most teams when they want to. However, the defense has proven that they want to do everything except actually play defense. This doesn’t bode well as they travel to LA to take on a Clippers team that is finally looking like last year’s postseason squad, even continuing to be without Kawhi Leonard.

For LA, Paul George is shouldering the majority of the load, as he’s looking like a legitimate MVP contender through the first 3 weeks of the season. To help out, PG-13 and the Clips are getting really good production from their supporting cast, including solid minutes from Reggie Jackson and Luke Kennard. I don’t expect that supporting cast production to slow down against a defense as bad as Charlotte’s, so give me LA to continue to cruise, this time with a win at home.

Noah’s NBA Pick: LA Clippers -5 (-110)
