The Atlanta Hawks (14-15, 5-10 Away), one of the NBA’s top scoring teams, are on the road to face the Charlotte Hornets (7-21, 4-10 Home) on Friday. Atlanta dropped their last game against the Orlando Magic 135-124 at Amway Center on Wednesday, their fourth loss in a row away from home.
De’Andre Hunter had a standout performance in the loss with 25 points. The Hawks are eighth in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte lost their sixth in a row on Wednesday at Spectrum Center, falling to the Detroit Pistons 141-134 in overtime. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the team in scoring in the loss with 28 points.
With 21 points, Jalen McDaniels also played a part. The Hornets are the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference. The teams are meeting for the final time this season. Charlotte will be seeking a season sweep against Atlanta after triumphing in the only previous game 126-109 at State Farm Arena on October 23.
Oubre Jr. led the Hornets with 24 points, while Nick Richards contributed 20 points and 11 rebounds. Trae Young had 28 points and nine assists in the losing effort.
The Hawks have been led this season by Young, who is averaging 26.8 points per game, best in the league. Young also has dished 9.9 assists per game, most in the league. Meanwhile, Clint Capela is grabbing 12.0 rebounds.
Terry Rozier (22.4 ppg) and Oubre Jr. (21.1) have supplied much of the Hornets’ offense. Rozier leads the league in scoring, while Oubre Jr. is first. Rozier also has doled out 5.5 assists per game, most in the league. Mason Plumlee has averaged 9.6 rebounds per game. The Hawks rank as one of the top scoring offenses in the league, fifth-best with 113.5 points per game.
The Hornets have had the advantage in recent meetings between the teams at Spectrum Center, winning seven of the last 10. Charlotte is looking to reverse a four-game home losing streak this season.
