Vegas is a believer.
The SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas came out with its first stab at odds for the 2019-20 NBA champion, and only five squads are listed as bigger favorites than a team coming off a 17-65 disaster.
The Knicks open at 16/1 to hold the trophy next year, behind only the Warriors (7/4), Bucks (9/2), Celtics (7/1), 76ers (10/1) and Rockets (10/1). The Clippers — expected to be one of the Knicks’ chief rivals in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes — come in at 16/1, too. The Nets, a dark horse, are at 30/1.
As the rumors swirl around Durant, Vegas believes he’s Madison Square Garden bound. And Kyrie Irving could be joining him.
If the Knicks’ impossible dream comes to fruition, the Superbook would still have Giannis Antetokounmpo’s crew leading the way.
“I could see the [Knicks] at 12-1 [with Durant and Irving],” Jeff Sherman, vice president of risk at the SuperBook, told ESPN. “All we’re doing is making these odds based on today’s perception on where people think these guys might have a legitimate chance of going.”
