The Phoenix Suns win Game One, beating the Los Angeles Clippers 120-114

Mon 21st June 2021

The Phoenix Suns’ All-Star Devin Booker put up 40 points and Deandre Ayton tallied 20 points in the Phoenix Suns 120-114 win against the Los Angeles Clippers.

All Star Paul George and thriving point guard Reggie Jackson did everything they could for the Clippers, combining for 58 points. Ultimately it wasn’t enough, just falling short of a Game One victory in Phoenix.

The first quarter was an incredibly tight battle, with the scores tied and no team able to find an advantage. In the second period, with their fans behind them, the Suns were able to get their nose in front, taking a three point lead into the main break.

With Phoenix leading the ball game, LA dug deep to tie the matchup at the end of the third quarter. However, the home side kicked away in the last, outscoring the Clippers by six to win 120-114.

Six different Phoenix players, including all five starters, managed to score in double figures, with Deandre Ayton controlling the interior with 20 points, on 10-14 shooting, and nine rebounds. But the Suns won the game thanks to Devin Booker.

With Chris Paul out of the lineup, Booker became the leader and playmaker, finishing with a postseason high 11 assists, along with 13 rebounds and a massive 40 points, his first career triple double.

What an impressive one the first game was, with the Suns taking an early lead in the series. However, the series is just getting started and we still have a long way to go. The Suns still have home-court advantage, but they need to win game two to solidify that, and we know the Clippers will come out hard to try and level the series.
