NBA Daily Review Monday 11th of March
Fri 15th March 2019

Monday night was a night full of upsets that probably even the best NBA brain would have never predicted. The Cavaliers rout the Raptors by 25 points while the Clippers, the team that often breaks the hopes and dreams of giants clipped the Celtics winning streak short by giving them a 25 point loss.

Toronto Raptors vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Wow, just wow. I don’t think anyone expected the Cavaliers to rout the full strength Raptors like this. This is one of the many games lately where a tanking team defeated a NBA Finals favourite (with the Suns routing the warriors not long ago).

The Cavaliers last night showed that the future looks somewhat bright after the loss of LeBron James. Kevin Love who has been out all season and playing limited minutes is making a big impact on the Cavaliers both through team morale and rebounding. Colin Sexton is definitely the name to remember though as he’s averaged a whopping 27 points the last 3 games. The Rookie came into the season with a lot of criticism, so it’s great to show him ball out and be the future star that the cavaliers need.

The raptors on the other hand looked to be out of it and seem to be looking forward to the challenge of the playoffs already and won’t be hurt too much from this loss.

Cavaliers Win 126 – 101

Top Scorer: Colin Sexton – 28 Points

Top Assists: Cedi Osman – 7 Assists

Top Rebounds: Kevin Love – 18 Rebounds

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Utah Jazz

The game of the night did not disappoint. With playoff seeding in question, the Thunder secured themselves a crucial win to bring them a game behind the 3rd seed and 2 games behind the 2nd seed. The Jazz on the other hand fall into the 8th seed.

The bench was the biggest factor in this game for the Thunder with Schroder dropping 24 while Jae Crowder and Kyle Korver could not get going only making 6 of 16 shots for the game in total. Paul George was locked down by Joe Ingles, but Joe himself couldn’t make a huge statement like he did in the playoffs as he only made 1 of 7 shots from down town. His new role as a point forward though still seems to be the way to go as he provided plenty of dimes to his team mates.

It wasn’t the usual stars this time who was the player of the match, but rather Jerami Grant playing lock down defence on Donovan Mitchell, limiting him to 36% on the field and finishing with a +20 on the plus and minus box score.

Thunder Win 98 – 89

Top Scorer: Donovan Mitchell – 25 Points

Top Assists: TIED – 8, Joe Ingles & Russell Westbrook

Top Rebounds: Rudy Gobert – 12 Rebounds

Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Clippers

Both teams came into the game red-hot, with the Clippers winning their last 5 games and the Celtics winning their last 3 games. The Celtics seemed to have found new life on their Western road trip with an invigorated Kyrie Irving and a recent smack down of the current champions the Golden State Warriors.

The Clippers like they always do, play even better when presented with a challenge. With their recent trade of star Tobias Harris to the Sixers, everyone has basically written them off the playoff race but with big wins against the Lakers, Thunder and now Celtics they have basically all but secured their playoff spot.

Lou Williams was unstoppable, dropping 34 points in a limited 23 minutes. His hands were magic and he just stayed hot the whole game. Gallinari continued his stellar play scoring an efficient 25 points with 9 of 12 shooting.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, Kyrie was the black hole tonight as his defence was put to the test but faltered time and time. Both Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier was a highlight shooting extremely efficient 22 and 26, but as with the Celtics they still need to work out their defensive schemes.

Clippers Win 140 – 115

Top Scorer: Lou Williams – 34 Points

Top Assists: Kyrie Irving – 11 Assists

Top Rebounds: 7, TIED – Ivica Zubac & Jaylen Brown.
