Kyrie Irving Will Again Miss Friday’s Rematch With the Celtics

Kyrie Irving Will Again Miss Friday’s Rematch With the Celtics
Fri 29th November 2019

The Brooklyn Nets’ prized offseason acquisition will miss another crucial game, with the team announcing Thursday that the former Celtic will miss a second game in a row against his former team on Friday.

Irving has now missed eight games with a shoulder injury, and did not go on the Nets’ recent road trip which included a stop on Wednesday night at Boston’s TD Garden; Irving’s former home. Celtics fans made their feelings for Irving known loud and clear, sporting derogatory signs and loudly booing their old point guard.

Irving responded with a long, rambling Instagram post seemingly denouncing sports fandom in general.

The reasons for their displeasure are obvious. Irving announced in the fall of 2018 that he intended to re-sign long-term with the team in free agency. Instead, after a season full of controversy and underperformance, Irving signed with the Brooklyn Nets in the 2019 offseason along with Kevin Durant and DeAndre Jordan.

The Nets host the Miami Heat on Sunday night. Irving’s status for that game is unclear.
