Dion Waiters’ bizarre NBA season has gone from bad to worse, with the Miami Heat confirming on Sunday afternoon that the 27-year-old guard was suspended for 10 games due to “conduct detrimental to the team”.
Waiters reportedly suffered a panic attack on the team’s charter plan from Phoenix to Los Angeles after consuming a THC-infused edible.
He did not play on Friday night against the Lakers and received medical treatment when the plane landed. It was reportedly another Heat player who gave him the edible, but Waiters is staying quiet on who exactly the other player is.
Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Waiters will lose $834,483 in suspended pay and any chance of receiving a $1.2M bonus for playing 70+ games this season.
The former fourth-overall draft pick’s time in Miami has been tumultuous, after he was also disciplined earlier for this season for openly criticising coach Erik Spoelstra and a number of players on social media.
