The LA Clippers have officially waived guard Isaiah Thomas, Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said Saturday.
Thomas, 31, was acquired Thursday as part of a three-team trade with the Washington Wizards and New York Knicks. The move frees up a second roster spot for LA as it eyes a playoff run.
The Clippers have Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams and Landry Shamet who can play the same role the veteran Thomas, 30, would fill.
Thursday’s trade saw Marcus Morris and Thomas head to the Clippers, with Jerome Robinson joining the Wizards. In exchange, the Knicks received Moe Harkless and a 2020 first-round draft pick.
Thomas is averaging 12.2 points this season. For his career, he is averaging 18.1 points and 5.0 assists in 28.9 minutes across 525 games.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies announced on Sunday that they would be waiving former Heat / Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters.
Memphis acquired the guard as part of a three-team trade with the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday.
Waiters played only three games for the Heat following three suspensions this season, including one for taking cannabis-infused gummies on the team plane and needing emergency medical attention when that flight landed in Los Angeles.
Waiters, 28, averages 13.2 points on 41 percent shooting from the field for his career.
