In a devastating blow for Pelicans fans – and fans of basketball in general – it was confirmed today by New Orleans that their star number 1 draft pick will miss roughly the first two months of the season, after he underwent surgery on Monday to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.
The surgery was arthroscopic, and by all accounts went as successfully as possible, but this is still far from good news for Williamson and the Pelicans.
The blossoming star averaged 23.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game in four pre-season appearances, which statistically made him one of the more exciting prospects in recent memory.
Williamson also infamously sustained a knee sprain while playing at Duke after his shoe fell apart during a nationally-televised game against North Carolina.
More updates to come.
