Hot-hitting Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will be looking to extend his 13-game hitting streak as the Arizona Diamondbacks (29-20) face off against the Philadelphia Phillies (22-26) at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday with the visitors eyeing a sweep of the three-game series.
The Diamondbacks lead the series 2-0 after winning 4-3 on Tuesday. Jose Ruiz got the win with 0.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Miguel Castro picked up his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.
Gabriel Moreno was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs, walking twice, in the win. Corbin Carroll went 3 for 4 with two doubles and one RBI. Bryce Harper went 2 for 3 with a double and one run for the Phillies.
ON THE MOUND
Zac Gallen (6-2, 2.95 ERA) is set to start for Arizona. The right-hander is tied for the NL lead in wins and is third in strikeouts (72). Gallen allowed eight runs (five earned) over 3.2 innings in his last start, a 13-3 home defeat against the Pirates on Friday.
He was charged with the loss, yielding eight hits while striking out two and walking four. Gallen is making his first appearance against the Phillies this season. Over two starts against the Phillies in 2022, Gallen was 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA over 8.2 innings.
He had nine strikeouts and two walks. Left-hander Ranger Suarez (0-1, 10.50 ERA) will toe the rubber for Philadelphia. It’s his first appearance of the season against the Diamondbacks.
Suarez made two appearances against the Diamondbacks in 2022, both starts, striking out six and walking six over eight innings (0-1, 4.50). In his last start on Friday, Suarez took the loss at home against the Cubs. He threw two innings and gave up four runs on five hits, striking out four and walking three in the 10-1 defeat.
