The Miami Marlins (25-26) take one of the least productive lineups in the league on the road to face the Los Angeles Angels (28-23) at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Friday to open a three-game Interleague series.
The Marlins are kicking off the final series of their 10-game road trip. They won only one out of four in their last series against the Rockies, dropping the finale 7-6 on Thursday at Coors Field. Jonathan Davis was 3 for 3 with a triple and one run. Jorge Soler went 3 for 5 with a home run, two runs, and two RBIs.
The Angels are kicking off the final series of their nine-game homestand. They are coming off a three-game sweep of the Red Sox, taking the finale 7-3 on Wednesday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim for their fourth straight win. Zach Neto went 3 for 3 with a home run and a double. He scored two runs and drove in three.
The teams are meeting for the first time this season. In 2022, the Angels won three of the four games between the teams, although they split their most recent two-game series at loanDepot park in July.
ON THE MOUND
Jesus Luzardo (3-3, 3.83 ERA) is slated to start for Miami. The southpaw allowed six runs over five innings in his last start, a 7-5 home defeat against the Giants on Sunday. He took the loss, scattering six hits while striking out eight and walking one.
Luzardo made one start against the Angels in 2022, a 4-3 road loss on April 12. He surrendered one run on two hits over five innings, striking out 12 and walking one.
For Los Angeles, southpaw Reid Detmers (0-3, 4.87 ERA) gets the ball. In his last start on May 19, Detmers took a no-decision at home against the Twins. He threw 5.2 innings and gave up three runs on two hits, striking out 12 and walking three in the 5-4 win.

The second baseman is slashing .371/.422/.465 with one home run, 18 RBIs, and 17 runs over 46 games. Over the last five games, though, Miami has averaged 5.6 runs a game while slashing better across the board (.332/.376/.533).
Against lefties like Detmers this season, the Fish have a .786 OPS. Soler is the team’s most potent producer against left-handers with a 1.558 OPS in 37 at-bats. Los Angeles is slashing .260/.327/.425 for the season and averaging 4.9 runs per game.
Mike Trout leads the team with an .891 OPS. The center fielder has 12 home runs, 27 RBIs, and 33 runs scored with a slash line of .275/.364/.527.
Los Angeles is averaging only 3.8 runs per game in the last five with their on-base percentage dropping to .294. The Halos have a .795 OPS against left-handers in 2023. With a .857 OPS over 47 at-bats, Shohei Ohtani has been their best hitter against left-handers.

Miami is 11-15 away from loanDepot park in 2023, scoring 4.0 runs per game while allowing 4.9 runs. Los Angeles has won four in a row at home.
The Halos are 15-10 at home this season, averaging 5.2 runs per game while surrendering 5.0. Los Angeles is 6-2 in eight meetings at Angel Stadium of Anaheim with an average scoreline of 4.4-3.1.
STANDINGS UPDATE
The Marlins are second in the NL East, five games behind the division-leading Braves. The Angels are third in the AL West, four games behind the Rangers.
