Free MLB Picks Today for Wednesday, April 28th, 2021
Wed 28th April 2021

It’s another jam packed Wednesday of MLB action today, as all 30 teams take the field for the second day in a row!

Look below to find our free MLB Picks for the five best games on today’s schedule!

Minnesota Twins @ Cleveland Indians – 1.10PM ET

The Cleveland Indians will host the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday for the third game of their four match set, as the Indians are looking to claim a series victory.

As a result of their 7-4 victory on Tuesday, Cleveland have now won their last three games and take a 2-0 series lead over Minnesota heading into the third match of their set on Wednesday.

Josh Naylor and Franmil Reyes matched it with the Twins off their own bats, both crossing home plate twice respectively in the three run win.

Subsequently, the Twins have now lost their last four games, taking them to a 2-12 record from their last 14 outings.

Byron Buxton and Nelson Cruz continued their solid seasons with the bat, both scoring twice on Tuesday. However, Kent Maeda allowed eight hits and five earned runs in his 5.2 innings with the ball.

JA Happ will go to the mound for the Twins in this matchup, currently boasting a 1.69 ERA and 1-0 record this year. Happ’s inclusion should give Minnesota a big advantage with the ball, as Cleveland will be sending out Logan Allen on Wednesday. Allen was unable to get through 3 innings in his last start, currently with a 6.28 ERA to go along with his 1-3 overall record this season.

Cleveland have actually been heavily reliant on their pitching rotation this season, currently ranking 27th in the league for team batting average and 28th for OBP.

Ranking 11th for team batting average, 18th for runs scored and 19th for OBP this season, Minnesota clearly have the superior batting lineup compared to Cleveland. As well as that, the Twins have a massive advantage at the mound on Wednesday, with Happ taking the ball. We like Minnesota to bounce back in Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon, returning to the winners list.

Miami Marlins @ Milwaukee Brewers – 1.40PM ET

The Brewers and the Marlins wrap up their three game series in Milwaukee on Wednesday afternoon, with the ledger currently tied at 1-1.

In what was their second of seven consecutive games at home, Milwaukee won their most recent game against Miami 5-4 on Tuesday, after going down 0-8 in the series opener on Monday.

The Brewers coughed up four runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the eighth inning on Monday, while failing to record a run from their eight hits. Led by Tyrone Taylor, Milwaukee’s lineup found better form in Tuesday’s victory, recording five runs on 10 hits.

Taylor recorded three hits, three RBIs and a solo homer from his four at bats in the win.

As for the Marlins, Trevor Rogers struck-out seven Brewers batters in six scoreless innings at the mound on Monday, while Jesus Aguilar and Garrett Cooper scored twice as Miami piled on eight runs from their 11 hits.

In Tuesday’s game, Miami got out to an early lead but couldn’t hold it in the eventual 5-4 loss. Daniel Castano gave up six hits and three earned runs in 3.1 innings with the ball.

Marlins ace pitcher Sandy Alcantara will be given the ball on Wednesday. As it stands Alcantara has collected 32 strikeouts with a 3.34 ERA from five outings this year, having allowed 20 hits, 12 runs (11 earned), two homers and 11 walks in 29.2 innings this season.

Although the Brewers pitching staff ranks sixth in the league for team ERA with a 3.36 average, Milwaukee are yet to name a starting pitcher for Wednesday’s matchup.

Seeing as Alcantara has thrown 6+ innings in four of his five starts, and given up two or fewer runs in three of those appearances, we like the Marlins to win this matchup in Milwaukee.

Oakland Athletics @ Tampa Bay Rays – 7.10PM ET

After tying the series at 1-1 on Tuesday, Tampa Bay will host Oakland for the third time in as many days on Wednesday night.

The A’s won the opening game of their series in Florida on Monday, defeating the Rays 2-1. However, Tampa Bay evened the ledger at 1-1 on Tuesday with a 4-3 victory.

Although he only struck-out two Oakland batters, Michael Wacha allowed just one earned run in his five innings at the mound on Tuesday,  winning the matchup with Frankie Montas.

Between Montas and J.B Wendelken, the A’s gave up three earned runs in the sixth and seventh inning, handing Tampa Bay the lead and subsequently the victory on Tuesday night.

In what will be a solid pitching matchup, Cole Irvin will take the mound for the A’s on Wednesday with 17 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA through 21.0 innings this season.

While Rays ace Tyler Glasnow will take the ball for Tampa Bay. Glasnow has collected 46 strikeouts with a 2.05 ERA through 30.2 innings this season. Glasnow’s ERA slipped to 2.05 (still the 12th best in the league) after allowing five earned runs in Friday’s loss to Toronto. Prior to that, Glasnow had only allowed two earned runs in his first 24.2 innings this season

Although Irvin is a respectable pitcher in his own right, we like Glasnow to return to form after a very uncharacteristic performance in his last start, leading the Rays to a second consecutive win over the A’s in Tampa Bay.

Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers – 8.05PM ET

The Rangers and the Angels will wrap up their three match series in Texas on Wednesday.

After dropping their opening game against Los Angeles 4-9 on Monday, Texas returned to the winners list with a 6-1 victory on Tuesday.

Nick Solak was the star with the bat, recording three hits, three runs and two RBIs from four at bats in the victory. Mike Foltynewicz allowed just one earned run in 5.1 innings with the ball, while John King, Joely Rodriguez and Brett Martin rounded out the rotation by allowing two hits combined.

Subsequently, Los Angeles lost their most recent clash against Texas, after defeating the Rangers 9-4 on Monday. Shohei Ohtani made history during Monday’s victory, becoming the first player in almost 100 years to start a game as a pitcher while also entering the day with the most home runs in the league.

After scoring his first run before taking the mound, Ohtani struggled with the ball early, giving up four runs in the first inning. However, the right hander settled down after that, striking out nine Rangers batters over five innings. With the bat, Ohtani finished with three runs, two hits and two RBIs from his three at bats.

Texas will have the advantage at the mound on Wednesday, with Dane Dunning entering the game with a 1-0 record and 3.06 ERA to go along with 18 strikeouts this season. While Alex Cobb is getting the ball for Los Angeles with a 1-1 record, 6.28 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. Cobb has had a rough start to the season, allowing 10 earned runs in 14.1 innings.

As neither side has been in great form recently, we’re taking the Rangers at home with underdog odds in this matchup, especially when considering that Dane Dunning gives Texas the advantage at the mound.

Seattle Mariners @ Houston Astros – 8.10PM ET

Currently halfway through their four game series, the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros will face off again on Wednesday night.

As a result of their win on Tuesday, Houston are now above .500 for the first time since their bout with COVID-19. The Astros won Monday’s game against Seattle 5-2, before winning Tuesday’s encounter 2-0.

Alex Bergman scored in both Monday and Tuesday’s games, continuing his solid form since returning from COVID. However, Cristian Javier’s seven scoreless innings with the ball in Tuesday’s shutout victory was the key to Houston’s mosr recent win. Javier allowed just two hits for zero runs on Tuesday, while also striking out six Mariners batters.

As a result, Seattle will enter Wednesday’s matchup having dropped their past three games. The Mariners lost Sunday’s game against the Red Sox 3-5, before being outscored 2-7 in their opening two games against the Astros in Houston.

Currently a bottom 10 team in the league when looking at team batting average, Seattle’s 0-2 loss on Tuesday was their fourth shutout defeat of the season.

37 year old Zack Greinke will start for Houston on Wednesday with a 2.76 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season. While Justin Dunn enters with a 3.68 ERA and 14 strikeouts for the Mariners this year.

As they are at home and look to have fully recovered from their COVID-19 outbreak, we like the Astros to wrap up a series victory in Houston on Wednesday. Especially with Greinke giving Houston an advantage at the mound over the inexperienced Dunn.
