New York Mets @ Boston Red Sox – 7.10PM ET

The Boston Red Sox put their five-game winning streak on the line when they host the New York Mets this evening, in what is the first of three games played between the two sides this week. The Mets have already cost themselves a shot at the postseason while Boston is marginally ahead in the fight for the American League Wild Card slots.

Katherine Mouradian

The Mets and Red Sox kick off a quick two game series as the end of the regular season is fast approaching. The Mets are coming off a 1-2 series loss to the Phillies and the Red Sox are coming off a 3-0 series win against the Orioles. Looking at some of the key stats for the Mets now, they have won seven of their previous 10 interleague games and they have won 14 of their previous 18 games after they have had a day off.

Over to the Red Sox now, they have won all five of their previous games in total, and they have won all five of their previous games on grass. The Mets have struggled a bit on the offensive side of things this season, and when you look at how powerful the batters have been for the Red Sox, this could cause a bit of a problem. The Red Sox’s pitching might be a bit shaky, but their offense will get them over the line here.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox (-144)

Mike Su

The 73-win Mets play the 86-win Red Sox in a crucial game for the Red Sox. The Mets technically have a chance to make the playoffs as the division leader of the NL East, but sitting 6 games back with just a handful of games means they are likely out of the race. The Red Sox on the other hand are holding onto the first Wild Card Spot as the Blue Jays, Yankees and Athletics fight for their chances to make the playoffs. In this short 2 game series, the Red Sox will try their best to extend their 1.5 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays and lock in their Wild Card spot.

In this game the Red Sox will be starting Eduardo Rodriguez at pitcher. Rodriguez has been bad this season statistically with a 5.00 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. Despite his struggles, Rodriguez still has a winning record with a 11-8 record this season. He will be going up against Marcus Stroman who has been worlds better than Rodriguez. Stroman has a 2.88 ERA and 1.12 WHIP, but despite his great pitching, he has led the Mets to a 9-12 record. This will be a closer match than most people think but the Red Sox should pull out the win here.

Mike’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox (-144)

Toronto Blue Jays @ Tampa Bay Rays – 7.10PM ET

This Tuesday evening clash between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays will be the second of a three game series. The first game was played on Monday, and the Rays were good enough to get the win at home, 6-4.

Katherine Mouradian

The Rays have got the win in the book, after losing two games in a row in their previous series to the Tigers, which confused a lot of people. Despite losing the first game, the Blue Jays will take confidence that they won the series with the Rays about a week ago, 2-1. Let’s look into some of the key stats for this matchup. The Blue Jays have won nine of their previous 10 games on the road, and they have won four of their previous five when it comes to the second game of the series.

Over to the Rays now, they have won 40 of their previous 56 games played at home and have won all of their previous six games played on a Tuesday. It’s hard to not back the Blue Jays, especially considering the price and how well they have been playing, but I’m going to have to go with the Rays. They have won the first game, they are playing at home, and they’ve got Rasmussen on the mound, which looks like the trifecta for me.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays (-120)

Mike Su

The Blue Jays play the Rays once again after a 6-4 loss in the first game of the series. The Blue Jays are now just half a game ahead of the Yankees in the Wild Card race, and are facing the possibility of not making the playoffs. If the Blue Jays can’t pull off a win here, it will be devastating for their playoff chances. The Blue Jays will be leaning on the prolific Alex Manoah to pitch in this game. Manoah has been great with a 3.39 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 93 innings, leading to a 6-2 record. Manoah has been strong this season against the Rays.

In his 3 games against the Rays, Manoah has had 29 strikeouts and allowed just 3 runs in 18 innings. This is phenomenal considering the Rays are a top 2 batting unit. On the other side, the Rays are starting Drew Rasmussen. Rasmussen has been even better statistically than Manoah this season with a 3-0 record, 2.57 ERA and 1.04 HIP in 49 innings. His lack of playing time is a worry but Rasmussen has continually played well when given the chance. I think this game will be extremely close and despite the fact that both teams are top 3 batting teams in the league, I have a feeling due to some phenomenal pitching we hit the unders.

Mike’s MLB Pick: Under 8 (-114)

St Louis Cardinals @ Milwaukee Brewers – 7.40PM ET

This Tuesday evening clash between the St Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers will be the second of a four game series. The first game was played on Monday and the Cardinals managed to draw first blood, winning 5-2.

Katherine Mouradian

It’s like the Cardinals just don’t know how to lose anymore! They have now won 11 out of their previous 12, and nine games in a row. While the Brewers are officially confirmed to have a playoff spot, the Cardinals are still fighting it out for a NL Wild Card position. The stats just keep getting better if you are a Cardinals fan, they have won six of their previous eight when it comes to the second game of a series, and they have won 14 of their previous 19 games on the road.

Looking over to the Brewers now, they have won 10 of their previous 12 when it comes to the second game of the series, and they have won six of their previous seven games on a Tuesday. This one is a tough one to pick, especially the moneyline, so I’m looking elsewhere. I think the over is the way to go. The over has hit in four of their Cardinals previous six games overall, in six of the Brewers previous eight games played at home, and in four of the six previous meetings between these two teams. The over was just one run away from being hit in the previous match.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: Over 7.5 (-115)

Mike Su

After a definitive Cardinals win, the Brewers now look to bounce back as they head into the playoffs. The Cardinals are in the midst of a 9 game winning streak and have been playing their best baseball down the stretch as they fight for a Wild Card spot. Their stellar play has to continue as they hold just a 3 game lead over the Phillies for the final Wild Card spot. However, the Cardinals may face some tough competition in this game as the Brewers will want to avenge an embarrassing loss at home.

The Brewers will be starting Brandon Woodruff to lead the charge. Woodruff has been a monster this season and is one of the best pitchers in the league this season. Woodruff has a 2.55 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 198 strikeouts in 169 innings. Woodruff will destroy the Cardinals’ 24th ranked batting unit. The Cardinals will be starting Jake Woodford. Woodford has just a 4.3 ERA and 1.39 WHIP leading to a 2-3 record. To make matters worse for Woodford, he will be facing a top 10 offense. I think the Brewers win this in definitive fashion.

Mike’s MLB Pick: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (-111)

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Colorado Rockies – 8.40PM ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue their road-trip, this time facing off against NL West rivals, the Colorado Rockies. While the Rockies have been eliminated from postseason contention, the Dodgers sit just one game back from the NL West lead and will want to start this three-game series off on the right note.

Katherine Mouradian

This game kicks off a three game series between the Dodgers and the Rockies. The Dodgers are oh so close to kicking the Giants off the top spot in the NL West, just one game behind. While the Rockies are out of playoff contention, they have been playing pretty well as of late, and have won seven of their previous nine overall. Let’s have a look at some of the important stats for this game now. The Rockies have won just one of their previous five when playing against a team in the NL West, and they have won none of their previous four games when they are playing at home and are the underdogs.

Over to the Dodgers now, they have won 37 of their previous 51 games in total, and they have won nine of their previous 12 when it comes to the first games of a series. While the Rockies have been putting in a few good performances as of late, it is a high new level they will have to climb to in order to beat a team like the Dodgers. The Dodgers have also won five of their previous six games played here at Coors Field. I’ll be on the Dodgers to cover the spread.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-134)

Mike Su

The Dodgers sit just 1 game behind the Giants for the lead in the National League and the NL West division. This one game gap will make a world of difference as they go into the playoffs and the Dodgers know this. Despite playing the lowly 70-win Rockies, the Dodgers are starting Julio Urias. Urias is one of the best in the league and has one of the best records in the league. Urias has a 2.99 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 18-3 record this season and has been a superstar.

Urias faces a unit that is in the middle of the league and he should dominate them. The Rockies will be starting Antonio Senzatela. Senzatela has been decent with a 4.06 ERA and 1.29 WHIP this season but a poor 4-9 record. He will be facing one of the best batting teams in the league and will likely get burnt. The Dodgers should win this key game behind an impressive game from Urias and dominating performance by the batting unit.

Mike’s MLB Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-134)

San Francisco Giants @ San Diego Padres – 10.10PM ET

After getting swept by the Cardinals over the weekend, the San Diego Padres return home to host the league-leading San Francisco Giants in a three game series this week. These sides faced each other in San Francisco last week and split a four game series, giving the Padres some confidence they could cause the upset here.

Katherine Mouradian

Both teams have serious battles on their hands, the Giants are fighting off the Dodgers, who are now just one game behind them for the top spot in the NL West, and the Padres are fighting to make it to the postseason, by claiming the final Wild Card spot in the NL. At a time like this, it’s important to check out the key stats! The Giants have won 39 of their previous 54 games on the road, and they have won 19 of their previous 26 after they have had a day off.

Looking at the Padres now, they have won five of their previous 20 games against a team in the NL West, and they have won two of their previous eight games against a right handed starter. The Padres have been slipping down in the rankings thanks to some really tough opposition in the Giants and the Dodgers as of late. I think this game will spell more misery for the Padres again. The Giants have more to play for, and with the injuries the Padres have at the moment, I’ll be on the Giants to cover the spread.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+155)

Mike Su

The Giants are coming off a shutout loss to the Braves in an embarrassing home loss that puts them just 1 game ahead of the Dodgers for the 1st seed in the National League and the NL West division lead. The Giants will be facing a formidable Padres team which is fighting desperately to make the playoffs as they sit 4 games behind the Cardinals for the last Wild Card spot. Both teams will be playing their hearts out.

However the Giants will likely win due to a dominating performance from starting pitcher Kevin Gausman. Gausman is a top 10 pitcher with a 2.78 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 208 strikeouts in just 175 innings. Gausman will be looking to bounce back after a bad performance against the Padres in his last game pitching. Gausman allowed 4 runs in 5 innings, which was the difference in that game. I think Gausman and the Giants bounce back and destroy the Padres, as they have so much to lose. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Padres somehow pulled out a tight win.

Mike’s MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+155)
