New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays – 7.07PM ET

A pair of AL East rivals will kick off their three game series on Tuesday night when the Blue Jays host the Yankees.

As a result of their loss on Monday, Toronto finished a tough seven game road trip against the White Sox and Red Sox with a 3-4 record. The Blue Jays missed out on the opportunity to cap off a series victory on the road against a divisional rival, going down 1-2 against Boston in their most recent outing.

As for the Yankees, they will be looking to bounce back to form after being swept by the Phillies in Philadelphia in their three game series on the road. New York were outscored 12-22 in the three losses.

Jordan Montgomery will look to return the Yankees to the winners list when he makes his 13th start of the season. Montgomery has a 3-1 record, 3.99 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 65 strikeouts from 65.1 innings of work this year. The southpaw held the Twins to three runs in 5.2 innings in his last start, finishing with a no-decision in a clash that the Yankees won.

Hyun-Jin Ryu will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat when he takes the mound for his 13th start of the season. Ryu is 5-4 this year to go along with a 3.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 62 strikeouts from 70 innings this season. The lefty has held the Yankees to three runs (two earned) in 12 innings this year.

Considering that Toronto’s offense has scored 5+ runs in four of their past six games for a total of 39 runs in that span, we like the Blue Jays to win this match at home on Tuesday. Led by Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Toronto’s offense are scoring 5.09 runs per contest. Bichette leads the majors with 56 runs scored this season while Guerrero leads MLB in home runs (21), RBIs (55), OBP (.450) slugging (.688), and his .344 batting average is second among qualified hitters. As well as that, Jordan Montgomery owns a terrible 5.52 ERA on the road this year and Hyun-Jin Ryu has held the Yankees to just three runs (two earned) on eight hits in 12 innings in two starts (both wins) against New York this season.

Chicago Cubs @ New York Mets – 7.10PM ET

A pair of first placed teams in the National League will go toe to toe for the second match of their three game series in New York on Tuesday, as the Mets continue to host the Cubs.

New York improved to a 3-1 record after their fourth of seven home games as a result of their 5-2 victory over the Cubs in Monday’s series opener. Highlighted by Dominic Smith’ solo homer at the bottom of the fourth, the Mets broke out to an insurmountable 5-0 lead by the bottom of the seventh innings.

David Peterson set the game up for New York with the ball, throwing six scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. Jake Arrieta took the loss for the Cubs, allowing four earned runs on four hits in five innings with the ball.

Alec Mills will make his second start (14th appearance) of the season for Chicago on Tuesday. Mills is 2-0 with a 6.08 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 15 strikeouts over 23.2 innings of work this year. In his one start this season, Mills threw four innings and allowed two runs on two hits in a game the Cubs went on to win 3-2 on the 13th of April.

New York will send Taijuan Walker to the mound for his 10th start of the season in this contest. Walker has a 5-2 record, 2.07 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 60 strikeouts over 61 innings of work this year. In his last three starts, Walker is 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 19 strikeouts across 17 innings.

Alongside Jacob deGrom and Marcus Stroman, Taijuan Walker has been one of the key pitchers behind the Mets second ranked pitching staff, who own a 3.16 team ERA. Although New York has struggled with offensive consistency, we are going to pick Walker to lead the Mets to a win in the second game of this series. Especially when considering that New York are scoring seven runs per game across their last six contests and they will be coming up against a struggling and inexperienced Alec Mills.

Boston Red Sox @ Atlanta Braves – 7.20PM ET

The Red Sox and Braves will kick off their short two game set in Atlanta on Tuesday night.

Boston recently brought an end to an eight game stretch of home games with a 4-4 record. The Red Sox salvaged a .500 record from not only their stretch of home games but also their four game series against the Blue Jays thanks to their 2-1 victory on Monday.

As for Atlanta, they recently avoided being swept by the Marlins in Miami after winning the final match of their three game series 4-6. The Braves were outscored 11-12 across the weekend.

Tucker Davidson will make his fourth start of the season for the Braves on Tuesday. Although his three matches this season have all ended in no-decisions, Davidson owns a 1.52 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 14 strikeouts across 17.2 innings of action. The southpaw has not allowed an earned run in his last two starts.

Boston will counter Eduardo Rodriguez on Tuesday. Rodriguez is 5-4 from 12 starts this year to go along with a 6.03 ERA, 1.45 ERA and 70 strikeouts from 62.2 innings. Since getting off to a 5-0 start to the season, Rodriguez has dropped his last four decisions.

Given that Tucker Davidson has only given up three earned runs in 17.2 innings this season and Ronald Acuna Jr. is listed as probable for the match, we are going to take the Braves at home in this matchup. Especially when considering that Eduardo Rodriguez is 0-4 with an 8.49 ERA in his last six starts. As well as that, the Braves should be fresh after having a day off on Monday which will give their bullpen some much needed rest.

San Diego Padres @ Colorado Rockies – 8.40PM ET

A pair of NL West rivals will continue their three games series in Colorado on Tuesday night when the Rockies host the Padres.

San Diego have continued to slide down the NL West standings after dropping their series opener against the Rockies in Colorado on Monday. The Padres now have an 4-11 record from their past 15 games.

Colorado won Monday’s clash 3-2 largely thanks to C.J Cron’s solo home run at the bottom of the seventh. Austin Gomber took the win with the ball for Colorado, throwing eight scoreless innings in the victory.

Chi Chi Gonzalez will make his ninth start (13th appearance) of the season for Colorado on Tuesday night. Gonzalez is 2-4 this year with a 5.74 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 31 strikeouts from 53.1 innings. The right hander is coming off a fairly poor appearance in his last start, having given up eight earned runs on 11 hits in five innings against Miami.

There are no excuses for the Padres on Tuesday night as they prepare to send ace Yu Darvish to the mound for this contest. Darvish is 6-2 from 13 starts this year to go along with a 2.28 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 92 strikeouts from 79 innings of work. The veteran right hander has allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits in his last three starts, throwing 17.1 innings in that time.

Although the Rockies have an impressive 21-14 record at home and the Padres have recently been struggling for form, we can’t go past San Diego to tie this series up on Tuesday with Darvish at the mound. As well as that, Chi Chi Gonzalez is coming off a poor last start, which will be the perfect opportunity for the Padres struggling offense to regain some form on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles Angels @ Oakland Athletics – 9.40PM ET

The Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics will close out our Tuesday night MLB schedule when the two AL West rivals meet for the second match of their three game series.

As a result of their loss on Monday, the Angels had their six game winning streak snapped by the division leading A’s. Oakland were victorious in the series opener, winning the match 8-5.

Sean Murphy got the A’s off to a good start in the second innings on Monday, clubbing a two run homer to give Oakland a lead which they did not relinquish for the remainder of the match.

The A’s will look to wrap up the series with a victory on Tuesday when they send Frankie Montas to the mound for his 14th start of the year. Montas has a 6-6 record, 4.37 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 73 strikeouts from 70 innings of work this season. In his last three starts, the right hander has a 1-2 record and has allowed just five earned runs on 17 hits in 17 innings.

The Angels will counter with Andrew Heaney at the mound on Tuesday. Heaney is 4-2 from his 11 starts this year to go along with a 4.37 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 69 strikeouts from 57.2 innings of action. The southpaw has allowed five earned runs in his last three starts, throwing 18.2 innings in that time.

Although they are on the road, we are going to take the Angels to win game two of this series. Prior to Monday’s loss, Los Angeles had won six consecutive games and their lineup had scored 7.6 runs per contest in that winning streak. As well as that, Heaney has looked solid recently, posting a 1.38 ERA over his last two starts while striking out 14 batters in that time.
