New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles – 6.35PM ET

The 9-12 Baltimore Orioles will host the 9-12 New York Yankees on Monday evening, with the loser of this matchup claiming the unwanted fifth position in the AL East division.

In the first match of their four game series, Baltimore won 4-2 at home on Monday, giving the Orioles their six consecutive win when scoring four runs or more.

Cedric Mullins recorded another three hits in Monday’s game, increasing his total for the season to 31 and placing him in the top five batters in the league when looking at hits. Mullins also scored twice in the victory, while Matt Harvey allowed just one earned run in his six innings at the mound.

Subsequently, the Yankees were two run losers in their most recent outing, as their lineup once again failed to put up a respectable score. New York have now scored three runs or fewer in eight of their past 10 games.

Although he has a 2.92 career ERA against the Orioles, Corey Kluber will get the ball in this encounter with a 5.40 ERA in 2021. Monday’s game will be Bruce Zimmerman’s sixth career MLB start, making Kluber the more experienced pitcher in this matchup, which should see the Yankees favored.

However, Baltimore’s offense shown some life this season, which is more than what can be said for New York. Combined with the fact that the Orioles are at home, we can’t rationalise picking the Yankees lacklustre lineup on the road in this encounter.

Boston Red Sox @ New York Mets – 7.05PM ET

The top side in the AL East will face the top side in the NL East when the Red Sox head to New York to face the Mets on Tuesday night.

Boston will enter Thursday’s clash having recently split their four game series against Seattle at Fenway Park. The Mariners were leading two games to one heading into Sunday’s matchup, before the Red Sox tied the series with a 5-3 victory.

J.D. Martinez and Enrique Hernandez both passed home plate twice, combining for four runs in the two run victory. While Eduardo Rodriguez improved to 4-0 for the season after giving up three earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in his seven innings at the mound.

As for the Mets, they will also be looking to build on a win in their last outing, having defeated the Nationals 4-0 in New York on Sunday, capturing a 2-1 series victory.

J.D Davis and Pete Alonso both scored twice in the win, however Taijuan Walker’s seven scoreless innings with the ball set up the Mets victory.

Garrett Richardson will be taking the ball for Boston and David Peterson will be taking the ball for New York, both of whom are currently boasting +6 ERA’s so far this season.

With neither side promoting much talent at the mound, we believe this will be a high scoring encounter, with the more dominant lineup ultimately prevailing.

As Boston are the No. 1 ranked scoring club in the league, hitting at a league high .276 team batting average with a league high 119 runs from 213 hits, we believe their superior lineup will get the better of  David Peterson early in this encounter, putting the game out of reach for New York.

Chicago Cubs @ Atlanta Braves – 7.20PM ET

Two below .500 teams out of the National League will look to improve their records on Monday night, when the Atlanta Braves host the Chicago Cubs for the second match of their four game set.

As a result of the Braves 8-7 victory on Monday, Atlanta and Chicago will enter Tuesday’s encounter with mirroring 10-12 records this season.

Ronald Acuna Jr recorded his first run after returning from an abdominal strain, while Freddie Freeman recorded two runs, one hit and three RBIs from four at bats on Monday.

Willson Contreras scored twice for the Cubs, however Zach Davies allowing six hits, five earned runs and four walks in 3.2 innings at the mound proved to be the costly difference in Monday’s game.

As well as their mirroring 10-12 win-loss records, the Cubs (.213) and the Braves (.215) are hitting at almost identical team batting averages, separated by just .02. Both sides have also scored 99 runs respectively this season.

With almost identical offenses, the superior performer at the mound will likely steer their team to a win.

Atlanta are sending Ian Anderson out with the ball on Tuesday. Anderson has given up 19 hits, eight earned runs, three homers and 11 walks to go along with 23 strikeouts at a  3.27 ERA from 22.0 innings this season. While Trevor Williams will take the mound for Chicago, having allowed 21 hits, 10 earned runs, one homer and eight walks this year, to go along with 19 strikeouts at a 4.66 ERA in 19.1 innings.

Given that these two sides are fairly evenly matched and the game is in Atlanta, we like the Braves to make it two from two against the Cubs on Tuesday, led by a strong performance at the mound from Ian Anderson.

Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox – 8.10PM ET

The White Sox will continue their stretch of nine consecutive games at home on Tuesday, hosting the Detroit Tigers for the first match of their three game series.

Tuesday will be the White Sox fourth of nine straight games in Chicago, as they look to build on their 3-0 start to this stretch at home.

Chicago defeated the Rangers 8-4 in their last outing on Sunday, completing a three game series sweep over Texas. Nick Madrigal scored twice for the White Sox, while Michael Kopech struck-out 10 Rangers batters in five innings at the mound, which only yielded four hits and one run.

As for Detroit, they will be coming into Tuesday’s matchup with the worst record in baseball, currently boasting a .304 winning percentage. The Tigers have lost 10 of their last 11 games, including two five-game losing streaks, one of which they are on now.

Detroit outhit Kansas City 9-8 in their most recent loss, however failed to capitalise on their scoring positions, going down 2-3.

Even though he was poor in his last outing, opposing batters are hitting at just .230 against Lucas Giolito this season. Giolito gave up seven earned on eight hits in just one innings in his last game, ballooning his ERA from 2.55 to 5.79.

Seeing as the White Sox are hitting at a .261 team batting average (second in the league) with 108 runs scored this season (fifth in the league) and Lucas Giolito is coming off an un-Giolito performance in his last game, we like the White Sox to make easy work out of the struggling Tigers on Tuesday, making it four from four at home.

San Diego Padres @ Arizona Diamondbacks – 9.40PM ET

The Arizona Diamondbacks will host the San Diego Padres in the final game of our Tuesday schedule, in a game between two NL West division rivals.

The Padres will take a lot of confidence out of their 8-7 comeback victory over the Dodgers on Sunday. San Diego scored two runs in the eighth inning and two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game at 7-7, before Eric Hosmer skied a flyball in the 11th, to bring Fernandos Tatis Jr home for his fourth run of the night, which proved to be the winner.

The victory gave San Diego a 4-3 record over the reigning World Series Champions to start the 2021 season, as the Padres are just 9-8 against non-Dodgers teams.

As for the Diamondbacks, they will be looking to keep their good form going, having shutout the Braves in both matches of Sunday’s doubleheader, defeating Atlanta by a combined 12-0 score.

Zac Gallen allowed just one hit and zero runs in the first seven inning game, before Madison Bumgarner threw a seven inning no hitter in the second game of Sunday’s double header.

Merrill Kelly is expected to take the ball for Arizona with a 7.71 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season. While Chris Paddack is expected to get the start on the mound for San Diego with a 3.50 ERA and 17 strikeouts this year. However, Paddock has allowed 14 runs over 18 innings, only seven of which were earned runs, making his ERA more flattering.

Given that Arizona are 6-1 in their last seven games and 4-1 in their last 6 games against teams with a winning record, we like the in-form Diamondbacks to win this one at home against the Padres, who admittedly have struggled against non-Dodgers teams in 2021.
