Free MLB Picks Today for Thursday, May 27th, 2021
Thu 27th May 2021

After a rainy Wednesday postponed both games in New York, the Mets and Yankees will both host double headers on this busy Thursday of Major League Baseball action!

Look below to find our free MLB Picks for the five best games on today’s schedule!

Colorado Rockies @ New York Mets – 12.10PM ET

As a result of a rain delay postponing their game on Wednesday, the Rockies and Mets will kick off our Thursday MLB schedule with the first game of a double header and the third match of their three game series.

Colorado won Monday’s series opener 3-2 before New York tied things up with a 3-1 victory of their own heading into Thursday’s double header. It is worth mentioning that Monday was the Rockies 20th game on the road so far this season and just their third victory outside of Colorado.

German Marquez will make his 11th start of the season for the Rockies on Thursday. Marquez has a 3-4 record to go along with a 4.82 ERA this year. However in his last three starts, Marquez has thrown 6+ innings in each appearance and recorded an impressive  2.36 ERA during that time.

The Mets will counter by sending Marcus Stroman to the mound for his 10th start of the year. Stroman has a 3-4 overall record to go along with a 2.75 ERA and 1.07 WHIP this season. The right-hander has completed 6+ innings in six of his nine starts and has recorded quality starts in two of his last three starts.

Although New York’s offense has been in a lull as of late (scoring just seven runs in their last four starts), we like Stroman to lead the Mets to a win at home. Stroman has given up two earned runs or fewer in seven of his nine outings this year and he will be supported by the third ranked pitching staff in the league (3.19 team ERA). Colorado have been atrocious on the road this season and their 25th ranked pitching staff (4.78 ERA) will likely leak enough runs to see the Mets secure a win at home on Thursday.

Chicago Cubs @ Pittsburgh Pirates – 12.35PM ET

The Cubs and Pirates will wrap up their three game series in Pittsburgh on Thursday, with Chicago looking to complete a rare sweep on the road against their NL Central rivals.

As a result of Wednesday’s 4-1 victory, the Cubs took a 2-0 lead over their division rivals heading into the third and final game of their head to head set on Thursday.

David Bote hit a two run homer at the top of the second to set up the lead on Wednesday, while Trevor Williams allowed just one run on three hits in six innings with the ball.

Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks will take the mound on Thursday. Hendricks is 4-4 from his nine starts this season with a 4.74 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 42 strikeouts across 49.1 innings, however, the right hander has been in solid form in May. In his last three starts, Hendricks is 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 15 strikeouts over 19.2 innings.

Tyler Anderson will make his 10th start for the Pirates this year, as he looks to help Pittsburgh avoid a series sweep at home. Similarly to Hendrick, Anderson is 3-4 with a 4.73 ERA, 1.227 WHIP and 51 strikeouts across 51.1 innings this year, however Anderson and Hendricks have recently had starkly contrasting performances. Anderson has a 1-1 record, 7.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 20 strikeouts over 18 innings in his last three starts.

In the Cubs last 12 games, they have nine wins and nine scores of four runs or greater. Given their form and the advantage that Hendricks will be giving them at the mound, we like Chicago to cap off a series sweep on the road on Thursday. Especially when considering that the Cubs are coming up against a Pirates team that has lost eight of their past 10 games and will be starting an out of form Tyler Anderson, who has given up 13 earned runs in his last two starts.

Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees – 4.05PM ET

Following the postponement of Wednesday’s game, the Blue Jays and Yankees will conclude their three game series in New York with a Thursday double header.

As a result of their 6-2 victory on Tuesday, Toronto took a 1-0 lead in this series between division rivals. Vladmir Guerrero Jr. batted at .500 with a home run and two RBIs in the victory. Toronto now has 68 home runs for the year, which is the third most in baseball.

New York’s Domingo German will look to tie the series at 1-1 on Wednesday when he make his ninth start for the year. German is 4-2 with a 3.05 ERA and 1.11 WHIP this season. The right-hander allowed six hits in seven scoreless innings in his last start.

Toronto will debut 6’6, 23-year-old right-hander, Alek Manoah on Wednesday. Manoah is the No. 97th overall rated prospect according to MLB Pipeline and he will be supported by the Blue Jays 15th ranked pitching staff, who currently have a 3.97 team ERA.

With a  3-0 record and 0.50 ERA from his three AAA starts this year, Alek Manoah and Toronto’s superior lineup should keep this game close. However, New York are at home and have the better and more experienced pitching staff in this matchup.

Tuesday’s loss snapped a six game winning streak for New York, while the result also snapped Toronto’s six game losing streak. Three and a half games separates the two teams in the AL East standings and we like the third placed Yankees to tie this series at 1-1 with a win at home over the fourth placed Blue Jays.

Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox – 8.10PM ET

The Baltimore Orioles are headed to Chicago to kick off a four game series against the White Sox.

Although they lost Wednesday’s game against St Louis 0-4, Chicago took a 2-1 series victory from their set against the Cardinals. The White Sox won Monday’s opener 5-1 and Tuesday’s game two 8-3 .

After being shutout on Wednesday, Chicago will be looking to return to some form offensively. The White Sox lineup is the third-ranked run-scoring offense in the league and prior to Tuesday’s loss, Chicago’s offense had scored 17 runs in their past three outings.

Baltimore will enter Thursday’s matchup with a nine game losing streak behind him. In that time, the Orioles were swept in three consecutive series against the Rays, Nationals and most recently the Twins.

Bruce Zimmerman will look to snap the O’s losing streak when he makes his eighth start of the year. Zimmerman is 2-3 with a 5.59 ERA and 1.55 WHIP this season. Baltimore will need a super performance from Zimmerman on Wednesday, as the O’s pitching rotation has allowed the third most hits and fifth most run in baseball this year.

Dylan Cease will make his 10th start of the year on Wednesday. Although he is coming off his worst performance of the season, Cease is 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 2021. In his last outing, Cease gave up five earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.

Seeing as Chicago’s lineup will be looking to respond from a shutout loss, we like the White Sox to get on top of the struggling Zimmerman at home on Thursday. Especially when considering that the Orioles pitching rotation has allowed the third most hits and fifth most run this season. Given that Dylan Cease will also be looking to return to form after a poor performance in his last start,  all signs are pointing to a big White Sox win at home on Thursday.

Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners – 10.10PM ET

The Rangers and Mariners will kick off their four game series in Seattle on Thursday, as the AL West rivals are both looking to bounce back from a loss in their most recent outing.

Although Seattle suffered a three run loss to the A’s in Oakland on Wednesday, the Mariners took a 2-1 series victory from their three games against the AL West division leaders.

As for the Rangers they recently dropped each of their two games against the Angels in Los Angeles. Texas were outscored 13-20 in the two game series and they are now dead last in the AL West, one game behind the fourth placed Angels.

As they currently have two of their starting pitchers on the IL, Texas will send Kolby Allard to the mound for his first start and 10th appearance this year. Allard has a 1-0 record, 3.15 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 23 strikeouts from 20 innings of work this year. The southpaw has thrown less than two innings in his last three outings.

Seattle’s Chad Flexen will make his ninth start of the season on Thursday. After a respectable start to the season, Flexen has been awful in his last three appearances, allowing 13 runs on 25 hits in 13.2 innings with the ball. The right hander is now 4-2 with a 5.09 ERA.

As neither team will be coming into this matchup with much form behind them, we are going to take Seattle at home in this matchup. The Mariners are fresh off a series victory against the division leading A’s and although Flexen has been in average form in his last three starts, he is much more experienced than Kolby Allard and should be able to steer Seattle to a win at home.
