Tampa Bay Rays @ Houston Astros – 7:15PM ET

Tony Battalio

Tampa Bay has been struggling since coming out of the All-Star break and they will be looking to turn things around throughout the weekend against the defending World Series champions. They got off to a historic start this season as they went double digit games without a loss to open up the 2023 Major League Baseball season. However, baseball is a sport that if you peek at the wrong time it could cost you a championship and a lot of Tampa Bay fans are hoping that this team did not peak in April. They will desperately need to get back on track otherwise they may not have a chance to recover if the Baltimore Orioles catch fire in the American League East division.

The defending World Series champions had an opposite situation arise for them when the season started. As they started off the season sluggish, but they have heated up as the season has progressed. They are hot on the heels of the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West division, and they currently occupy one of the top three wild card spots in the American League as well. They will be looking to grab a victory in the second game of the series to keep pace with the Texas Rangers as they try to chase down the leaders in the American League West division. However, I don’t quite see that happening in this game as I have the Tampa Bay Rays grabbing the victory.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

TB Rays (+125)

New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles – 7:15PM ET

Tony Battalio

The New York Yankees will be looking to use this three game weekend series to chip away at the Baltimore Orioles lead in the American League East division. The Yankees stumbled coming out of the All-Star break but they will get Aaron Judge back and that should give them a much-needed boost as they look to make a playoff push during the back half of the regular season. They are the only team in Major League Baseball to be in last place in their division despite having a winning record which shows just how tough the American League East has been this season. Clarke Schmidt is expected to get to start for the Yankees in the second game of this three game weekend series on Saturday night.

The Baltimore Orioles have caught fire and surpassed the Tampa Bay Rays for the top spot in the American League East division. They will be looking to keep the momentum rolling in the middle game of this three-game series against the New York Yankees here on Saturday night. After facing off with one of the best pitchers in baseball on Friday night, they will be relieved to be able to go against Clarke Schmidt, and not Gerrit Cole. They will be hoping they can jump on Clarke Schmidt early like so many other teams have this season and get themselves a comfortable victory. That is exactly what I expect as I have Baltimore grabbing the win here on Saturday night.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Baltimore Orioles (-125)

Chicago Cubs @ St.Louis Cardinals – 7:15PM ET

Tony Battalio

It was a solid game from the Chicago Cubs in the second game of their four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. They didn’t score a double digit runs for the second consecutive evening, but after a couple of early runs from St. Louis, Chicago locked in and held them scoreless throughout the middle and late innings of the game. Chicago finally broke through during the middle innings of the game as they put up three runs between the fifth and sixth innings and they looked as if they were going to get a second consecutive victory over the Cardinals on Friday night. They did get that victory, but it did not come without controversy as they had to rob a game-winning home run to secure the win on Friday night.

The St. Louis Cardinals came mirror inches away from grabbing a huge victory over the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday night. As a walk off home run was robbed by the Cubs center fielder. Now St. Louis has lost the first two games of this series and they will have to win the final two over the weekend if they want to force a split of this four-game series against their arch rivals. If they lose one of the next two games, it is just a step further below .500 on the season and they will get farther and farther away from potentially pushing for a playoff spot this year. Unfortunately for the St. Louis Cardinals, that is exactly what I expect as I have the Chicago Cubs grabbing the victory here on Saturday evening.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Chicago Cubs (+130)

Seattle Mariners @ Arizona Diamondbacks – 8:10PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Seattle Mariners jumped all over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first inning of their game on Friday night, and they rode that momentum throughout the later innings of the game. As Seattle quickly put up a four spot on the Diamondbacks from the jump. Seattle controlled the pace of the game throughout and they picked up a huge victory over Arizona in the opening game of the series and they will be looking to replicate that performance here on Saturday night. The Mariners still have a long way to go, but they are trying to turn their season around coming down the stretch run of the year and another victory here in this game over Arizona would set them in the right direction.

The Arizona Diamondbacks struggled at the plate early on in their game against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Their pitching didn’t exactly live up to expectations either as they gave up four quick runs before the fans were even settled into their seats at Chase Field. The Diamondbacks looked completely lost on Friday night as they struggled to manufacture runs, and they were unable to keep the Seattle Mariners off the board as well. They will need to clean up their performance if they want to grab a victory here on Saturday night against the Seattle Mariners to avoid losing this series before the finale even gets here on Sunday. However, I don’t see that happening as I have the Mariners grabbing a second consecutive victory over the Diamondbacks.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Seattle Mariners (-130)

Cincinnati Reds @ Los Angeles Dodgers – 10:10PM ET

Tony Battalio

Cincinnati has turned their season around ever since calling up Elly De La Cruz a few months ago and his play has been off the charts, and he is likely going to win the National League rookie of the year award as well. They will be looking to pick up a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of this three game weekend series here on Saturday evening in Los Angeles and the task certainly won’t be easy for them. They will need to grab a much-needed victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers here on Saturday night as they look to chip away at the Milwaukee Brewers lead in the National League Central division, coming down the final stretch of the season. They also currently find themselves in contention for one of the three wild card spots in the National League as they are currently sitting in third place. They will also be hoping to hold onto the wildcard spot coming down the stretch run of the season as well.

If the 2023 Major League Baseball trade deadline has shown us anything it is that the Los Angeles Dodgers are potentially going all in to make a run at a World Series title. They have made several moves throughout the last few days and something tells me they are not quite done with the trade deadline looming only a couple days away. However, right now their focus is on the Cincinnati Reds and this three-game weekend series. They are the overwhelming favorites in this one, and they deservedly should be as their lineup is capable of making any starting pitcher’s outing a stressful one. I expect them to do just that here on Saturday night and pick up the victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

LA Dodgers (-200)
