Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays – 1:10PM ET

The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays will play game two of their three game series in this one. In game number one it was the Tampa Bay Rays who came out on top after scoring late to win it 2-1.

Tony Battalio

The Baltimore Orioles have seemingly been in rebuild mode for a very long time. This season could finally be the year that they start to look like a competitive baseball team. It certainly doesn’t help that they play in one of the toughest divisions in Major League Baseball. As they not only have to compete with Tampa Bay, but also the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, and the Toronto Blue Jays as well. They looked good in yesterday’s loss as they managed to shut down a potent Rays offense and only give up two runs.

The Tampa Bay Rays are one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. They have come so close to winning a World Series in years past and this season may be the season that they finally get the victory. Tampa Bay already started off the 2022 season strong after getting a 2-1 win in the season opener on Friday afternoon. Now they will be looking to pick up win number two and take the series, and set up a sweep opportunity on Sunday. As for the result of this game I have the Tampa Bay Rays getting the win.

Tony’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays (-245)

Jeffery Thomas

The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays will have game 2 of their series on Saturday afternoon. Game 1 went to the home Rays by a score of 2-1, getting the AL East champs off to a perfect 1-0 start on the year. Promising young star Wander Franco had 3 hits in his first game since signing his 11 year $182 dollar contract in the offseason. It was more of the same for the Orioles, who lost 18 of their 19 games against Tampa Bay last season, and finished 48 games behind them in the division.

After a low-scoring affair on Friday between the clubs I think we finally see some runs in the Saturday game. More specifically from the Rays, who will be facing Jordan Lyles who had 13 losses and an ERA over 5 last season. The Rays should light him up and I like the parlay here on them going over their team total which is set at 4.5.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays over 4.5 Runs (-128)

Marko Nadin

The defending AL East champions Tampa Bay Rays started the season with a 2-1 win over the Orioles after Drancisco Mejia sacrificed in the 8th inning for a run that proved to be decisive. That was the Ray’s 10th consecutive win over Baltimore and they will continue that run today with Drew Rasmussen on the mound. The 26h year-old pitcher was 4-1 last season after joining the Rays from the Minnesota Twins with a 2.84 ERA. The Rays have won 5 of the last 6 games after scoring no more than 2 runs in the previous game.

The Baltimore Orioles were one of the worst teams in the league last season and things do not look very optimistic this year as well. They had 7 hits with only one run last night against the Rays with Anthony Santander hitting a home run in the fifth inning. The Orioles will have Jordan Lyles pitching today who was 10-13 with 5.15 last season playing for the Texas Rangers. He joined the Orioles this offseason and they are the 7th team in his career. Baltimore has lost 51 of the last 71 games scoring no more than 2 goals in the previous game.

Marko’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays (-118)

Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers – 1:10PM ET

The Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers are facing off in this American League Central division matchup. In game one of their three game series it was the Detroit Tigers who got an upset win with a walkoff in the ninth.

Tony Battalio

The Chicago White Sox are poised to be the best team in the American League Central this season. However, their season didn’t get off to the best start yesterday after they were walked off on by the Tigers in the ninth inning. Now they will be looking to bounce back in this game against Detroit Tigers right hander Casey Mize. Unfortunately for Lucas Giolito, they spoiled a great start from him in this one, as he is going to be one of the top pitchers in Major League Baseball this season.

The Detroit Tigers got a huge victory on Friday afternoon. They got their 2022 season started off on the right foot and now they will look to secure the series and set themselves up for a sweep on Sunday. The Tigers fought back from a three run deficit late to set up a walkoff winner in the ninth. Newcomer Austin Meadows played a big role in this win as he went 1 for 2 at the dish, drew three walks and scored some big time runs. As for the result of this one I have the Chicago White Sox getting the victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Tony’s MLB Pick: Chicago White Sox (-154)

Jeffery Thomas

What a debut for new Tiger Javier Baez on Friday. He hit a long drive to right field and originally it was called an out, but upon video replay the ball hit the wall and was ruled a game-winning RBI, giving Detroit a 5-4 win over the White Sox. 3,000 hit watch is officially on too as the new season starts, as longtime Tiger Miguel Cabrera got hit #2,988 in the 8th inning to tie the game at three. The White Sox have to feel like they let a prime opportunity slip away to get off to a good start in the new year, so I think we’ll see a more dialed in group on Saturday.

Chicago is starting RHP Dylan Cease in the game on Saturday and that is great news for a possible bounce back win. Cease went 13-7 with a 3.91 ERA in 2021 but he has historically owned the Detroit Tigers in his career. His career record is 11-0 with a 1.82 ERA against the Tigers so he’ll feel right at home in this one and I expect him to lead the Sox to the victory.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Chicago White Sox (-154)

Marko Nadin

The Detroit Tigers won the series opener against the White Sox 5-4 on a controversial replay in the bottom of the nine after Javier Baez singled. It seemed like White Sox’s AJ Pollock made the catch but after the review it was obvious that the ball first hit the wall before he caught it. The Tigers will start Casey Mize today who is entering his third season in the MLB and was 7-9 last year with the Tigers with 3.71 ERA. Detroit has won 6 of the last 10 games against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox were 3-0 up last night in Detroit but things started to go the other way around in the bottom of the sixth inning. The White Sox managed to regain the lead in the top of the ninth inning but allowed two runs after it and ended up losing the game. Dylan Cease will start tonight for Chicago after finishing last season with a 13-7 record and 3.91 ERA. The White Sox have won 13 of the last 18 games following a loss and they are expected to bounce back tonight as well.

Marko’s MLB Pick: Chicago White Sox (-154)

Texas Rangers @ Toronto Blue Jays – 3:07PM ET

The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays got their series started in a big way on Friday afternoon. As the Jays came back from a 7-0 deficit to pick up a thrilling victory and open the season at 1-0 with a come from behind win at home.

Tony Battalio

The Texas Rangers completely retooled their roster before the season. The new look Rangers certainly looked good for a while in this game. However, they didn’t expect the wheels to fall off and for them to end up losing after not only hitting a lead off home run but also having such a massive lead. Despite the collapse it’s still fair to say that the Rangers are likely going to be one of the better teams in the American League this season and should still be taken as a credible threat to the American League West.

The Toronto Blue Jays opened up the 2022 Major League Baseball season with a bang. After storming back and picking up a huge victory over the Texas Rangers. It was a long road back as the comeback was started by Vladdy Jr. Then Vladdy Jr. struck again to bring the Jays within three runs. Finally it was a TeOscar Hernandez three run bomb for the tie. As for the result of this game I have the Toronto Maple Leafs getting another victory over the Texas Rangers in this one.

Tony’s MLB Pick: Toronto Blue Jays (-200)

Jeffery Thomas

When I wrote up the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East preview, I mentioned how they may have the best offense in the league. Well, in their opening game on Friday against the Texas Rangers they made a great case for that. The Rangers got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 7-0 lead by the fourth inning and all Blue Jays bettors I’m sure had lost all hope, but then they got 3 quick runs in the bottom of that inning to trim the lead to just four. By the end of the next inning, the game was tied and all momentum had shifted Toronto’s way. They rode that all the way to a 10-8 victory in what will be an opening day comeback that their fans will remember for a long time. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the win and also scored 2 runs.

Getting outscored 10-1 to end the game definitely will leave a sour taste in the Rangers’ mouths and on the flip side the Blue Jays will come in full of confidence. They played with fire on Friday and nearly got burned but I’m expecting a much cleaner performance this time out and they won’t take this rebuilding Texas team for granted this time around. I like the Blue Jays and their stacked lineup to get this one done and move to 2-0 on the year.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Toronto Blue Jays (-200)

Marko Nadin

This was the first time since the pandemic the TD Ballpark was packed and the home fans had a chance to enjoy a wild one. The Blue Jays came back from a 7-0 whole against the Rangers to win 10-8 in the end. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a double in the seventh inning to put the Blue Jays ahead. Kevin Gausman, who is entering his 10th MLB season, will start for Toronto tonight. He was 14-6 last season with a 2.81 ERA. Toronto has won the last 3 games against Texas scoring exactly 10 runs in each of them.

The Rangers will have Dane Dunning on the mound tonight. He is entering his third season in the majors with a 7-10 career record and 5-10 with 4.51 ERA last season. Texas has won 5 of the last 6 games as underdogs and 6 of the last 8 second games in the series but has lost 49 of the last 64 road games.

Marko’s MLB Pick: Toronto Blue Jays (-200)

Cleveland Guardians @ Kansas City Royals – 4:10PM ET

The Cleveland Guardians and the Kansas City Royals will play game two of their three game series in this one. In game one the Royals came back late to grab the win from the newly named Guardians. Now the Guardians will look to bounce back.

Tony Battalio

Zach Plesac takes the mound in this one as he tries to get Cleveland their first win as the newly renamed Guardians. The Guardians had one in the bag on Thursday before the Royals stole it from them. Shane Bieber looked good in his season debut, but unfortunately like many other games, the Cleveland offense didn’t really show up for Shane Bieber. Now the Guardians will look to bounce back in this game and get to 1-1 heading into the series finale on Sunday. There’s no telling what kind of season this will be for them.

The Kansas City Royals won a World Series in the middle of the 2010’s. Since winning the title they haven’t been very competitive. They were one of the worst teams in one of the worst divisions in baseball in 2021. Now they will look to have a bounce back year in 2022. They opened up the season with a nice comeback win against Cleveland to start the season 1-0. If they can get a win in this one they will lock up the series and have a shot at a sweep on Sunday. However, as for the result of this game, I have the Guardians getting the victory.

Tony’s MLB Pick: Cleveland Guardians (+104)

Jeffery Thomas

The Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals will pick their series back up on Saturday after getting Friday off. On Opening Day it was the Royals who got the 3-1 victory in a pitching duel between Zach Greinke and Shane Beiber. The game was tied at 1 in the eighth inning when Bobby Witt Jr. roped a double down the left-field line to break the tie and give Kansas City the lead for good. He was driven in later that inning for the insurance run. Jose Ramirez of the Guardians drove in the team’s only run a day after signing a five-year $124 million deal.

The Royals famously got off to a fast start last season and that’s probably what we are about to witness again this year. The home win in the opener was a big moment for Bobby Witt Jr. and I’ll imagine he’ll be even more confident in his at-bats going forward. Terry Francona teams historically get off to slower starts and pick things up later in the year, so I’m going to back that trend and take the home Royals again in what could be another low-scoring affair.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Kansas City Royals (-122)

Marko Nadin

The Kansas City Royals opened the season with a 3-1 win over Cleveland but what makes them really happy is that a new team star was born. Rookie Bobby Witt Jr. had a fantastic MLB debut as he hit a double in the bottom of the eight inning which proved to be crucial for the Royals. This was Kansas City’s third win in the last 4 games against Cleveland. They will have Brad Keller pitching tonight who was 8-12 last season with a 5.39 ERA. Kansas City has won 10 of the last 13 games following a day off but have lost 8 of the last 10 when the opponent has scored 2 or less runs in the previous game.

Cleveland, who played its first game after changing the name to Guardians, had 7 hits last night, two more than the Royals, but that wasn’t enough for a win. They will have Zach Plesac on the mound today and he has had a winning record in all of his three seasons in the league. Last season, Plesac was 10-6 with a 4.67 ERA. Cleveland has won 9 of the last 12 games following a loss and the last 5 games when their opponent allows 2 or less runs in the previous game.

Marko’s MLB Pick: Cleveland Guardians (+104)

New York Mets @ Washington Nationals – 7:05PM ET

Two games in and this series is already getting chippy after multiple New York Mets players have been hit high and in by baseballs. After two games the series has already been clinched by the Mets after winning the first two games by scores of 5-1 and 7-3.

Tony Battalio

The New York Mets will be looking to snag a sweep to open up the 2022 season. They have looked great in their first two games of the season. Despite a scary moment on Thursday with Pete Alonso and on Friday Francisco Lindor, the Mets have held their ground and now come into this game with the chance to start 3-0 and with a sweep over a division rival. The Mets are one of my favorites to compete for a National League pennant and a World Series this season.

The Washington Nationals are only two years removed from a World Series title but they certainly do not look like the same team. They have already ruffled some feathers this season after benches and bullpens cleared in their game on Friday. Their pitchers have been getting a little too friendly on the mound as they’ve thrown several pitches up and in and at Mets hitters and even have hit a couple of their biggest stars in the face. As for the result of this game I have the New York Mets completing the sweep over the Nationals.

Tony’s MLB Pick: New York Mets (-164)

Jeffery Thomas

The New York Mets have gotten off to a fast start in 2022, notching two road wins over the Washington Nationals. Friday’s game was a chippy one, with a bench clearing scuffle in the fifth inning after Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch. He was the fourth Mets player to be hit in the first two games and that was just the final straw. After all the dust settled, the Nets prevailed 7-3 and gave Max Scherzer a 1-0 record with his new ball club.

Chris Bassitt will be making his Mets debut after being traded to New York from the Oakland Athletics less than a month ago. He will be opposed by RHP Joan Adon who made his major league debut in the season finale last season. Axon held his own, going 5.1 innings, only giving up a couple of runs and striking out 9 batters so the moment won’t be too big. However, I don’t think his offense is doing enough to keep pace with this loaded Mets team and they’ll move to 3-0 on the season.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: New York Mets (-164)

Marko Nadin

The New York Mets had a great start of the season winning 7-3 against the Nationals having 13 hits compared to Nationals’ five. The game was marked by the bench clearing interruption after Steve Cishek’s pitch ended up in Francisco Lindor’s face which was the fourth time a Mets’ player was hit in the face in the last two games against the Nationals. The Mets will have Chris Bassist on the mound today who was brought in from Oakland and had an impressive 12-4 record last season with a 3.15 ERA.

Washington will try to bounce back with Joan Adon on the mound who made his MLB debut last season. The Nationals have lost 42 of the last 60 games as underdogs, 29 of the last 38 games against a NL East team and 21 of the last 27 home games. The Mets have won 5 of the last 6 games going in as favorites, but have lost 20 of the last 28 road games.

Marko’s MLB Pick: New York Mets (-164)
