The start of a new week and the start of lots of new series’s! Who will be able to start the week off on the right foot, and who will need to quickly bounce back? Only time will tell.
We have a lot of interesting match ups today, teams on opposite sides of the league in terms of results, as well as teams who are doing equally as bad as each other. Should make for some really decent watching to get you through the first day of the working week.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Washington Nationals – 7.05PM ET
This Monday evening game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals will be the first of a three game mini series. The Pirates have already been on the road for their three game mini series with the Brewers, and will play this series on the road before returning home. The Nationals have been playing at home for a while, they play their previous series at home, along with this series and the next one, before going on the road again.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are not having a good season so far, they are currently sitting on a 23-41 season record. They are the last team of their Central Division in the National League, with the Cardinals the team ahead of them, with 32 wins.
The Pirates have only won three games out of their last ten, and this does include a current seven game losing streak, with series losses to the Dodgers (3-0) and the Brewers (3-0). When it comes to average runs scored per game, they are at the bottom of the league, with an average of 3.5.

The Washington Nationals are also not having a great season in terms of results so far, they are currently sitting on a 27-35 season record. They are currently the bottom team in the East Division in the National League, with the Marlins their closest rivals, with 29 wins.
The Nationals have only won four games out of their last ten, and this includes a series loss to the Phillies (2-1), as well as series ties with the Rays (1-1) and the Giants (2-2). The Nationals are also at the bottom of the league when it comes to average runs scored per game, at 3.74.
This should be an interesting battle between two teams that are both at the bottom of their division. Both teams do not have a good record when it comes to playing on a Monday or for the first game of a series, especially the Pirates who currently sit on a 26-54 record of their previous 80 first game matches. The thing that will hopefully give the Nationals the edge here is Lester, if he can find some form, we think it will be enough to start the week off with a victory.

Miami Marlins @ St Louis Cardinals – 8.15PM ET
This Monday evening game between the Miami Marlins and the St Louis Cardinals will be the first of a three game mini series. The Marlins have been playing at home for the last six games, and this is the first of two series’ they will be playing on the road. The Cardinals will return home for this series before heading on out on the road again for six games.

The Cardinals have only won one game out of their last ten, and this includes series losses to the Reds (4-0) and the Cubs (3-0), as well as a series tie with the Indians (1-1) . The Cardinals are near the middle of the league when it comes to average runs scored per game, at 4.22.
While the Cardinals have the better season record, if you look closely at their recent form, they are having a tough run of it, only winning one game out of their last ten! The Cardinals need to do all they can to try and get their season back on track, and we think a match against the Marlins is the perfect opportunity to do so. We will be backing the Cardinals for this Monday evening clash.

Los Angeles Angels @ Oakland Athletics – 9.40PM ET
This Monday evening game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland Athletics will be the first of a three game mini series. This will be the Angels’ second series on the road, before they return home to take on the Tigers later in the month. The Athletics have been playing at home for a few series’ and this will be the last one before they hit the road again.
The Los Angeles Angels are having a decent season so far, they are currently sitting on a 33-32 season record. They are the middle team of their West Division in the American League, with the Mariners and Rangers the two teams behind them.

The Oakland Athletics are having an excellent season in terms of results so far, they are currently sitting on a 40-27 season record. They are currently the top team in the West Division in the American League, with the Astros their closest rivals, with 37 wins.
The Athletics have won eight games out of their last ten, and this includes series wins against the Rockies (2-1), the Diamondbacks (2-0) and the Royals (3-1). The Athletics are in the top half of the league when it comes to average runs scored per game, at 4.39.
Two teams with a winning record will do battle on Monday evening. The Angels are 7-3 in their previous 10 games on a Monday, but their long term record takes a beating when looking at games on the road when playing another team with a winning record, they are currently 34-72 in their previous 106. Both teams have a strong recent record, but we like the look of the Athletics with the help from Manaea to get them over the line.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants – 9.45PM ET
This Monday evening game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants will be the first of a four game mini series. The Diamondbacks are just coming off playing three games at home, and now they are off to San Francisco to play the Giants, before returning home again. The San Francisco Giants are having an excellent season in terms of results so far, they are currently sitting on a 40-25 season record. They are currently the top team in the West Division in the National League, with the Dodgers hot on their heels, with 39 wins.
The Giants have won six games out of their last ten, and this includes a series win against the Cubs (3-1), as well as series ties with the Rangers (1-1) and the Nationals (2-2). The Giants are in the top third of the league when it comes to average runs scored per game, at 4.67.
The Diamondbacks only have half the amount of wins that the Giants have! Arizona just doesn’t know how to win and they keep tripping themselves up whenever they actually get close. The Diamondbacks are 1-6 in their previous seven games in San Francisco, and they are 0-5 in their last five meetings overall with the Giants. This should be an easy one, back the Giants.

Minnesota Twins @ Seattle Mariners – 10.10PM ET
This Monday evening game between the Minnesota Twins and the Seattle Mariners will be the first of a three game mini series. The Mariners have a nice run of home games, with the first kicking off on Monday evening.

The Seattle Mariners are not having a good season in terms of results so far, they are currently sitting on a 32-35 season record. They are currently the second last team in the West Division in the American League, with the Rangers the only team behind them, on 25 wins.
The Mariners have only won four games out of their last ten, and this does include a series tie with the Angels (2-2), as well as series losses to the Tigers (2-1) and the Indians (2-1). The Mariners are at the bottom of the league when it comes to average runs scored per game, at 3.86.
This is a tough one to pick, both teams have been struggling for form in their last ten games. But we have to go with the Mariners with this one, they are a team that likes to play at home, and they are 35-17 in their previous 52 games at home after they have come back from a trip on the road that lasted a week or greater. Back the Mariners to pull out the home win and get their week off right.
