Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals – 2:10PM ET

The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals will be playing the first game of their quick one game series in this one. These two American League Central teams have met four times already this season. The Kansas City Royals currently lead the series eight games to seven.

Tony Battalio

It is fair To say that the Chicago White Sox might’ve gotten lucky when their series finale against the Cleveland Guardians got rained out on Sunday afternoon. Despite the fact that Chicago picked up the victory on Saturday it was clear that the Guardians came into the series as the better baseball team. The White Sox were expected to be the clear favorites in this American League Central division but have been nothing short of a disappointment. They come into this game only three games above the .500 mark with a record of 62-59 through their first 121 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

It has been an abysmal year for the Kansas City Royals but if there is a light at the end of the tunnel it is the fact that they are checking out some prospects. There are certainly some of them that  look like they could be potential stars in the future. Kansas City comes into this game 25 games below the .500 mark with a record of 49-74 through their first 123 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. I think it’ll be the Chicago White Sox that pick up the victory in this game and win their second straight game in a row.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Chicago White Sox (-155)

The White Sox were expecting to head into game one of this road series coming off of a double header against the Guardians, but those games were postponed, so the White Sox are fresh and ready to get back to work. We should see the White Sox offense at near full power with the exception of the recently injured Yasmani Grandal. With a team average of .259, but an OBP of only .313 on the season, the White Sox are best when they can get pitches to hit. They will certainly get a lot of pitches to hit today, as the play against Royals starting pitcher, Daniel Lynch, who has given up 100 hits in only 93 innings this season.

The Royals face an uphill battle as they face the White Sox and starting pitcher Michael Kopech, who consistently reaches triple digits on his fastball and has put up a respectable 3.25 ERA this season. Kansas City just got back from a horrible week long road trip in which they went 1-6, which reflects just how poorly their season has gone. The Royals have a lot of young players who are developing into stars right now on their MLB roster, such as Bobby Witt Jr., M.J. Melendez, Nick Pratto, and Vinnie Pasquantino. Those players give the Royals a bit of a wildcard factor that could help them play spoiler, but all in all I still like the White Sox in this one.

Kyler’s MLB Pick:

Chicago White Sox (-155)

Cincinnati RedsPhiladelphia Phillies – 7:05PM ET

The Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies will be playing the first game of their four game series in this one. These two National League teams have met once already this season, last week in a three game series. The Philadelphia Phillies currently lead the season series two games to one.

Tony Battalio

The Cincinnati Reds are one of the lowest teams in baseball on the payroll chart. That is reflected in their play this season as they come into this game 23 games below the .500 mark with a record of 48-71 through their first 119 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have picked up four victories in their last ten games on the year and come into this game on a two game winning streak. As they will look to take game one of the series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been much better however and with the way they started the season it is easy to see why some people would’ve considered them a playoff team. Their consistency is paid off as they come into this game 11 games above the .500 mark with a record of 66-55 through their first 121 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. Philadelphia currently holds onto the third and final wildcard spot in the National League and sit in third place of the National League East division as well.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Cincinnati Reds (+185)

The Reds have been terrible all season long after they tore down their roster this past offseason due to money concerns, but recently it hasn’t all been bad. Helped out by Jake Fraley, who has had a great last 7 games with 3 homers and 5 RBIs with a .320 OBP in 25 at-bats. They’ve scored 39 runs in the last week and given up only 31, which is amazing for a Reds team that has scored only 500 total runs this season and has given up a whopping total of 577 runs. They bat against Noah Syndergaard today for the Phillies, who has had really solid starts for his first three games in a Philadelphia jersey, which all resulted in three close wins.

The Phillies are in an interesting spot at this point in the season, sitting in the final wild card position in the NL, they are clinging on to the playoffs as the Brewers are only a game and a half behind them. As for the roster, they are currently transitioning from an offense only type play style, to now recently, they actually are playing good defense and seem to be putting together a solid team as they await for the return of Bryce Harper. The Phillies are in a position where they need to win games like this, and they certainly have the pitching advantage with Syndergaard on the mound for them, up against what will likely be a bullpen game for the Reds, you would hope the Phillies could win this one, but I just don’t see it. The Phillies are coming off a devastating loss to the Mets and the headwinds seem to be more in the Reds favor today.

Kyler’s MLB Pick:

Cincinnati Reds (+185)

Atlanta Braves @ Pittsburgh Pirates – 7:05PM ET

The Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates will be playing the first game of their three game series in this one. These two National League teams have met once already this season in a four game series. The Atlanta Braves currently lead the season series four games to zero.

Tony Battalio

The defending World Series champions look like they’re getting ready to gear up for a run at back to back World Series titles. They have been by far the hottest team in all of Major League Baseball over the last couple weeks and they don’t look to be cooling down anytime soon. Atlanta comes into this game 27 games above the .500 mark with a record of 75-48 through their first 123 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are coming into this game on a one game losing streak after their loss on Sunday but I don’t think it’ll put a damper on their play at all.

At this point it is just a different season and the same result for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they are the worst team of the 2000s in all of Major League Baseball. At this point it feels almost impossible for this franchise to even buy a winning season and it feels like it would take all of their opponents just deciding to forfeit the games. As the Pittsburgh Pirates come into this game 27 games below the .500 mark and in last place of the National League Central division. They come in to this game on a two game losing streak and I look for them to lose game one of the series as well.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Atlanta Braves (-200)

The Braves have scored an incredible 4.9 runs per game en route to a 75-48 record this season following their historic World Series run last season. The Braves lineup is full of offensive fire power including multiple dark horse MVP candidates in Dansby Swanson and Austin Riley. Don’t forget about Matt Olson and Ronald Acuna Jr. who have an average OPS of about .800. Marcell Ozuna also add plenty of power despite his off the field problems, he is now back on the team, adding a good power bat that has already racked up 20 home runs this season. The Braves have Jake Odorizzi on the mound for them today, and are up against Roansy Contreras.

The Pirates aren’t the most offensively efficient team in the league, with only 435 runs this season they are third worst in the league in scoring this year. There offensive production has trended up in the last week however, from 3.6 runs per game this season to 4.4 in the last seven games. Oneil Cruz, Michael Chavis, and Bryan Reynolds have all been clicking recently and you can tell by the offensive production increase.

Kyler’s MLB Pick:

Over Nine Runs (-105)

New York Mets @ New York Yankees – 7:05PM ET

The New York Mets and New York Yankees will be playing the first game of their two game series. These two rivals have already met once this season in another two game series. The New York Mets currently lead the season series two games to zero.

Tony Battalio

The Subway series is back and the Mets will be looking to clinch the series in game one of this quick two game series. When these two teams met earlier this season it was the New York Mets that had the clean sweep over the New York Yankees as they beat them both times. It has actually been a pretty successful year for New York baseball as a whole as these two teams are among the best teams in all of Major League Baseball. At this point it’s very realistic that they could meet in the World Series later this year.

Both the New York Mets and New York Yankees come into this game and in first place in their respective Eastern division. However, at this point it’s been the Mets that have surpassed the Yankees after the way the weeks have been playing over the last three or so weeks. As the match coming to this game with 79 victories while the Yankees only have 74. The main difference is the fact that the Yankees have a bigger lead in the division and can afford to lose a few more games here and there than the Mets can.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

New York Mets (-160)

In what could be a World Series preview, the two titans of the Big Apple face off in a short two game series at Yankee Stadium, starting today after the Mets get back from Philadelphia following a dramatic 10-9 win against the Phillies that clinched the series win for the Mets. Preceding their against the Phillies in Philly, the Mets were nearly swept by the Braves in Atlanta in what was a pretty embarrassing stretch for a Met team that wants to establish dominance in the NL east. The Mets will have Mad Max Scherzer pitching for them in a game that they want to use to send a message to the rest of the league.

The Yankees are in a terrible spot right now for a team whose division lead should inspire confidence and rejoice. Going 3-9 in their last 12 games, and hitting an abysmal .646 OPS in August so far, down from .835 in July, surely doesn’t inspire much confidence at all. In fact, they shouldn’t have any confidence going into this series as they are expected to face Max Scherzer and Jacob DeGrom coming off the mound in the next two days. Scherzer’s 2.13 ERA and 0.93 whip, which are both near the top of the league in their respective categories, should be enough to put the already sleepy Yankees offense out completely.

Kyler’s MLB Pick:

New York Mets (-160)

Los Angeles Angels @ Tampa Bay Rays – 7:10PM ET

The Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays will be playing the first game of their four game series in this one. These two American League teams have met once already this season in a three game series. The Los Angeles Angels currently lead the season series two games to one.

Tony Battalio

The Los Angeles Angels have to be the biggest disappointment of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. After the way they started out the year is one of the best teams in all of the league for them to collapse the way they have is absolutely gut wrenching. Now they come into game one of the series seventeen games below the .500 mark and they currently sit in fourth place of the American League West division. They have lost six out of the last 10 on the year and will come into this game on a two game losing streak.

The Tampa Bay Rays have actually been pretty consistent lately. They are 10 games above the .500 mark and currently find themselves in second place of the American League East division with a record of 66-55 through their first 121 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. Tampa Bay has picked up seven victories in their last 10 games on the year and come into this game on a two game winning streak.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Tampa Bay Rays (-225)

Kyler Wolff

Two underperforming teams this season, the Angels post a 52-69 record which is bad even before you consider the two MVP players on their roster. The Rays are also underperforming at 65-55, but that’s likely because their expectations were so high coming into the season. Both teams rank in the bottom third of the league in most offensive statistical categories, (.238/.307/.377 for the Rays which rank 21st, 21st and 23rd; .227/.295/.378 for the Angels which rank 27th, 27th and 22nd) and they are both starting underrated pitchers in Jeffery Springs and Tucker Davidson.

Jeffery Springs is starting for the Rays, and he has been dominant all year, while not receiving enough credit. His ERA is 2.52 and his whip is 1.05 over the course of what’s been an outstanding season for the 29 year old lefty. Pitching for the Angels is another Lefty in Tucker Davidson who hasn’t had nearly as good of a season as Springs, but has also had a small sample size with only 10 innings pitched so far this season. The Angels do not hit well against lefties with a season OPS of .643 against southpaws this season, the Rays also don’t hit particularly well against left handed pitchers, with an OPS of .698 this season.

Kyler’s MLB Pick:

Under Runs (+100)
