Pittsburgh Pirates @ Cincinnati Reds – 6.40PM ET
Pittsburgh head into this clash coming off a strongly contested 3-4 defeat to the Cubs. As for Cincinnati they thrashed the Blues 12-1. With the Pirates at 1-2 and the Reds at 2-1 this is sure to be a cracker of a match. And what better place to contest it at then the Great American Ball Park, a venue where its first ever game saw the Reds host the Pirates.
With the Pirates having conceded 3, 5 and 4 over their opening three games of the season they have a lot of work to do defensively in order to start taking out more games and to become a more well-rounded outfit.

While for Cincinnati they are on a roll. After having gone down in their opener 6-11, they’ve bounced back to win 9-6 and then the 12-1 victory. There’s a lot of offensive spark within this side.
Nick Castellanos was big for the Reds as he batted .545 (6/11) and had three homeruns over the weekend just past. He also conjured up four extra-base hits, five RBIs and six runs scored. All this came after he was recently ejected from his teams 9-6 win after a scuffle. What a turnaround for the man!
If he can keep the good times rolling in this one, then his side will be hard to beat.
New York Mets @ Philadelphia Phillies – 7.05PM ET
Two NL East Division rivals go at it again as it’s the Mets facing off against the Phillies. These two sides love a good battle and Philly will be attempting to rewrite their recent form, as the Mets have won the past two in a row against them.
These teams have a strong disdain towards one another and who could forget in 2018 when the Mets destroyed them 24-4? Whatever this game comes up with is bound to be great.
The Mets have yet to feature this season with all three of their games against Washington unfortunately being postponed. And while that sucks for Mets fans, I’m sure they’d love nothing more then for their opening season win to come against their arch-rivals.
While for the Phillies they’ve beaten Atlanta 3-2, 4-0 and 2-1 to start their season off with. Most recently in their 2-1 victory it was a team effort that got them through. As per the MLB website from Philadelphia manager Joe Girardi, “Everyone did their job. To limit this team like we did (in reference to the Braves), it’s not really easy to do.”
Zack Wheeler claimed seven innings as he again starred for his side. And they’ll be hoping that they can catch an untested New York side off-guard in this one.
Tampa Bay Rays @ Boston Red Sox – 7.10PM ET
The Rays travel to Fenway Park in this encounter to play the Red Sox. Boston who are 0-3 will be desperate to avoid more humiliation at home but it just may not be possible with Tampa Bay displaying some solid form to start off with this campaign.
Tampa Bay’s latest game was a high-scoring 7-12 defeat to Miami. The Rays got 4 on the board in the 5th period but Miami were too clinical in other parts of the clash to allow them (the Rays) to escape with the win.
The Rays sole homer came via Mike Zunino on a fly ball to left field which allowed Yandy Diaz to score. They’ll be hoping for a bit more of that in this affair.
We’ll leave Miami taking 2 out of 3

While for the Red Sox their 3-11 defeat to Baltimore was both heavy and bad. Whilst losing the 3rd period 7-1 was a horrible look for them. For a side that last won a World Series Title in 2018 they’ve been nothing short of poor since then and it’s been sad to watch it all unfold. That match also meant that Baltimore swept Boston for the first time since 2017.
Boston obviously needs a win here while Tampa would obviously rather be at 3-1 then 2-2. But at the end of the day Tampa should get the win here, if nothing else then because of the Red Sox’s terrible form.
Milwaukee Brewers @ Chicago Cubs – 7.40PM ET
Two rivals come to blows here with Milwaukee coming up against Chicago at Wrigley Field. From the Brewers first beating them in Chicago 4-2 during interleague play in 1997, to 2010 when they won 18-1, then in 2015 the Cubs incredible 9-match winning streak over the Brewers came to a close. These teams have some heated history with one another and no doubt another chapter will be added in this encounter.
The visitors most recent game was a heavy 2-1 defeat to the Twins. Prior to that they had gone down to them 2-0 and beat them 6-5. They’ll want to get a rebounding victory here but at Wrigley Field that’ll certainly be no easy task.
As for the Cubs they’ve won 2/3 so far to start off with vs the Pirates. In their most recent 4-3 win it was Zach Davies who was the star in his Cubs debut as he silenced a lot of supporter’s questionable opinions about him.
He had 5 2/3 IP, 2ER and 5K. The former Padre showed up big here and will again be looking to play well against his other former club in the form of Milwaukee. He repped them from 2015-19.
The MLB continues to have a fantastic start to its season with encounters such as these.
Los Angeles Dodgers @ Oakland Athletics – 9.40PM ET
With the Dodgers at 3-1 at the Athletics at 0-4 this game has the potential to become a blowout extremely quickly. And with LA having posted a fierce 22-8 away record last season Oakland could be in for a few more heavy blows here.
LA went down to the Rockies 5-8 to start their campaign off with. But since then they’ve gone nothing but up, prevailing over them 11-6, 6-5 and 4-2.
Julio Urias put on the burners as the 24-year-old wreaked havoc on the opposition for the Dodgers. He struck out six and only allowed one hit against him. The Rockies also managed to only come up with two hard-hit balls against him. The Pitcher and reigning World Championship Series winner certainly showed why his team is one to fear … again.
— Oakland A’s (@Athletics) April 4, 2021
As for Oakland their 9-2 defeat to Houston was bad. The Astros again tore them to absolute shreds and there was next to nothing they could seemingly do about it. It got pretty ugly in the 4th period as the Astros put four up on the scoreboard.
And in a match that sees one of the best teams the MLB has to offer going up against one of the worst, there is the potential for some records to tumble in this should be one-sided encounter.
