Chicago White Sox @ Boston Red Sox – 11.10PM ET

In the annual Patriots Day game that will be paying tribute to the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, the Red Sox will host the Chicago White Sox for the final match of their four game series in Boston.

Since having their nine game winning streak snapped by the Twins, Boston have a 1-3 record from their last four games, including a 1-2 record from their first three games of this set against Chicago.

The Red Sox won the opening game of the head to head series 7-4, but have since dropped their next two matches against Chicago 3-2 and most recently 5-1 in the second match of Sunday’s double header.

Subsequently, the White Sox are obviously on a two game winning streak against the Red Sox in Boston.

Leury Garcia scored twice from his two hits in the second match of Sunday’s double header, while Chicago’s bullpen allowed just three runs across both games, led by Dallas Keuchel and Michael Kopech. Keuchel gave up two earned runs in his five innings at the mound in the early game, while Kopech threw four strikeouts, allowed one hit and gave up one run in his three innings with the ball (seven innings game).

With Lucas Giolito taking the ball for the White Sox in this game, Chicago will have the advantage in the pitching matchup. Giolito has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his three outings this season, currently boasting a 2.55 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP and 26 strikeouts, while only conceding seven runs in 17 innings against the Red Sox.

Boston’s starter Nathan Eovaldi has not experienced the same success, allowing six runs in 9.2 innings against the White Sox.

With this in mind, we like Chicago to make it three in a row against the Red Sox on Monday, capitalising on Giolito’s dominance at the mound and leaving Boston with a series victory.

St Louis Cardinals @ Washington Nationals – 7.05PM ET

The Cardinals and Nationals will begin their three game set in Washington on Monday night, as St Louis are looking to redeem themselves after a 2-1 home series loss to the Nationals just last week.

Having played Washington in St Louis and the Phillies in Philadelphia in back to back three game sets, the Cardinals have a 2-4 record in their past six outings, most recently going down to 2-0 against Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon.

Aaron Nola threw a complete game for Philadelphia on Sunday, striking out 10 Cardinals batters in the process. Nola allowed just two hits and zero walks for the match, as the Cardinals batting lineup was once again the catalyst behind St Louis loss.

As for the Nationals, they also suffered a loss on Sunday, going down 2-5 against Arizona in Washington. The three run defeat brought an end to Washington’s two game winning streak.

Trae Turner scored both of the Nationals’ runs in their loss, improving his season batting average to .308, to go along with his four home runs and seven RBIs.

As it stands, Washington are a bottom 10 club when looking at both runs scored per game (25th – 3.7) and team ERA (20th – 4.41). However, the Nationals bullpen will warmly welcome Joe Ross to the mound on Sunday. Ross is 1-0 this season, 3-0 against the Cardinals in his career (with an ERA of 2.86) and is yet to allow a run in his five innings pitched.

Although their early season COVID-19 outbreak has limited their  roster so far this year, the Nationals have dominated the Cardinals in recent years. Given that Joe Ross has the pitching advantage over Jack Flaherty (who has a 7.40 ERA in his last six games on the road), we like the Nationals to win this matchup in Washington, improving on their 2-1 record against the Cardinals from last week’s series in St Louis.

Texas Rangers @ Los Angeles Angels -9.38PM ET

The Angels will host the Texas Rangers on Monday night for the opening match of their three game series in Los Angeles.

As a result of their recent 1-0 shutout victory over Baltimore, the Rangers avoided an embarrassing 3-0 sweep at home, wrapping up the series with one win from their three games in Texas.

Kyle Gibson threw eight scoreless innings on Sunday, striking out six Orioles batters and allowing just four hits. However Nate Lowe was the hero of the day, hitting a 10th inning single to secure the walk-off victory.

Having scored just five runs in their series against Baltimore, the Rangers are scoring 3.7 runs per games, making them a bottom ten scoring team in the league.

As for the Angels, the final two games of their series against the Twins were recently postponed due to COVID-19 issues on Minnesota’s roster. Los Angeles’ most recent game was on Friday, where they were 10-3 victors over the Twins.

Los Angeles are scoring an average of 5.46 runs per game in 2021, making them the fourth most prolific scoring team in the league. The Angels are also the 25th ranked pitching team in the MLB entering Monday’s encounter, however Texas are a bottom 10 team when looking at the same metrics.

Seeing as the Angels are at home, have had several days off and are one of the best batting groups in the league, we can’t see them being upset by Texas in this matchup. Especially when considering how poorly the Rangers are performing this year, both at the mound and with bat in hand.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Seattle Mariners – 10.10PM ET

The Mariners and Dodgers will commence their two game series in Seattle on Monday night.

The upcoming trip to Seattle will break up two sets of games against the Padres for the Dodgers, having won their recent three game series 2-1 in San Diego.

After winning the opening two games against the Padres 11-6 and 2-0 respectively, the Dodgers failed to complete the sweep on Sunday, going down 5-2 in their most recent outing.

Mookie Betts, Justin Turner, Max Muncy and Chris Taylor all scored twice in Friday’s five run win, while Yu Darvish allowed one hit and recorded nine strikeouts in seven scoreless innings, setting up the shutout victory on Saturday.

Dustin May will be given the responsibility of returning Los Angeles to the winners list on Monday, taking the mound having allowed nine hits, two earned runs and three walks, while also boasting 14 strikeouts and a 1.74 ERA in his 10.1 innings this year.

When looking at Seattle, they have continued their strong start to the season, with a 5-2 record from their last seven games. The Mariners scored four runs in the fourth inning of Sunday’s match against the Astros, which concluded with a 5-2 victory for Seattle.

Mitch Haniger and Ty France scored twice in Sunday’s victory, while Nick Margevicius threw 4.0 innings with one earned run and three strikeouts.

Justus Sheffield will take the mound for Seattle on Monday. Having allowed 11 hits, eight runs, two homers and four walks with a 4.91 ERA from his 11 innings this season, Sheffield will be looking to yield some better results on Monday after a rough start to the season.

The form of the Mariners makes them tough to pick against, especially with the game being played in Seattle. However, the Dodgers 13-3 record is the best in the league for a reason and having recently defeated the Padres twice in San Diego, we can’t see them dropping a second consecutive game on the road.

Milwaukee Brewers @ San Diego Padres – 10.10PM ET

The Brewers and Padres will close out Monday’s MLB schedule in San Diego, with the Padres looking to build on Sunday’s victory over the Dodgers.

After dropping the first two matches of their three game set against Los Angeles in San Diego, the Padres secured a 5-2 victory over the reigning World Series champions on Sunday, improving their overall record for the season to 10-7.

Although he gave up two earned runs in the second inning, Blake Snell struck-out seven Dodgers and allowed just two hits in his five innings at the mound.

Contrastingly, the Brewers are coming into Monday’s matchup having lost their most recent outing against Pittsburgh in Milwaukee. With the game tied at bottom of the ninth Pittsburgh scored at the top of the 10th, essentially securing the Pirates a 6-5 victory.

Brandon Woodruff will take the mound for the Brewers on Monday, currently boasting a 2.12 ERA and a 0.765 WHIP, as well as three walks and 19 strikeouts over 17 innings (four starts) this year.

Although Woodruff has been solid, the Padres will undeniably have the advantage at the mound on Monday, with Joe Musgrove making his fourth start of the season. Joe Musgrove is 2-1 with a 0.47 ERA, a 0.474 WHIP this year, as well as two walks and 24 strikeouts over 19 innings.

Given that the Brewers have lost Christian Yelich out of their lineup with a back injury, we think it’ll be tough for Milwaukee to put up a defendable score. We like the Padres to pick up a second consecutive win in San Diego on Monday, building on their solid early season form and taking confidence out of Sunday’s victory over the star-studded Dodgers.
