Home Run Derby – 8PM ET

The eight hitters in this year’s competition include Pete Alonso, Kyle Schwarber, Julio Rodriguez, Ronald Acuna, Jose Ramirez, Albert Pujols, Corey Seager, and Juan Soto. They will compete in a bracket style tournament to determine the HRD champ for 2022.

Tony Battalio

As usual the 2022 Home Run Derby is yet another chance to see a loaded field of some of the best power hitters in all of Major League Baseball. It will be an interesting tournament as some of the best matchups are actually taking place in the first couple of rounds. As Jose Ramirez will have to contend with Juan Soto and Pete Alonso will face Ronald Acuna. Meanwhile Kyle Schwarber will face off with Albert Pujols and Julio Rodriguez will face Corey Seager.

It is a loaded class in this year’s contest and anyone would be able to win this. In my opinion I think it will be the Cleveland Guardians slugger Jose Ramirez as I expect him to be red hot after his two home run performance in his last game before the all-star break. While most people think New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso to three peat I am going a different route and going with Ramirez to win it all.

Tony’s HRD Pick:

Jose Ramirez (+1600)

The All Star break is upon us finally and the festivities will start up on Monday with the fan favorite event, the Home Run Derby. New York Mets slugger and two-time defending champion Pete Alonso is looking for the three-peat and will have to face off against his NL East rival Ronald Acuna Jr. in the first round. These two faced off before, back in 2019, when Acuna Jr. beat Alonso in the semi finals with a buzzer-beating homer so revenge will be on the champ’s mind. The National League leader in home runs (26) is Kyle Schwarber, who is on the other side of the bracket as the top seed. He gets a bit of an easy matchup in the first round, as he gets the old veteran Albert Pujols Jr. who is far past his prime. He will be the oldest participant ever in this event and a longshot to get past the first round.

Washington Nationals slugger Juan Soto (who recently turned down a $440 million contract) gets Cleveland Guardians infielder Jose Ramirez in the first round and I like JRam to surprise people and advance past that steep test. The other matchup is Texas’ Corey Seager against the rookie from Seattle Julio Rodriguez. I like Seager there to advance and take on Pete Alonso in the next round. So now it’s Ramirez vs Schwarber and I’m rolling with Ramirez yet again to advance to the title round as the second to last favorite in the field. In the title round I have him taking on the defending champion Pete Alonso. At this point in the festivities though, I think the experience of the event will push Alonso over the top and get him yet another Home Run Derby championship.

Jeffery’s HRD Pick:

Pete Alonso (+155)

Eight of the best hitters will square off on Monday at the Dodgers Stadium in the event that is always very exciting. Phillies Kyle Schwarber has hit the most home runs from the contestants as he is second in the MLB behind Aaron Judge with 29 home runs this season. He will go against veteran Albert Pujols in the opening run who is playing his last season in the MLB with the St. Louis Cardinals. Given the odds, Pete Alosno is the player who is the favorite to win the 2022 Home Run Derby. He has hit 24 home runs on .265 hitting average for the New York Mets and will go against Ronald Acuna Jr. who is tied for the 131st place in the MLB this season with 8 home runs. Juan Soto and Jose Ramirez will face off in the most interesting match up as Soto has hit 20 home runs this season for the Nationals and Ramirez has one less than him for the Guardians.

My favorite to win this one is Corey Seager who is 10th in the league this season with 22 hit home runs and .251 hitting average. He will go against Julio Rodriguez from the Mariners who has 16 home runs this season with .275 average.

Marko’s HRD Pick:

Corey Seager (+1000)
