Washington Nationals @ Colorado Rockies – 7:05PM ET

The Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals will be playing game number two of their four game weekend series in this one. In the first game of the series it was the Nationals who picked up the victory and now they will be looking to clinch at least a share of the series here in game two.

Tony Battalio

Ever since they won the World Series in 2019 the Washington Nationals have been one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball. In fact it may be fair to say that they have been so bad that their championship victory is starting to feel like it was decades ago instead of just three short seasons ago. They are having a rough start to the 2022 campaign and it looks like they are heading for another disappointing finish. They are on pace to finish below last year’s record of 65-97, as they come into the second game of this series with a record of 16-30 through their first 46 games of the season.

After a shocking start to the 2022 Major League Baseball season, the Colorado Rockies have slowly reverted back to the form that they were expected to be at this season. As they now come into this game hovering around the .500 mark on the year with a record of 20-24 through their first 44 games of the season. It certainly doesn’t help that they play in one of the toughest divisions in baseball and have to compete with the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants this season as well. As they will likely remain in the fourth or fifth spot for the majority of the year. As for the result of this one however, I have them picking up the win over the Nationals.

Tony’s MLB Pick: Colorado Rockies (-102)

Jeffery Thomas

It is a positive start for the Washington Nationals in their series against the Colorado Rockies. The Nats got the 7-3 win Thursday on the road for their second straight victory. Patrick Corbin got his first win of the season, going 6 ⅓ innings and giving up three earned runs. Rockies’ pitcher German Marquez moved to just 1-5 on the season with the loss and has now given up three or more runs in every start but one. I like Colorado to bounce back on Friday but once again the best look in this game will be the over.

Any total under 9 in a game played at the altitude in Coors Field is a good look especially with the pitching matchup we get here. Austin Gomber and Aaron Sanchez both have ERAs north of 4.00 with Sanchez’s way up at 7.16. It’s going to be a struggle to keep guys off the bases and in turn runs will be scored in bunches. Give me the over.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Over Runs (-102)

Marko Nadin

The Colorado Rockies are at the bottom of the NL West with a 20-24 record. They have lost 4 of the last 5 games including a 7-3 loss to open up the series against the Nationals. Colorado is 7th in the league scoring 4.70 runs per game but defensively is where they got hurt as they are ranked 29th in the league allowing 5.56 runs per  game. Colorado will start Austin Gomber tonight who is 2-4 for the season with a 4.11 ERA. The Rockies have won 16 of the last 21 second games of a series.

The Washington Nationals are at the bottom of the NL East with a 16-30 record. They have won 3 of the last 5 games including the last two. The Nationals are 23rd in the league scoring 4.02 runs per game and 27th in the league allowing 5.34 runs per game. Washington will start Aaron Sanchez tonight who is 3-3 for the season with a 7.16 ERA. The Nats have lost 38 of the last 51 home games and 9 of the last 13 games against teams with a losing record.

Marko’s MLB Pick: Colorado Rockies (-102)

Baltimore Orioles @ Boston Red Sox – 7:10PM ET

The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox will be playing the first game of their four game weekend series in this one. The Red Sox are coming off of a series with the Chicago White Sox, while the Orioles are coming off of a series with the New York Yankees.

Tony Battalio

The Baltimore Orioles just finished up a series with their division rivals the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Now after a day of rest they will continue their road trip against another division rival in Boston. As they will meet the Boston Red Sox in a four game weekend series. As expected it’s been a rough start to the year for the Orioles, as they come into this matchup with a record of 18-27 through their first 45 games of the season. It will be their fourth straight series against a divisional opponent and their second time playing the Red Sox this season.

The Boston Red Sox have been pretty hot as of late. They are fresh off of a home stand where they finished with a record of 6-1 after series wins over Houston and Seattle. Now they will return home after a quick three game road trip to Chicago to play the White Sox. This new home stand will consist of four games against the Baltimore Orioles and two against the Cincinnati Reds. In my opinion it is very possible they will post another 6-1 record of even a perfect record of 7-0. But that all starts with getting the win in game number one, which I think they will accomplish here on Friday evening.

Tony’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox (-198)

Jeffery Thomas

The Baltimore Orioles got Thursday off after their series with the New York Yankees and will now prepare for a weekend series with the Boston Red Sox. The Orioles dropped two of three to New York and are now just 4-9 against them on the season. The Boston Red Sox finished off their series with the Chicago White Sox in emphatic fashion, winning 16-7. It was their second time scoring sixteen runs in the series and it appears their offense is really finding it’s groove at the moment.

That’s going to be needed as their record is still below .500 on the season at 21-23 and a series with these Orioles is a good opportunity to stack up some wins. Baltimore is throwing out Kyle Bradish who has given up 9 runs in his last two starts (both losses) and with how well Boston is hitting, it could be another bad outing for Bradish. I like them to keep things rolling in this series opener, blowing out their AL East rivals in the process.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5

Marko Nadin

The Boston Red Sox are fourth in the AL East with a 21-23 record. They have 6 of the last 7 games and are coming off a 2-1 series win against the Chicago White Sox. In both of the two wins against the White Sox, Boston scored 16 runs. The Red Sox are 12th in the league scoring 4.48 runs per game and are 15th allowing 4.20 runs per game. Garrett Whitlock will start for the Red Sox tonight who is 1-1 for the season with a 3.58 ERA. Boston has won the last 5 opening games of a series and the last 4 against teams with a losing record.

The Baltimore Orioles are at the bottom of the AL East with a 18-27 record. They have 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-1 series loss to the New York Yankees. The Orioles are 27th in the league scoring 3.57 runs per game and are 19th in the league allowing 4.41 runs per game. Baltimore will start Kyle Bradish tonight who is 1-3 for the season with a 5.74 ERA. The Orioles have lost 120 of the last 170 opening games of a series and 58 of the last 85 games played on Friday.

Marko’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox (-198)

New York Yankees @ Tampa Bay Rays – 7:10PM ET

The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays will be playing game number two of their four game weekend series in this one. In the first game of the series it was the Yankees who picked up the victory and now they will be looking to clinch at least a share of the series here in game two.

Tony Battalio

The Yankees haven’t won a World Series in over a decade. For the most legendary franchise in the history of Major League Baseball that must feel like a couple centuries at least. However, about a month and a half into the 2022 season it just seems to feel like it may finally be the year that the Yankees put themselves back on top of the baseball mountain where they rightfully belong. This series is a great measuring stick for both the Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays as the Rays are the most recent American League East team to play for a commissioner’s trophy, despite the fact that they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On top of this series being a great test of strength for both of these heavyweights. It’s also a potential playoff preview as these two teams are predicted to be in the playoffs this season along with another American League East team, the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees and Rays currently occupy the top two spots in the division and two of the top five records in the American League. as the Yankees are 32-13 through 45 games and the Rays are 26-18 through 34 games. As for the result of the second game of the season between these two teams I am going with the Yankees to grab the victory.

Tony’s MLB Pick: New York Yankees (+110)

Jeffery Thomas

The New York Yankees ended their series with the Baltimore Orioles winning the last two and carried that momentum into a blowout win in the series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. Nestor Cortes pitched a gem, going 8 innings strong allowing just 1earned run. Aaron Judge continued his great season, tallying up 2 RBI in the win. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Rays who sit in 2nd place and will move back further from the division leading Yankees.

There were a lot of runs from one side on Thursday but with two great pitchers going on Friday I don’t see a lot of offense being produced. Jameson Taillon is coming off a one run outing, while Jeffrey Springs hasn’t given up a run in two starts. Give me the under in this one.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Under Runs (-122)

Marko Nadin

The Tampa Bay Rays are second in the AL East with a 26-18 record. They have won 3 of the last 5 games but are coming off a 7-2 loss last night to the New York Yankees. The Rays are 14th in the league scoring 4.34 runs per game and are 13th allowing 4.07 runs per game. They will start Jeffrey Springs who is 2-1 for the season with a 1.32 ERA. Tampa Bay has won 40 of the last 54 games against a right-handed starting pitcher and 15 of the last 21 games played on Friday.

The New York Yankees are on top of the AL East with a 32-13 record. They have won the last three games after dropping the previous three. The Yankees are 6th in the league scoring 4.77 runs per game and are ranked the best in the league allowing 3.15 runs per game. The Yankees will start Jameson Taillon who is 4-1 for the season with a 2.95 ERA. The Yankees have won 8 of the last 9 games against teams with a winning record and the last 6 games as underdogs.

Marko’s MLB Pick: New York Yankees (+110)

Pittsburgh Pirates @ San Diego Padres – 9:40PM ET

The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres will be playing the first game of their three game weekend series in this one. The Pirates are starting their west coast road trip fresh off a series at home with Colorado, while San Diego is coming off of hosting the Milwaukee Brewers.

Tony Battalio

The Pittsburgh Pirates will come into this game in the middle of a span of facing off against National League West teams. They just finished up a three game set with the Colorado Rockies, where they took two out of three. Now they will face the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers on this six game trip and finish with the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three game weekend series at home. They’ve played eight games on the road in the month of May and they are 3-5, overall on the season they are 7-11 in 18 games. They have one series win on the road all year long, coming against the Chicago Cubs at historic Wrigley Field.

The San Diego Padres have had a decent start to the 2022 Major League Baseball season and they are doing it all without their best player, Fernando Tatis. They come into this weekend series with a record of 28-16 as they are twelve games above .500 through their first 44 contests on the year. They find themselves in second place of the National League West as well, as they trail the Dodgers by a slim margin. However, it’s been a rough start to their current six game homestand as they lost two of three to the National League Central leading Milwaukee Brewers. Despite the slow start however, I have them winning game one of this series.

Tony’s MLB Pick: San Diego Padres (-205)

Jeffery Thomas

The San Diego Padres will host the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend and hope to commute their success over the bad teams in baseball. They’ve swept all six games against the Reds, won three of four against the Marlins and already won two wins over these Pirates in three meetings. It’s a much needed matchup for them coming off two rough losses to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Pirates are coming off a 2-4 homestand and now travel West for this series and then one against the LA Dodgers. It may look like an extreme mismatch but Pittsburgh has won three of Jose Quintana’s last four starts. Their offense also could generate something at the plate, as Sean Manaea’s struggled continue. He’s given up 3+ runs I. Five straight starts and hasn’t recorded a win in any of them. I like this spot for the Pirates to keep it close.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates +1.5 (-137)

Marko Nadin

The San Diego Padres are second in the NL West with a 28-16 record. They are coming off back-to-back losses to the Milwaukee Brewers after winning the previous five games. The Padres are 15th in the league scoring 4.32 runs per game and are 5th in the league allowing 3.73 runs per game. San Diego will start Sean Manaea tonight who is 2-3 for the season with a 4.04 ERA. The Padres have won the last 5 games when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are third in the NL Central with a 18-25 record. They have lost 4 of the last 6 games but are coming off a 10-5 win over the Colorado Rockies. Pittsburgh is 29th in the league scoring 3.48 runs per game and 28th defensively allowing 5.45 runs per game. The Pirates will start Jose Quintana tonight who is 1-2 for the season with a 2.43 ERA. The Pirates have won 10 of the last 14 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game and have lost 20 of the last 27 games following a win.

Marko’s MLB Pick: San Diego Padres (-205)

Houston Astros @ Seattle Mariners – 9:40PM ET

The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners will be playing the first game of their three game weekend series in this one. These two American League West rivals will be meeting for the third time this season and for the second time in Seattle. They will meet again in around ten days back in Houston as well.

Tony Battalio

It is fair to say that the Houston Astros have been the most consistent team in Major League Baseball over the last five years or so. They are off to another hot start this season as they come into this game with a record of 29-16 through their first 45 games of the 2022 season. They are coming off of a series win over the Cleveland Guardians where they bounced back from a game one loss to take the last two. They are battle tested this month on the road as they are 7-4 coming into this game. When this month ends they will have played a total of 16 road games, which is a season high at the moment.

The Seattle Mariners are a young team with a lot to prove in the next half decade or so. Unfortunately for them this year they are doing what most young teams tend to do and that’s lose a lot of ball games. As they come into this game with a record of 18-27 through their first 45 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have also gotten their six game homestand off to a bad start after losing two of three to the Oakland Athletics. In fact they haven’t won a home series this month as they’ve dropped games to Oakland, Tampa Bay, and Philadelphia. It has been a drastic change from April where they went 7-2 against Houston, Texas, and Kansas City at home. As for the result of game one of this series I am going with the Astros to get the win.

Tony’s MLB Pick: Houston Astros (-194)

Jeffery Thomas

The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners come into this AL West series as the teams occupying the first place spot and last place spots in the division. First place of course belongs to Houston, who just continues to put great seasons together despite losing so many stars from their core. The Seattle Mariners had hoped of taking that next step after a few free agency moved but things just have not worked out. Seattle holds the longest playoff drought in all of professional sports (20 years) and it appears that it will continue this season if things don’t change drastically.

On Friday it’s a huge pitching mismatch as ace Justin Verlander takes the bump against Chris Flexen. They have opposite records on the year, 6-1 for Verlander and 1-6 for Flexen, and there’s just no real reason to back Seattle here. The Astros already swept the Mariners earlier this month and I think we are in store for yet another one this weekend.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick: Houston Astros -1.5 (-114)

Marko Nadin

The Seattle Mariners are at the bottom of the AL West with a 18-27 record. They have lost 6 of the last 7 games and are coming off a 2-1 series loss to the Oakland Athletics. The Mariners are 22nd in the league scoring 4.08 runs per game and 24th in the league allowing 4.74 runs per game. Seattle will start Chris Flexen tonight who is 1-6 for the season with a 4.98 ERA. Seattle has won the last 4 games following a day off and 16 of the last 23 games played on Friday.

The Houston Astros are on top of the AL West with a 29-16 record. They have won 4 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-1 series win over the Cleveland Guardians. The Astros are third in the league allowing 3.24 runs per game and are 16th scoring 4.30 runs per game. Houston will start Justin Verlander tonight who is 6-1 for the season with a 1.22 ERA. The Astros have won the last 5 games after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game and 7 of the last 9 games as road favorites.

Marko’s MLB Pick: Houston Astros (-194)
