Los Angeles Dodgers @ Washington Nationals – 7.05PM ET

The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers will kick off our Friday night MLB schedule with the second match of their three game series in the nation’s capital.

Los Angeles drew first blood in game one of this set on Thursday, winning the series opener 6-2. With the game tied 2-2 at the top of the fifth, Max Muncy hit a timely grand slam to give the Dodgers a 6-2 lead before weather brought an end to the game after five innings.

After three shutout innings to start the match, Patrick Corbin conceded five earned runs in his final 1.2 innings with the ball.

Julio Urias will make his 17th start of the season for the Dodgers on Friday. Urias has a 9-3 record, 3.95 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 107 strikeouts from 93.1 innings of action this year. The southpaw will be looking to have a much better month in July than he did in June, as Urias’ 4.85 ERA through five starts last month was his worst return this year.

Washington will counter with Max Scherzer on Friday. Scherzer has shown no signs of slowing down as he approaches his 37th birthday, owning a 7-4 record from 15 starts this season, to go along with a 2.14 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 119 strikeouts from just 88.1 innings of work. The right hander has thrown 11 innings across his last two starts, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in that time.

Although Scherzer has been in awesome form this season, Washington’s lineup has often failed to capitalize on his advantage at the mound, as they have been held to three or fewer runs in five out of his last six starts. Considering that the Nationals will be coming up against Julio Urias on Friday, we like the Dodgers to win this matchup on the road. Los Angeles are averaging 5.03 runs per game in 2021, and Urias has held Washington to just six runs in 17.1 career innings with the ball.

New York Mets @ New York Yankees – 7.05PM ET

The New York Yankees will host the New York Mets in the opening game of the Subway Series on Friday, with the bragging rights for the entire city of New York on the line.

As a result of having the fourth and final game of their series against the Angels postponed due to inclement weather, the Yankees will have to wait until August 16th for their chance to tie the set at 2-2. Although they are currently down 1-2 in the series, New York have outscored Los Angeles 22-21 through the three games.

As for the Mets, they recently lost the final game of their series against the Braves in Atlanta, going down 3-4. New York won the series opener 4-3 before they were outscored 5-24 in their following two losses. Jacob deGrom was hit for three runs on Thursday, marking the first time that he has conceded three earned runs this season.

Taijuan Walker will make his 15th start of the season for the Mets on Friday. The right-hander has a 6-3 record, 2.38 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 82 strikeouts from 79.1 innings of action this year. Walker is 2-3 with a 3.32 ERA on the road this season, and he owns a 0-1 career record against the Yankees which has seen him allow seven runs in 5.2 innings.

The Yankees will send Jordan Montgomery to the mound for his 16th start of the season. The southpaw has a 3-2 record in 2021, to go along with a 4.06 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 80 strikeouts from 82 innings of work. With a 3.77 ERA through five starts in June, Montgomery is coming off his best month of the season.

Although their offense has struggled recently, the Mets are playing better baseball than the Yankees so far this season. As well as that, the Mets have won 11 of the 14 games that Walker has started this season and we like the right-hander to get another win on the board on Friday. Especially when considering that the Yankees are also a bottom 10 scoring team in the league.

Tampa Bay Rays @ Toronto Blue Jays – 7.07PM ET

A pair of AL East rivals will kick off their three game series in Buffalo on Friday night when the third placed Blue Jays host the second placed Rays.

Tampa Bay were recently swept in their two game set against the Nationals in Washington. As a result of being outscored 9-19 across their two losses, the Rays will enter Friday’s series opener having lost each of their past three games.

As for Toronto, they will also be looking for a bounce back victory on Friday after recently dropping the final two games of their series against Seattle. Although the Blue Jays have a 7-3 record from their last 10 games, they are just 3-3 in their past six.

Alek Manoah will make his seventh start of the season for Toronto on Friday. The right hander has a 1-0 record, 3.34 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 33 strikeouts from 29.2 innings of action this year. Manoah is coming off his best start of the season, having thrown six innings for zero runs on four hits.

Although it is not confirmed, Luis Patino is expected to get his sixth start of the season for the Rays on Friday. The right hander has a 1-1 record and 3.60 ERA from 15 innings of action this season. After allowing four earned runs in 3.1 innings against the Orioles in his last start, Patino now owns a 7.11 ERA on the road this season.

As both sides are looking for a win, this is shaping up to be an enticing matchup between the second and third placed teams in the AL East. Seeing as Toronto are averaging 5.12 runs per game in 2021 and 6.1 runs per game from their past 10 matches, we are going to take the Blue Jays at home in this matchup. Especially when considering that Tampa’s Luis Patino has struggled on the road this season (7.11 ERA) and he is coming off a poor start against the lowly Orioles.

Minnesota Twins @ Kansas City Royals – 8.10PM ET

The two bottom teams in the AL Central will face off in Kansas City on Friday night when the last placed Royals host the fourth placed Twins in the first match of their three game series.

Kansas City will be looking to bounce back to form after being swept in their four game series against the Red Sox in Boston. The Royals were outscored 14-34 across their four losses, and their active losing streak has now extended to nine consecutive games.

Similarly, Minnesota will be looking to redeem themselves after being swept in their three game series against the White Sox in Chicago. The Twins were outscored 14-28 across their three losses. Minnesota holds a half a game lead over Kansas City in the AL Central.

J.A. Happ will look to return the Twins to the winners list on Friday when he makes his 15th start of the season. The southpaw has a 4-3 record, 5.83 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 55 strikeouts from 71 innings of action this year. Happ has thrown 14.2 innings in his last three starts, allowing 10 earned runs on 20 hits in that time.

Kansas City will send Brady Singer to the mound for his 17th start of the season. Singer has a 3-6 record in 2021, to go along with a 4.70 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 81 strikeouts from 76.2 innings of work. The right hander has allowed just five earned runs in his last three starts, throwing 11.2 innings in that time.

Considering that they have now lost each of their last nine games, we haven’t seen enough from Kansas City recently to suggest that they are capable of a win on Friday. Especially when considering that the Royals will be coming up against a Minnesota team that has a respectable 5-5 record from their last 10 games, and they have scored 5.2 runs per game in that time. As well as that, Kansas City have scored just 2.77 runs per game in their last nine matches, all of which have been losses.

Boston Red Sox @ Oakland Athletics – 9.40PM ET

Two of the best teams in the American League will close out our Friday night MLB schedule when the Oakland Athletics host the Boston Red Sox for the first encounter of their three game series.

As a result of their 15-1 victory on Thursday, Boston recently completed a seven game homestand with a 7-0 record. The Red Sox swept the Yankees in three games and the Royals in four, finishing their stretch at home with a +29 run differential after outsourcing their two opponents 50-21 across the seven victories.

Oakland recently lost their three game series against Texas 1-2, now giving them a 3-4 record from their two recent series against the Rangers. The A’s were outscored 10-14 across the three matches.

Frankie Montas will look to return the A’s to the winners list at home when he makes his 17th start of the year on Friday. The right hander has a 7-7 record in 2021, to go along with a 4.72 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 92 strikeouts from 87.2 innings of action. Montas has allowed 12 earned runs in his last three starts, eight of which came in one outing against Texas.

Boston will counter with  Eduardo Rodriguez at the mound on Friday. Rodriguez has a 6-4 record from 15 starts this season, while he also owns a 5.83 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 93 strikeouts in 78.2 innings. The left hander has a 1-0 record from his last three starts, allowing nine runs on 18 hits in that time.

With a seven game winning streak behind them, we are going to take the Red Sox to win this series opener on the road. Although they have won their last seven games at home, Boston’s 24-14 record on the road is the best of any team in the American League. As well as that, Boston are scoring 7.14 runs per game across their last seven matches and their lineup should be able to put another winning score up against Frankie Montas on Friday. Montas has a 5.28 ERA from his five starts in June, allowing 18 runs and three homers across 29 innings in that time.
