San Diego Padres @ New York Mets – 7:10PM ET

The San Diego Padres and New York Mets will be playing the first game of their three game weekend series in this one. They have met once already, earlier this season in a three game series. The New York Mets lead the season series two games to one coming into the final three games between the teams.

Tony Battalio

The San Diego Padres are coming out of the all-star break in a good position as they are ten games above the .500 mark with a record of 52-42 through their first 94 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in second place in the National League West division. As they are currently ten games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the division at the moment. The Padres went into the break having won four of their last ten games and are currently on a one game losing streak.

The New York Mets have been one of the best teams in Major League Baseball this season. They come into the second half of the season with a record of 58-35 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They won six out of their last ten games heading into the break but are currently on a one game losing streak. I have them picking up the win in this game coming out of the all star break.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

New York Mets (-175)

The start of the second half of the season will see the New York Mets hosting the San Diego Padres on Friday night in the start of a three-game weekend series. The Mets spent basically the entirety of the first half of the season in first place in the NL East despite getting less than 70 total innings from star pitchers Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer. All of those innings came from Scherzer who will be getting the start on Friday and looking to add to his 6-1 record on the year. The Padres will be throwing out their ace Yu Darvish as he makes his second start versus New York this year.

The first meeting was a dominant performance by the Japanese pitcher who threw 7 innings of two-hit ball in a 7-0 home win. Both pitchers have had immense success in their careers against the teams they are about to face and I think the total is rightfully set so low. I don’t see a lot of offense in this one and we could see both pitchers going 7+ innings in a low-scoring duel so give me the under.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Under Total Runs (-105)

Toronto Blue Jays @ Boston Red Sox – 7:10PM ET

The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox will be playing the first game of their three game weekend series in this one. These two American League East teams have met three times already this year. The Toronto Blue Jays currently lead the season series seven games to two.

Tony Battalio

The Toronto Blue Jays had an underwhelming first half of the season and come into the second half of the year with a record of 50-43 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in third place of the American League East division as they trail the New York Yankees by thirteen and a half games at the moment. They have won five out of their last ten games on the year and are currently on a three game winning streak.

The Boston Red Sox also had a solid first half of the 2022 Major League Baseball season as they come into the second half of the year with a record of 48-45 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in fourth place of the American League East division as they trail the Yankees by fifteen and a half games.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Toronto Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox will face the Toronto Blue Jays fresh out of the break as the Sox conclude this 17-game stretch against AL East opponents. Boston is two games back in the wild race and will need to start making some headway if they want to be a part of this year’s postseason. Things will not come easy in this series however, as Toronto showed in the June 27-29 series when they took two of three from Boston. The Jays have been firing on all cylinders since having to let go of manager Charlie Montoyo, going 5-1 in the six games since.

The 1-9 stretch that led to the firing of Montoyo dropped the Jays down to third in the wild card race but they are still right in it and feel good about how the first half of the season went. It should be a good start to the second half as well, and I see Toronto getting the job done of the road in this one. They are the better team at the moment and Boston has had their struggles against divisional foes and I don’t see that improving in this series.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Toronto Blue Jays

Los Angeles Angels @ Atlanta Braves – 7:20PM ET

The Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves will be playing the first game of their three game weekend series in this one. This is the first and only time these two teams will meet this season. So both teams will be looking to take the short three game season series for themselves.

Tony Battalio

The Los Angeles Angels will be hoping that they can use the all star break to recover from the rough ending they had to the first half of the year. After a fantastic start to the 2022 Major League Baseball season they collapsed in epic fashion. Now they will enter the back half of the year with a record of 39-53 through their first 92 games on the year. They went into the break having lost eight out of their last ten games on the year as they are currently on a three game losing streak.

The Atlanta Braves are the defending World Series champions and coming into the second half of the 2022 Major League Baseball season I can confidently say that they have a really good shot at going back to back. They will come into their weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels with a record of 56-38 through their first 94 games on the year. They are in second place of the National League East at the moment as they trail the New York Mets by only two and a half games. They have won seven out of their last ten games on the year as well.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Atlanta Braves (-155)

Superstar Shohei Ohtani will make his first career appearance in Atlanta on Friday night to pitch against the defending World Series champion Braves. He will hope to turn things around for his Angels team that went into the break losing eight of nine games and now sit 21 games back of the first-place Houston Astros in the division. The Atlanta Braves bounced back from a slow start and championship hangover to close the gap with the New York Mets to just 2.5 games in the NL East.

Braves starter Charlie Morton will be getting the ball in this one and should feel great about his chances to improve his career numbers against LAA. He is 4-1 against them in his career and last faced them back in 2019 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. Now Morton faces them as a member of the Braves who are a much better team than these struggling Angels and should get a routine victory on Friday.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Atlanta Braves (-155)

Cleveland Guardians @ Chicago White Sox – 8:10PM ET

The Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox will be playing the first game of their four game weekend series in this one. These two American League Central teams have met three times already this year. The Cleveland Guardians currently lead the season series six games to three.

Tony Battalio

It was a surprising yet shocking first half of the season for the Cleveland Guardians as not many people would’ve expected them to come into the all star break over the .500 mark. Many people had them picked to be one of the worst teams in all of Major League Baseball this season as it looked like it was going to be a rebuilding year. However, they come into this game with a record of 46-44 through their first 90 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have won six out of their last ten games on the season and are currently on a three game winning streak.

The Chicago White Sox didn’t have as good of a first half to the season as they would have expected. As they were projected to be the clear front runner in the American League Central division but it never quite materialized for them. They come into the second half of the year looking to turn things around as they are in huge need of a momentum boost this weekend against the Guardians. As they come into this series with a record of 46-46 through their first 92 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Cleveland Guardians (+125)

Jeffery Thomas

The Chicago White Sox are hoping for a much better second half of the season after going 46-46 into the All Star break. They were a trendy pick for the World Series in the offseason after some success last year but for some reason things just haven’t clicked yet to get them back to that level. They showed flashes heading into the break however, winning 7 of 10 games and now trails the second place Cleveland Guardians by just one game in the division. It just so happens that Cleveland is their opponent for this weekend and things can change so much over the course of these next four games. The Guardians will have some confidence heading in as the higher team in the standings and also owning a 6-3 record in the head-to-head this season.

The White Sox have a great chance to win this one at home against Cleveland’s Cal Quantrill who is just 1-1 with a pretty bad 5.84 ERA against the Sox this year. Chicago’s Lucas Giolito on the other hand just got a win over the Guardians last week and owns a 1.77 ERA against them in 12 career starts. I like him to lead his guys to the victory on Friday night and make the division a little more interesting.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Chicago White Sox (-150)

Houston Astros @ Seattle Mariners – 10:10PM ET

The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners will be playing the first game of their three game weekend series in this one. These two American League West teams have met four times already this year. Both teams have won the same number of games and the season series is tied at six wins each.

Tony Battalio

The Houston Astros grabbed themselves a ton of momentum on Thursday afternoon and evening when they swept a doubleheader against the best team in the league. They beat the New York Yankees by a combined score of 10-7 and improved their season record against them to five and two to officially clinch the season series as well. Now they will get to play the red hot Seattle Mariners in a huge American League West division matchup. The Astros come into this game with a record of 61-32 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

The Seattle Mariners have been the hottest team in Major League Baseball throughout the month of July. They are coming into the second half of the season with a record of 51-42 through their first 93 games of the year. They are also currently on a fourteen game winning streak as well and have not lost a series since the middle of June. They are only ten games back of the Astros for first place in the division and could gain some series ground as well as nearly clinch the season series with a couple of victories this weekend.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Seattle Mariners (+100)

Jeffery Thomas

The Houston Astros got the perfect start to the second half of the season by sweeping a doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Thursday. Those games sent a message to the top team in the league that the American League will not be easy to take and it might just have to go through Houston. That matchup has been a great one for the Astros who have yet to trail against the Yankees in all their meetings this season besides after the final pitch of two walk-off wins for New York. They’ll need to bottle up that momentum for this series against the Seattle Mariners who went into the break red-hot. The Ms have won 14 straight and thrust themselves right into a playoff spot via the Wild Card as of right now.

Astros starter Jose Urquidy hasn’t had great success against Seattle this season, giving up 15 runs in three starts (13 innings), and now gets them on their hot streak. Seattle’s pitcher Marcos Gonzales has surprisingly seen some success in this matchup, only giving up 6 runs in 20.1 innings and I don’t think an underdog win is out of the question here for the Mariners. I like them to take advantage of what may be a tired Houston team after having to travel in late after a doubleheader.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Seattle Mariners (+100)
