Tampa Bay Rays @ Baltimore Orioles – 7.05PM ET
The top of the AL East gets on the road to take on the bottom of the AL East as the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Baltimore Orioles. These sides met for four games last week with Tampa sweeping the table but Baltimore have returned to their winning ways of late.
While the Orioles will be feeling nice after back to back wins, following their 19-game losing streak, I think the losing returns tonight. Tampa Bay is a class outfit and showed that against Baltimore just last week. That four game sweep saw the Rays outscore the Orioles by 26 runs and score no less than seven in each of the four games. There is a reason why there is a 38.5 games difference between the two sides and I expect that to be on full show in this one. With Matt Harvey starting for Baltimore, I expect Tampa to be able to put some runs on the board early, apply pressure and then break the Orioles down innings by innings.
Tim’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 (-134)

Well, well, well, don’t the Orioles have that winning feeling now? They have won two games in a row, and both games by pretty big margins against the Angels. But coming up against the Rays is a massive step up! The Rays have won eight of their previous 10 games, and played the Orioles not too long ago and smashed them out of the park. The Rays have won six of their previous seven games after having a day off, and they have won 12 of their previous 16 games on the road. The Orioles have won just 16 of their previous 66 games when playing a team in the AL East and they have won only 19 of their previous 63 games at home. The Orioles do have that winning feeling now, but I don’t think it will last for long, the Rays should put them back in their place in this Friday night clash.
Katherine’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 (-134)
San Francisco Giants @ Atlanta Braves – 7.20PM ET
The NL East-leading Atlanta Braves host the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants for a three game series, with the first of those being held tonight. The Braves have a five game lead in their division while the Giants’ lead is just 2.5 games, with this game meaning everything for both clubs.
This is sure to be a ripper of a contest between two top level teams and what could be a preview of a postseason matchup. Both teams are starting some of their best pitchers in this one and I’m expecting a low scoring, tightly contested affair. The Braves have seen three of their last five games have a total of six or less while the Giants have had four of their last six do the same. Given both starting pitchers have an ERA under 3.50 and a positive record so far this season, I am inclined to take the under in this one.
The Braves are coming off a 0-2 series loss to the Yankees, but before that series they had actually won nine games in a row. Whereas, the Giants are coming off a 3-0 series win against the Mets, and they are currently sitting on a five game winning streak. One key recent stat that doesn’t really support the Giants at the moment is that they have won just one of their previous five games on a Friday, but they have won 26 of their previous 36 when it comes to the first game of a series. On the flip side now, the Braves have won six of their previous seven when it comes to the first game of a series, and they have won seven of their previous 10 games on a Friday. The Braves have also won eight of their previous 10 clashes with the Giants! I can see why the Giants are the underdogs for this game, but it doesn’t change the fact that they are one of, if not, the best teams in the league, so they aren’t just going to roll over here.
Katherine’s MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants +1.5 (TBA)
Chicago Cubs @ Chicago White Sox – 8.10PM ET
The second and final battle of Chicago for the season as the White Sox host the Cubs for a three game series. Last time these sides met the White Sox won all three games by a combined 21-9.
While this seems like a massive mismatch in favour of the White Sox, the Cubs have the better starting pitcher and I think that may make a difference here. Keegan Thompson has a very impressive ERA of 2.42 and from his two starts this season, he has pitched 7.2 innings for just two runs. This is while Dallas Keuchel’s last performance saw him allow six runs from five innings against the Rays. However, the difference is the White Sox are at home, albeit just across the city. Keuchel performs better at home while Thompson hasn’t started on the road and is 0-2 from his 16 games when travelling. The White Sox, helped by Keuchel’s performances at home, are the better team, have a better batting lineup, and should get the job done here.

The Cubs are coming off a 2-1 series win against the Rockies, and their recent form has been anything but consistent, they have won just four of their previous 10 games in total. The White Sox are coming off a series tie, 2-2, with the Blue Jays, and they have also been pretty inconsistent as of late, winning five of their previous 10 games. The Cubs are really struggling on the road as of late, they have only won seven of their previous 28 and they have won just five of their previous 21 when playing a team with a left handed starter. On the other hand, the White Sox have won seven of their previous eight when it comes to the first game of a series, and they have won 57 of their previous 83 when playing a team that has a losing record. It’s got to be the White Sox for men.
Katherine’s MLB Pick: Chicago White Sox (-235)
Milwaukee Brewers @ Minnesota Twins – 8.10PM ET
A lopsided series kicks off tonight as the Minnesota Twins host the Milwaukee Brewers for a three game series. The Twins sit on the bottom of the AL Central while the Brewers are 8.5 games clear on top of the NL Central.
The Twins come into this on the back of winning just one of their last six games, getting swept by the Yankees before losing 1-2 to the Red Sox. That isn’t the sort of form you want to be bringing into a matchup against a Milwaukee side that has won five straight series and are 49-24 against teams below 0.500. Minnesota is starting Andrew Albers, who has had just one game of action since 2017. He pitched four innings of relief work and allowed just one run from those in an impressive showing. While that may be a positive sign heading into this matchup, he has a career ERA of 4.04 and the Brewers are a top three batting lineup over the last two weeks of play. Add in the fact that they are coming off a home loss and they have a point to prove in this one.
The Brewers are coming off a 2-1 series win against the Reds, like all season so far, the Brewers have been playing consistently well and they are eight and a half games ahead of their closest rivals in the NL Central. The Twins are coming off a 1-2 series loss to the Red Sox, they put up a fairly decent fight in the first two games, but were blown out of the water in the third and final game, losing that one, 2-12. The Brewers have won eight of their previous 10 when it comes to the first game of a series, and they have won four of their previous five games on a Friday. The Twins have won four of their previous five games at home, and they have won just one of their previous five when it comes to the first game of the series. Lauer has been a great pitcher for the Brewers, and the team just knows how to win, I’ll be on them for the win tonight.
Katherine’s MLB Pick: Milwaukee Brewers (-134)
Colorado Rockies @ Los Angeles Dodgers – 10.10PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers are set for another NL West showdown, this time hosting the Colorado Rockies. LA is fresh off the heels of a 3-0 sweep of the Padres and will now turn their attention to the Rockies who just dropped two of three games to the Cubs.
I’m taking the Dodgers to win the opener by a big margin. They just kept the Padres to five runs across their three game series, while scoring 14 of their own, highlighting their dominance, especially in this division. LA have lost just one game over the last two weeks and will look to continue their quest in chasing down the Giants on top of the division. Meanwhile the Rockies are just 6-4 over their last 10 games, buoyed by a 3-0 win over the Padres and a 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks. However, their most recent series loss to the Cubs is alarming and they stay on the road for this clash, which is one of the keys of the game. Colorado is just 15-47 on the road this season, the worst record in the majors, and will have some serious issues going against the Dodgers tonight.
Tim’s MLB Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (TBA)

— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 27, 2021
The Dodgers are coming off a 3-0 series win against the Padres, but the talk of the town has to be the second game of that series, which went to a mammoth 16 innings, yes you read that correctly! The Rockies are coming off a 1-2 series loss to the Cubs, but the win last time out helped them snap a three game losing streak. The Dodgers have won 67 of their previous 95 games at home and have won 21 of their previous 30 games played on a Friday. The Rockies on the other hand, have won just three of their previous 11 games after they have had a day off and have won just 17 of their previous 66 games when playing in Los Angeles. With the Dodgers great record at home this season, and the Rockies poor record playing in Los Angeles, I think it’s got to be the Dodgers.
Katherine’s MLB Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (TBA)
