President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that, if there is a World Series Game 5 in Washington, he will be in attendance.
However, the President also made clear that he would NOT be throwing out a ceremonial first pitch.
Every president since William Taft in 1910 has thrown out a ceremonial first pitch at some stage during a season, however Trump apparently has no plans to, saying he looks “too heavy” in body armour.
The Washington Nationals currently lead the Houston Astros 2-0 in the seven-game series. Game 3 is scheduled for Friday night, Game 4 is Saturday and a potential Game 5 – no guarantee at this stage – would be on Sunday.
Trump’s presence at the game could cause some controversy, but Nationals pitcher Anibal Sanchez – a Venezualan native – was magnanimous when asked about the issue on Thursday.
“He’s the president of this country. If he want to come to the game, it’s something that he want to do. Of course everybody has to respect that situation.”
