MLB Betting: Are The San Diego Padres Worth a Preseason Bet?

MLB Betting: Are The San Diego Padres Worth a Preseason Bet?
Tue 15th December 2020

The San Diego Padres are one of the most exciting teams in the sport of baseball. Part of this is from the Padres focusing on having fun while playing.

Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. are both among the most appealing players in the game for how well they can compete while also having lots of fun. But there are many other valuable players to explore when looking at the San Diego Padres, including many others who are young and ready to make an impact.

The Padres have the best shot of knocking off the Los Angeles Dodgers from the top of the National League West Division. The MLB betting line for the Padres to win the World Series is at +1300. Here’s a look at why you should consider them when planning a preseason bet.

Young Talent All Around

The Padres have some of the best young stars in the sport, including outfielders Trent Grisham and Wil Myers, plus second baseman Jake Cronenworth. The players have been competing very well as of late, and they are aiming to continue their rise.

Jurickson Profar may depart in the free agency period, so the Padres would have to find a new player in the outfield. The team has plenty of free agency options, but there’s also a chance Tommy Pham will move over to the outfield instead.

There is also hope that MacKenzie Gore will join the Padres at some point. Gore is the top-rated pitching prospect in the sport, as he had a 1.69 ERA during the 2019 minor league season.

Luis Patino is another high-value pitching prospect who made a brief appearance with the Padres last year. He is known for throwing close to a hundred miles per hour throughout many of his relief appearances.

How the Pitching Situation Looks

The odds of the Padres losing starting pitcher Garrett Richards and reliever Kirby Yates to the free agency market are high. But the team still has Zach Davies and Dinelson Lamet at the front of their rotation.

The two are among the best starters most people don’t know about, as they both had sub-3.00 ERAs last year. Matt Strahm also signed a new contract with the Padres to stick around as a setup man.

The team does need a new closer, as Drew Pomeranz ran into trouble on too many occasions last season. He tallied four saves, and he would often require more pitches than necessary on some batters.

The hope for the Padres is to find someone new who can handle pitching duties and be more effective from there. Strahm could become the new closer, although it may be more of a position by committee for 2021.

Should You Bet on the Padres?

The San Diego Padres are one of the best teams you can consider when planning your MLB betting work. You’ll find plenty of positives about the Padres, including some of the best young players in the game. Check out the Padres if you’re looking for someone worthwhile for your MLB betting plans.
