MLB Betting: Are The New York Mets Worth a Preseason Bet?

MLB Betting: Are The New York Mets Worth a Preseason Bet?
Tue 15th December 2020

The New York Mets are entering a new era with Steve Cohen as the team’s new owner. The New York Mets are hoping to get out of their position as New York’s “other” baseball team and become competitive once more. But a major suspension has put the brakes on the Mets’ development for 2021. At the same time, the team will have more money to use to build the team due to that suspension.

The Mets have a +2000 line for winning the upcoming World Series. Let’s look at some points for MLB betting to see if the Mets are a suitable choice for your wagering desires. Much of what will happen with the Mets surrounds whether they will do anything in the free agency market, which looks like a real possibility.

Cano’s Suspension

The most significant story of 2021 will be how second baseman Robinson Cano will be suspended due to another drug violation. Cano had a .316 average last year and was one of the team’s best all-around players.

But while Cano’s suspension will hurt, the Mets do have some extra money to use. The Mets will not have to pay Cano $24 million this season. The team could use those funds to manage many other parts of the team, giving them many opportunities for the free agency market.

Expect Jeff McNeil to be the team’s new second baseman. McNeil had a .311 average last year, and he has a better batter’s eye than Cano.

Will They Go After Realmuto?

The concerns surrounding Wilson Ramos’ performance has led the Mets to look at finding a new catcher. With the team having more money for spending this year, they could go after J.T. Realmuto from the Philadelphia Phillies. Realmuto is one of the top catchers in the game, but the Mets would have to provide a massive contract to him to come out to Flushing Meadows.

A Top Rotation

One MLB betting argument for the 2021 Mets comes from the team’s outstanding rotation. The exciting rotation of Jacob DeGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Marcus Stroman, and David Peterson will make the Mets highly competitive in an already challenging NL East.

What About the Bullpen?

The bullpen for the Mets looks alright, with Edwin Diaz being the top star on this side. But the Mets could benefit from a quality free agent acquisition. Going after Trevor May or Brad Hand would be an appealing option. But it would be tough for the Mets to choose who is right and what positions they should be fitting when getting their setup ready.

Should You Bet on the Mets?

The New York Mets will be an intriguing choice for MLB betting this season. The Mets will be a good betting option that will perform well throughout the season, but there exists a need to see how well the Mets will improve this coming season. The team has a little more flexibility for the season, but it helps to see what could happen in the future and how well the team might compete later.
