Despite being accompanied by one of the best players in PGA Tour history, Charles Barkley’s ‘unique’ swing has resulted in the Phil Mickelson / Charles Barkley team starting as +145 underdogs for this weekend’s The Match 3 Champions of Change.
Mickelson / Barkley are up against future Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and future Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Steph Curry, in the third instalment of The Match, which will be raising money for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Curry / Manning are currently the -182 favourites.
They’re gonna have to put that 24 second shot clock on Chuck for this thing. He’s gonna be burning daylight out there @PhilMickelson 😂😂😂 #TheMatch pic.twitter.com/1Wb38AL9QC

Format:
The 18-hole format is modified alternate shot, meaning each player tees off but then players on the same team swap balls for their second shots. After that, the team determines which ball is better and alternates shots for the rest of the hole.
Golf Picks: Peyton Manning / Steph Curry VS Phil Mickelson / Charles Barkley
When it comes to celebrity golf events, there’s always money to be made for sports bettors. Given that Phil Mickelson is the only pro golfer in the event and he is playing on a course that he owns, it is surprising that Mickelson and Barkley are starting as +145 underdogs.
However, Barkley has not played in a competitive tournament since the American Century Championship in July, the most prominent annual celebrity golf tournament in the United States. Barkley finished the tournament second-to-last, while his opponent for this weekend’s match, Stephen Curry, finished fourth.
Curry is a near-scratch golfer who despite not making the cut, has competed in multiple Korn Ferry Tour events (one step down from PGA Tour). Peyton Manning is a solid player who will not let the occasion get the better of him, having outplayed former NFL rival Tom Brady as the non-pro golfers in the previous instalment of The Match earlier this year.
Given that the match will be played at Stone Canyon Golf Club in Arizona, a course owned by Phil Mickelson and one that Charles Barkley is familiar with, The Match 3 will likely be a close one. However, in this format of golf, you are only as strong as your weakest link, making Manning / Curry the best bet for this weekend at -182. As the best / most even team across the board has the advantage in alternating stroke play.
Golf Prediction: Manning / Curry WIN (-182)
