Free Golf Picks For The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic
Tue 29th June 2021

The PGA Tour will continue their east coast stretch when they meet for the third Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club this week!

Take a look at our best golf picks for the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic below:

Best Bet To Win The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic:

Bryson DeChambeau (+700)

The pre-tournament favorite rarely takes out the win in PGA Tour events, however Bryson DeChambeau looks too strong for this weekend’s field in Detroit. DeChambeau will return to defend his 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic title, and the world No. 6 is only one of two top 10 ranked golfers in the field.

When looking at his form coming into the event, DeChambeau has finished T38, T18, T26 and T19 in his past four starts. However, DeChambeau’s T26 came after a +6 final round capitulation at the U.S Open and his T19 came at last weekend’s Travelers Championship, where he scraped into the top 20 despite not performing at his best.

The 2020 U.S Open champion will now return to the Detroit Golf Club where he was victorious at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. With an average driving distance that exceeded 350 yards, the longest in PGA Tour history by a tournament winner, DeChambeau hit three bombs at last year’s event that were worth half-a-stroke or more Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee.

The remainder of the field combined for three. The world No. 2 also birdied the 16th, 17th and 18th holes for a final round 65 that saw him take out the tournament by three strokes in 2020. Given that there are four par five holes on the course, we like DeChambeau’s long and strong style of play to once again lead him to a victory at the Detroit Golf Club. Especially when considering that the 2020 champion has also gained strokes with his putter in seven of his past 11 starts, which will complement his renowned driving ability.

Best Bet For A Top Five Finish At The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic:

Gary Woodland (+900)

From one former U.S Open champion to another, we like Gary Woodland to continue his return to form with a top five finish at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Woodland’s 2020 season was hindered by a shoulder injury that ruled him out for the majority of last year’s tour.

Now pain free, world No. 59 has recorded a T6 finish at the Valero Texas Open in April and a standalone fifth placed finish at the Wells Fargo Championship in May. Already a six time winner of the PGA Tour, Woodland is clearly capable of taking it up to the best players in the world, and we like him to add another strong performance to his 2021 comeback season at the Detroit Golf Club this week.

Like DeChambeau, Woodland is capable of hitting a ball long and straight, ranking 10th for driving distance on the PGA Tour this season with a 311.5 average. Seeing as the 37 year old has gained strokes off the tee in eight of his past 14 starts, and he has gained strokes on approach in nine of those same 14 events, Woodland’s driving distance and accuracy on approach should see him in the mix for a win at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Best Bet For A Top 10 Finish At The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic:

Matthew Wolff (+290)

Following an impressive performance at the Detroit Golf Club last year, 2020 runner-up Matthew Wolff is our pick for a top 10 finish at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic. If Bryson DeChambeau didn’t birdie the 16th, 17th and 18th last year, we may have been talking about Matthew Wolff as the defending champion this week, as DeChambeau’s final round 65 saw him overcome a three shot deficit to win by three strokes.

The 22 year old recently took almost two months away from the tour to address on-going mental health issues. Wolff returned to compete at the U.S Open earlier this month, where he finished T15, and the Travelers Championship last week, where he missed the cut.

After shooting a third round 64 to take a three shot lead into the final round, Wolff shot a final round 71, six shots worse than eventual champion Bryson DeChambeau’s 65. His runner up finish last year was one of five top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour in 43 career starts.

As he has had an interrupted season, incoming form will not be much of a factor for Wolff this week. However, as a two time top five finisher in major tournaments and a proven performer at the Detroit Golf Club, we like the world No. 32 to continue his return to the tour with a top 10 finish at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic this week.
