The 84th edition of the Masters at the fabled Augusta National Golf Club will be the final major tournament on the golfing calendar after being postponed to November due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now only one month out from the historic event, we wanted to look at who the favourites are to win the green jacket and be named champion at Augusta.
Top 3 Favourites to win the Masters
Bryson DeChambeau (USA): +800
In 2020 DeChambeau has undergone a much-publicised physical transformation, adding 20kgs of muscle in just nine months in an attempt to improve his health and his golf game. As a result of the added muscle, DeChambeau has added yardage to his game, hitting longer drives than ever and transforming his style of play.
Following the suspension of the PGA tour and the announcement that the tournament was going to be played in November, DeChambeau was given odds of +2850 to win the Masters.
However, due to his post COVID-19 lockdown physical transformation and his success in the PGA Tour’s return to play, DeChambeau surged into +1000 contention.
After being the only player to finish under par, DeChambeau took out the US Open in September at the notoriously difficult Winged Foot. The convincing 6 stroke victory was the first major championship of DeChambeau’s career.
One month out from the event, Bryson DeChambeau has stormed into +800 favouritism to win the upcoming Masters, as he looks to add another major trophy to go along with his most recent US open victory.
Rory McIlroy (IRE): +1000
Despite being one of the most accomplished golfers of his generation, Rory McIlroy is still on the hunt for his maiden green jacket.
Following the completion of the 2019 tournament, McIlroy and Dustin Johnson opened as the equal second favourites (+1000) to win the 2020 Masters, trailing the 2019 champion, Tiger Woods (+900).
At the beginning of 2020 McIlroy shared +900 favouritism with Brooks Koepka, before becoming the standalone +625 favourite following the announcement that the event would be postponed until November.
In the lead up to last month’s US Open, McIlroy and Dustin Johnson were the co-favourites to win the Masters in November. Now a month out from the event McIlroy (+1000) only trails 2020 US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau (+900).
Having finished in the top 10 at Augusta in five of his last six starts, McIlroy presents great value to capture his first green jacket at +1000.
Already with victories at the three other major tournaments, a win at Augusta would make McIlroy the sixth player in history to achieve the career Grand Slam.
Dustin Johnson (USA): +1100
After finishing his 2019 tournament at Augusta equal second, Dustin Johnson has proven that he is capable of competing for the Masters title and a genuine chance to claim his first green jacket.
Johnson opened as the second favourite to win the Masters at +1000. However, after finishing equal 48th in his last tour event prior to the COVID-19 lockdown, the current world number one drifted to +1600, his longest odds to win the 2020 Masters.
In the PGA Tour’s return from the COVID-19 lockdown, Johnson tied for 6th at the WGC-Fedex St. Jude invitational, tied for 2nd at the PGA Championship and most recently tied for 6th at the US Open. As a result of these strong performances, Johnson is once again considered a realistic prospect to win the Masters in November.
A month out from the event, Johnson sits as the third favourite to win the Masters at +1100 odds. With three runner-ups, a third-place finish, and three other top 10’s from 16 events in 2020, Johnson is playing some great golf this year and is every chance to add a second major championship to his trophy cabinet at Augusta next month.
Also in the mix:
Jon Rahm (SPN): +1100
Justin Thomas (USA): +1200
Brooks Koepka (USA): +1400
Tiger Woods (USA): +2000
