Army vs Navy – 3pm ET

The most respected rivalry in the country returns for yet another edition. For the fifth year in a row, the Commander-In-Chief’s trophy will be on the line as the Army meets the Navy in this prime time match-up.

For the 122nd time, Army and Navy square off in the always entertaining “America’s Game.” Both teams run their respective offenses on the ground as 8-3 Army had ten players with 100 or more yards on the ground this year; Navy had seven men with 100+ yards. Navy was only 2-8 on the year, but they had much tougher opponents than the Black Knights. Navy is in the American Athletic Conference and faced off against teams including Cincinnati (who they only to by 7) and Notre Dame. So it’s important to not be fooled by the records. That being said,  Army’s offense has scored 50 or more points three times this year. I think they’ll edge out Navy for the Commander-In-Chief’s trophy, in a game that should have plenty of option plays and entertaining run schemes.

It is time for the 122nd overall meeting between the United States Armed Forces Academy and the United States Naval Academy on Saturday, December 11th at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Navy leads the overall series with a record of 61-53-7, as Navy has dominated most of the last two decades as they have won 16 of the 21 meetings. However, it is the Army that has won four of the last five meetings between these two respected institutions. For the fifth year in a row, the Commander-In-Chief’s trophy will be on the line, however, due to the records, the physical trophy will stay with the Army. For those that do not know, the Commander-In-Chief’s trophy is a yearly trophy awarded to the winner of the round-robin games between the Naval Academy, the Armed Forces Academy, and the Air Force Academy.

Much like the overall series and last two decades, the Navy has won the majority of the Commander-In-Chief’s trophy. They have won a total of 11 since the year 200, while the Air Force has won 7, but again much like this game over the last 5 years the Army has won 4 of the last 5, including this year’s physical trophy. As for the 2021 results, the Navy is 0-1 having lost to Air Force, while Army is 1-0 having beat Air Force. Army comes into this game at 8-3, while Navy enters at 3-8. As for the result of this game, I expect the Army to pick up another victory in this all-important rivalry.

In the 122nd edition of America’s Game, we get the two most popular military institutions (and the two most exciting option teams) in college football going head to head. This is a series that the Navy has virtually dominated for 2+ decades now, as they’ve won 16 of the past 21 meetings dating back to 1999. However, that has flipped as of late, as Army has turned the tables and has won four of the last five meetings.

As for this season, Army has been the class of the military academies, coming in at 8-3, with two of their losses being close losses to Wisconsin and Wake Forest. The offense, despite being run first, consistently puts up 50+, and the defense, apart from one game against Wake, has been reasonably solid all year as well.

Navy comes in at 3-8 and hasn’t even looked as good as their record for much of the year. They run a similar offense, but the scheme hasn’t worked as well as of late, and they’ve struggled to get consistent play at QB, which is a staple of the option offense. One other thing to keep in mind is that the under is always the safe bet in games with military academies, so take a chance and look to grab a parlay in this one, taking Army and the Under.
