Heisman Trophy Odds: The Top 5 Contenders, Week 14

Heisman Trophy Odds: The Top 5 Contenders, Week 14
Thu 3rd December 2020

Week 13 of college football saw the Heisman Trophy contenders step up the ante while it also saw a much-anticipated player return to the field after a long layoff.

1. Kyle Trask, quarterback, Florida Gators

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: -134

Trask is now the clear frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy following another impressive performance, as Florida Gators defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 34-10.

Trask was instrumental in the Gatos’ 24 point win, as he once again finished the game with three touchdown passes but more importantly, his passing game was on point. He finished the game with a completion percentage of 77.8% (his second-best for the season) as he completed 21 passes from 27 attempts generating a passer rating of 194.1.

2. Mac Jones, quarterback, Alabama Crimson Tide

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +185

Jones keeps on knocking on the door to become the Heisman Trophy favorite throughout this season as he has spent most of the season in second place, but this week he’s narrowed the gap between him and Trask.

Alabama Crimson Tide remain undefeated this season and Jones is a big part of why they are 8-0. Jones once again showed why his services are reliable as he threw five touchdown passes as the Crimson Tide defeated Auburn Tigers 42-13, to make his tally to 23 touchdowns for the season.

Jones also amassed 302 passing yards in his side’s 29-point win, with his longest pass generating 66 yards, while he also managed to get a passer rating of 230.3.

3. Justin Fields, quarterback, Ohio State Buckeyes

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +925

Fields might just be the unluckiest player in the Heisman Trophy as yet again his Ohio State Buckeyes did not play on the weekend due to their game against Illinois Fighting Illini College being canceled.

This is the second time his Buckeyes has not played due to a canceled game, and while Fields has been impressive in most of his four games amassing 13 touchdown passes and 1,208 yards as the Buckeyes remain undefeated, a lack of game time may hurt his chances.

4. Trevor Lawrence, quarterback, Clemson Tigers

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +1000

After almost not playing for a month, Lawrence finally returned for the Clemson Tigers and he helped his side defeat the Pittsburgh Panthers 52-17.

In his much-anticipated return, Lawrence did not show any signs of slowing down and continued where he left off as he threw two touchdown passes in his side’s 35-point win.

What was more impressive though, was that he threw 403 yards and went at a completion percentage of 70.3 %. In his return game, he also generated a passer rating of 179.6.

5. Zach Wilson, quarterback, BYU Cougars

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +2375

Wilson remains in the Heisman Trophy race. He remains fifth for the third consecutive week and is now in the conversation although his value of +2375 suggests he is still a way off.

It didn’t help his cause that the Cougars had last weekend off however, the Cougars are scheduled to play Coastal Carolina on December 6.

While Wilson couldn’t capitalize on his impressive four-touchdown performance against the North Alabama Lions last week, he has earned his spot as he has 26 touchdown passes this season and has thrown 2,724 yards to his name.

If you could sum up Fraser it would be sports mad or even sports lover as he always thinks about sport 24/7 and always has it on in the background. He particularly loves the NFL, MLB and the MLS but is happy to watch, listen and read anything else related about sports. No matter what the sport is, Fraser covers it from an in depth perspective.
