Heisman Trophy Odds: The Top 5 Contenders, Week 13

Heisman Trophy Odds: The Top 5 Contenders, Week 13
Fri 27th November 2020

Week 12 of the college football season saw a new leader cementing his spot as the favorite for the Heisman Trophy as the race is starting to heat up.

1. Kyle Trask, quarterback, Florida Gators

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: -147

Trask has just got better and better, as he is the favorite for the Heisman Trophy for the second consecutive week. He backed up his six touchdown passes from last week to throw three touchdowns in the Florida Gators’ 38-17 win over Vanderbilt Commodores, as well as having a completion percentage of 74.3 % (his second-best this season) as he completed 26 passes from 35 attempts.

To give you another indication of why he is now the frontrunner for the award, he has now got 31 touchdown passes to his name as well as gaining a passer rating of 194.5 for his performance over the Commodores.

2. Mac Jones, quarterback, Alabama Crimson Tide

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +300

Jones’ first year as the Crimson Tide starting quarterback has gone pretty well and he has always been the second favorite for the Heisman Trophy, which just shows how reliable Jones can be.

Overall Jones has thrown 2,426 yards (ranked sixth in the NCAAF) and has thrown 18 touchdown passes so far this season (ranked 10th in the NCAAF).

On the weekend, he was again pivotal in his sides 60 point win over the Kentucky Wildcats, as he threw two touchdown passes as well as having a completion percentage of 66.7 % as he completed 16 passes from 24 attempts, despite this, he still gained a passer rating of 166.3.

3. Justin Fields, quarterback, Ohio State Buckeyes

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +325

Fields is not that far from second spot as he has slipped down the rankings the past few weeks due to stronger opposition. Fields played just his fourth game for the season, as the Buckeyes were back in action after their canceled game with Maryland, as they defeated the Indiana Hoosiers last Sunday (November 22) 42-35.

Although Fields arguably didn’t have the best of games so far this season as he got sacked five times and threw three interceptions, he was still pivotal in the sides seven-point win as he threw two touchdown passes and threw 300 yards, and is one of the main reason why the Buckeyes haven’t lost a game so far this season.

4. Trevor Lawrence, quarterback, Clemson Tigers

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +1300

While the Clemson Tigers clash with Florida State got postponed last week it has now meant that Lawrence has not played football since he helped the Tigers win over the Syracuse Orange on October 25.

However, despite not playing for three weeks he is still in the race because of the start that he had. He has bagged 17 touchdown passes this season (equal 12th in the NCAAF) and has thrown a total of 1,833 yards this season.

5. Zach Wilson, quarterback, BYU Cougars

Odds to win Heisman Trophy: +2060

After a solid showing North Alabama Lions it has meant Wilson has cemented his spot for the fifth favorite for the Heisman Trophy for the second consecutive week. Wilson backed up his performance against the Boise State Broncos where he threw three touchdown passes to throw four touchdown passes against the Lions as he helped the Cougars win 66-14.

With his four touchdown passes it has meant that Wilson has thrown four touchdown passes three times in his last five games (the other two games he threw three touchdown passes) and what is even more impressive is that in every game that he has played in he has thrown at least two or more touchdown passes.

If you could sum up Fraser it would be sports mad or even sports lover as he always thinks about sport 24/7 and always has it on in the background. He particularly loves the NFL, MLB and the MLS but is happy to watch, listen and read anything else related about sports. No matter what the sport is, Fraser covers it from an in depth perspective.
