The No. 5 seed San Diego State Aztecs (30-6, 18-3 MWC) face the No. 6 seed Creighton Bluejays (24-12, 15-7 Big East) Sunday at KFC Yum! Center in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. Creighton beat the Princeton Tigers 86-75 at KFC Yum! Center on Friday in the Sweet 16, their third consecutive win.
Ryan Kalkbrenner was the top scorer with 22 points. Baylor Scheierman was another standout performer with 21 points and nine rebounds. San Diego State won their seventh in a row in the Sweet 16 on Friday at KFC Yum! Center, beating the Alabama Crimson Tide 71-64. Darrion Trammell had 21 points to lead the team.
The teams did not meet during the regular season. They last met in the NCAA Tournament First Round when the Bluejays eliminated the Aztecs with a 72-69 overtime victory at Dickies Arena in March 2022. Trey Alexander led the Bluejays with 18 points, while Kalkbrenner played a key role with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Chad Baker had 17 points in the loss.
Kalkbrenner (14.6 ppg), Alexander (13.7), and Scheierman (12.8) are leading the Bluejays in scoring this season. Scheierman also has grabbed 8.3 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Ryan Nembhard is dishing 4.9 assists per game. Matt Bradley has supplied much of the Aztecs’ offense, averaging 12.8 points per game.
