The No. 4 seed UConn Huskies (30-8, 14-8 Big East) face the No. 5 seed San Diego State Aztecs (32-6, 18-3 MWC) Monday at NRG Stadium in the NCAA Tournament National Championship.
San Diego State narrowly defeated the Florida Atlantic Owls 72-71 at NRG Stadium on Saturday in the Final Four, their ninth consecutive win. With 21 points and six rebounds, Matt Bradley led the way.
UConn won their fifth in a row in the Final Four on Saturday at NRG Stadium, beating the Miami (FL) Hurricanes 72-59. Adama Sanogo had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the team.
The Huskies triumphed in the last meeting between the teams 74-67 at Honda Center in March 2011. Bradley is averaging 12.7 points per game to lead the Aztecs in scoring this season. Meanwhile, Nathan Mensah is grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game, and Lamont Butler is dishing 3.3 assists.
Sanogo (17.2 ppg) and Jordan Hawkins (15.3) have supplied much of the Huskies’ offense. Sanogo also has posted 7.6 rebounds per game. Tristen Newton has doled out 4.7 assists per game.
The Huskies rank as the NCAA’s eighth-best team in offensive efficiency, while the Aztecs are 24th in defensive efficiency. In the last 10 games, San Diego State is 9-1 with an average margin of +7.2 (65.5-58.3).
For the season, the Aztecs are averaging 71.5 points per game, compared to 63.1 for opponents. UConn has also a 9-1 record over the last 10, scoring 79.4 points per game on average while allowing 63.6 (+15.8 margin).
