The No. 12 Xavier Musketeers (14-3, 6-0 Big East) welcome the No. 25 Marquette Golden Eagles (14-4, 6-1 Big East) Sunday in a game that could see a lot of points.
Marquette beat the UConn Huskies 82-76 at Fiserv Forum on Wednesday, their fifth win in a row. Oso Ighodaro was the scoring leader with 19 points.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper chipped in with 17 points. The Golden Eagles are third in the Big East Conference. Xavier won their 10th in a row in a close one on Wednesday at Cintas Center, beating the Creighton Bluejays 90-87.
Souley Boum had 26 points and eight assists to lead the team. The Musketeers are first in the Big East Conference. This marks the only meeting of the season between the teams. Marquette and Xavier split their matchups last season, each team winning one.
The Golden Eagles earned the win in the last meeting 75-64 at Fiserv Forum in January 2022. Justin Lewis led the Golden Eagles with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Paul Scruggs had 13 points in the loss.Kam Jones and Prosper, averaging 16.1 and 14.7 points per game, respectively, have led the Golden Eagles in scoring this season.
Meanwhile, Tyler Kolek is dishing 7.9 assists per game, third-most in the nation, and Ighodaro is grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game. Boum’s 17.7 points per game have powered the Musketeers on offense. Zach Freemantle is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game, and Colby Jones is doling out 5.2 assists.
