The No. 16 Xavier Musketeers (19-7, 11-4 Big East), one of the nation’s top scoring teams, welcome the DePaul Blue Demons (9-17, 3-12 Big East) on Saturday.
DePaul was beaten by the St. John’s Red Storm 92-83 in double overtime at Wintrust Arena on Tuesday, their seventh loss in a row. Javan Johnson led the way in defeat with 26 points and five assists.
The Blue Demons remain 10th in the Big East Conference. Xavier lost a close one on Wednesday at Fiserv Forum, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles 69-68. Souley Boum scored 24 to top the scoresheet in defeat. With 13 points and eight rebounds, Colby Jones also impressed. The Musketeers remain second in the Big East Conference.
The teams are meeting for the last time this season. DePaul will be seeking a season sweep against Xavier after coming out on top in the only previous matchup 73-72 at Wintrust Arena on January 18. Umoja Gibson led the Blue Demons with 22 points.
Zach Freemantle had 18 points in the losing effort. Gibson and Johnson, averaging 16.2 and 15.0 points per game, respectively, are leading the Blue Demons in scoring this season. Gibson also has dished 4.8 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Eral Penn is grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game.Boum (16.4 ppg), Jack Nunge (14.5), and Jones (14.4) have powered the Musketeers’ offense. Nunge also has pulled down 7.8 rebounds per game, while Boum has tallied 4.8 assists per game.
The Musketeers are one of the most explosive offenses in the country, ranking eighth with 82.6 points per game. In the last 10 games, DePaul is 2-8 with an average margin of -7.3 (71.2-78.5). Xavier has gone 6-4 over the last 10, scoring 80.2 points per game on average while holding opponents to 77.3 (+2.9 margin).
