It figures to be a low-scoring affair when the No. 20 TCU Horned Frogs (9-1) head to face the Utah Runnin’ Utes (9-3, 2-0 Pac-12) on Wednesday. TCU dismantled the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 88-43 at Ed & Rae Schollmaier Arena on Sunday, their seventh consecutive win.
With 15 points, Mike Miles Jr. was the scoring leader. Damion Baugh added 12 points. Utah lost on Saturday at Marriott Center, falling to the BYU Cougars 75-66. Branden Carlson had 18 points in the losing effort, carrying the team.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season. TCU won the only matchup between the teams last season 76-62 at Dickies Arena in December 2021. Miles Jr. led the Horned Frogs with 28 points and eight rebounds. Carlson had 16 points, nine rebounds, and six blocks in the losing effort.
The Horned Frogs have been led this season by Miles Jr., who is averaging 12.4 points per game. Meanwhile, Eddie Lampkin Jr. is grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game, and Shahada Wells is dishing 3.6 assists.
Carlson (15.4 ppg) has supplied much of the Runnin’ Utes’ offense. Carlson also has pulled down 7.3 rebounds per game. Rollie Worster has distributed 5.3 assists per game.
The Horned Frogs and the Runnin’ Utes are two of the strongest defenses in the NCAA, ranking 11th and 20th in defensive efficiency, respectively.
