No. 4 Arizona Wildcats (6-0) head to face the Utah Runnin’ Utes (5-2) on Thursday to open Pac-12 Conference play. Arizona edged past the Creighton Bluejays 81-79 at Lahaina Civic Center on November 23, their sixth win in a row. Oumar Ballo was a top performer with 30 points and 13 rebounds.
Utah won in dominating fashion on Saturday at Jon M. Huntsman Center, beating the St. Thomas (MN) Tommies 95-66. Marco Anthony had 15 points to lead the team. The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Arizona won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 97-77 triumph at Jon M. Huntsman Center on February 24.
Azuolas Tubelis led the Wildcats with 23 points, while Kerr Kriisa had a triple double with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Gabe Madsen had 15 points in defeat. Tubelis and Ballo, averaging 19.3 and 19.0 points per game, respectively, are leading the Wildcats in scoring this season.
Ballo also has grabbed 10.0 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Kriisa is dishing 7.5 assists per game. Branden Carlson (13.1 ppg) and Madsen (13.0) have been the primary providers of the Runnin’ Utes’ offense.
Carlson also has collected 7.7 rebounds per game. Rollie Worster has recorded 4.0 assists per game. The Wildcats rank sixth in the country in offensive efficiency, while the Runnin’ Utes are 26th in defensive efficiency.
