The No. 7 Creighton Bluejays (6-1) and their powerful offense head to face the No. 2 Texas Longhorns (5-0) and their exceptional defense on Thursday. Creighton was edged out by the Arizona Wildcats 81-79 at Lahaina Civic Center on November 23. With 20 points, Ryan Nembhard was the top scorer in the losing effort.
Ryan Kalkbrenner chipped in with 16 points. Texas won their fifth in a row in dominant fashion on Saturday at Gregory Gym, beating the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros 91-54. Sir’Jabari Rice had 19 points to lead the team.
The Bluejays have been led this season by Kalkbrenner, who is averaging 16.1 points per game. Meanwhile, Baylor Scheierman is grabbing 9.3 rebounds per game, and Nembhard is dishing 5.7 assists. Tyrese Hunter and Marcus Carr have supplied much of the Longhorns’ offense, averaging 16.2 and 14.8 points per game, respectively.
Carr also has distributed 3.8 assists per game. Dillon Mitchell has pulled down 6.8 rebounds per game.The Longhorns are fourth in defensive efficiency in the NCAA, while the Bluejays rank eighth in offensive efficiency.
