The No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers (13-2, 3-0 SEC), one of the NCAA’s top scoring defenses, host the Vanderbilt Commodores (8-7, 1-1 SEC) on Tuesday. Vanderbilt was narrowly defeated by the Missouri Tigers 85-82 at Mizzou Arena on Saturday, their third loss in a row away from home.
With 16 points and seven rebounds, Liam Robbins led the way in the loss. The Commodores dropped to seventh in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee won their fourth in a row in impressive fashion on Saturday at Colonial Life Arena, beating the South Carolina Gamecocks 85-42.
Olivier Nkamhoua had 21 points and 10 rebounds, leading the team. The Volunteers fell to second in the Southeastern Conference. The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Tennessee won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 73-64 triumph at Thompson-Boling Arena in February 2022, their 10th straight head-to-head victory.
Zakai Zeigler led the Volunteers with 16 points. Scotty Pippen Jr. had 23 points and six assists in the losing effort. Robbins is averaging 12.9 points per game to lead the Commodores in scoring this season. Robbins also has grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Ezra Manjon is dishing 3.3 assists.Nkamhoua (12.0 ppg), Santiago Vescovi (11.1), and Zeigler (10.2) have supplied much of the Volunteers’ offense. Zeigler also has distributed 4.1 assists per game. Meanwhile, Julian Phillips has averaged 5.4 rebounds per game.
The Volunteers are one of the best scoring defenses in the NCAA, ranking second with 52.5 points per game allowed. The Volunteers have had success in recent matchups between the teams at Thompson-Boling Arena, winning seven of the last 10.
