The McNeese State Cowboys (2-4) will try to break down one of the nation’s top scoring defenses when they head to face the No. 13 Tennessee Volunteers (5-1) on Wednesday. McNeese State was dominated by the Baylor Bears 89-60 at Ferrell Center on Wednesday. Johnathan Massie led the way in defeat with 12 points.
Tennessee won their fourth in a row on Friday at Imperial Arena at Atlantis Resort, beating the Kansas Jayhawks 64-50. Santiago Vescovi scored 20 to lead the team in scoring. With 5 points and nine rebounds, Jonas Aidoo also produced a strong performance.
The Cowboys have been led this season by Christian Shumate and Massie, who are averaging 12.2 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Shumate also has grabbed 10.5 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Trae English is dishing 3.3 assists per game.
Vescovi (11.3 ppg), Tyreke Key (10.8), and Julian Phillips (10.7) have powered the Volunteers’ offense. Phillips also has posted 5.3 rebounds per game, while Vescovi has distributed 3.5 assists per game. The Volunteers are one of the top scoring defenses in the NCAA, ranking 14th with 55.3 points per game allowed.
