The No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers (16-3, 6-1 SEC), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, welcome the Georgia Bulldogs (13-6, 3-3 SEC) on Wednesday. Georgia was narrowly defeated by the Vanderbilt Commodores 85-82 at Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday. Jabri Abdur-Rahim was the standout player in the loss with 21 points.
The Bulldogs slipped to seventh in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee won in dominating fashion on Saturday at Pete Maravich Assembly Center, beating the LSU Tigers 77-56.
Josiah-Jordan James had 22 points and seven rebounds, leading the team. The Volunteers fell to third in the Southeastern Conference. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams.
Tennessee got the win in the only matchup between the teams last season 75-68 at Stegeman Coliseum in March 2022. James led the Volunteers with 23 points and eight rebounds. Aaron Cook had 17 points in the losing effort.
Terry Roberts is averaging 15.1 points per game to lead the Bulldogs in scoring this season. Roberts also has dished 4.0 assists per game. Meanwhile, Braelen Bridges is grabbing 4.6 rebounds.
Zakai Zeigler (10.6 ppg), Santiago Vescovi (10.5), and Olivier Nkamhoua (10.4) have supplied much of the Volunteers’ offense. Zeigler also has tallied 4.8 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Julian Phillips has averaged 5.5 rebounds per game. Holding opponents to 54.4 points per game, the Volunteers are one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the NCAA (2nd).Georgia is 6-4 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +2.6 (72.8-70.2).
