The No. 2 Tennessee Volunteers (18-4, 7-2 SEC), one of the NCAA’s top scoring defenses, welcome the No. 25 Auburn Tigers (17-5, 7-2 SEC) on Saturday. Auburn blew out the Georgia Bulldogs 94-73 at Neville Arena on Wednesday. Allen Flanigan was the top scorer with 22 points.
Johni Broome chipped in with 19 points and 18 rebounds. The Tigers remain third in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee came up short on Wednesday at Stephen C. O’Connell Center, falling to the Florida Gators 67-54. Zakai Zeigler led the team in scoring in defeat with 15 points.
The Volunteers remain second in the Southeastern Conference. The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Tennessee earned the win in the only matchup between the teams last season 67-62 at Thompson-Boling Arena in February 2022. Jabari Smith led all players in scoring with 27 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Santiago Vescovi had 14 points for the Volunteers.
Wendell Green Jr. and Broome, averaging 13.8 and 13.0 points per game, respectively, are leading the Tigers in scoring this season. Broome also has grabbed 8.5 rebounds per game, while Green Jr. has dished 4.4 assists per game.
Zeigler (11.4 ppg), Olivier Nkamhoua (11.0), and Vescovi (10.5) have powered the Volunteers’ offense. Nkamhoua also has collected 5.3 rebounds per game, while Zeigler has tallied 5.0 assists per game. The Volunteers are holding opponents to 55.1 points per game, ranking as one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the nation (3rd).
